1. Nonsense!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.11)
I would love to learn what the Passport Agency planned to list as this child's birthplace ....
2. Yes it is.
James K. ,   Leesville, LA, USA   (05.02.11)
Jerusalem was and is part/capital of Israel more so that the capitals of other nations. When pagans were dancing around in the woods of what is now London, Kings were in Jerusalem, Israel. When native Americans were hunting in what is now Washington D.C. There was Jerusalem, Israel. The Bible is full of scriptures talking about Jerusalem, and not from some modern Muslim point of view. But now all of a sudden in modern times, it's now a controversy.
3. wtf??!!
david ,   uk   (05.02.11)
4. @1 not nonsense its the US policy...really....
American Isaeli ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.11)
This has been going on since 1948. Yep, if one is born anywhere other than Jerusalem then he/she is born in Israel, but if one is born in Jerusalem one is born in "Jerusalem, Jerusalem" All of my children were born in Jerusalem and all of them have US birth certificates for Americans born abroad that list their place of birth as "Jerusalem, Jerusalem" and all of their USA passports list their country of birth as "Jerusalem" It will be interesting to see how the US Supreme Court decides this point of law and whether or not they will cause force a change in the current policy. It will be interesting because the Supreme Court is actually looking at part f the checks and balances of the US Constitution and not at Foreign Policy.

7. Well, duh.
Chatich   (05.02.11)
Yerushalayim is not only part of Israel, it is the heart of Israel, forever, undivided, the soul of the Jewish Nation, Medinat Israel. Just as 0bama belted out to a room full of Jews, at an AIPAC meeting during his first presidential campaign, and I quote; "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided".
8. Does the pope wear a yarmulkah? Is Mecca Muslim? Is Vatican

12. is washington part of usa?

????????????????
13. So if not then what country?
Sean Green ,   Pasadena, USA   (05.02.11)
Palestine is not yet a state.
14. Jerusalem
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (05.02.11)
According to international law established after World War II, Jerusalem was designated by the UN as an International City. Not only is it not the capital of Israel, the Zionist government is illegally in that city, which properly should be governed by a UN agency. Not that the entire Zionist state is legal in the first place, but while it wtill exists de facto, its proper capital is Tel Aviv.
15. IT IS A LEGAL POINT
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.02.11)
So really politics has nothing to do with it. What will decide the issue is the Constitution. How the Supreme court interprets the separation of powers. That's all it is, so don't make a political issue out of it.
16. Is US part of India?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.02.11)
Chr.Colombus landed there while looking for India.
17. @1 & @11 please re-read last paragraph of my comments & #15
#4 ,   Israel   (05.02.11)
it isn't about you and your tax dollar and it surely isn't about anybody possessing anything it is about the United States Constitution and how it is interpreted by the Supreme Court of the United States. (Also, just for the record it isn't about you and/or your opinion either)
18. what about congress
zionist forever   (05.02.11)
During the Clinton era Congress decided that the US embassy should be moved from Tel Aviv - Jerusalem. Clinton, Bush and Obama have all made use of some kind of some kind of get out clause to avoid having to do it because of the so called peace process. The president may have made excuses not to move the embassy but Congress has said it should be moved which effectively means the US recognizes at least part of Jerusalem as being Israeli territory or else they would not legally be allowed to move their Israeli embassy to Jerusalem. UN resolution 242 considered Judea & Samaria, Gaza, the Golan, Sinai and east Jerusalem. Even the UN only decided that west Jerusalem was not occupied territory. If east Jerusalem is occupied Jordanian territory today because it was captured from Jordan in 1967 what about the west? Jordan had control of the east between 1949 - 967 when the city was officially divided. If the west was occupied territory prior to 1967 then the east must also have been occupied territory. So if all of Jordan is occupied who does it belong to? Its disgusting that despite the fact that even the UN considers west Jerusalem as being israeli territory the US does not.
19. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.02.11)
To all those commentors who still deny the facts, Israel is a legitimate nation and member of the UN. It was attacked by Arabs nations upon declaration of statehood in 1948 and survived with the western part of Jerusalem in its control. When attacked by Jordan in 1967, it captured the remainder of Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been since 1948 and is today our nation's capital. No other country has ever declared it to be their capital either before 1948 or since.
20. #14
Intedi Nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (05.02.11)
The "Zionist state" as you put it, does de facto hold control of Jerusalem. They don't need anyones permission to have it as a capital.
21. Is Alaska part of USA?
JakeB   (05.02.11)
Is Sara Palin Russian? Dumbasses @ USA
22. It is NOT about Jerusalem, Israel....
Elisheva ,   Israel   (05.02.11)
it is about a point of law related to the balance of power of the three branches of government in the United States! Why is it that over 50% of these TBs miss this point?
23. I would be rather proud
2Mad ,   צרפת   (05.02.11)
...having my birthplace listed as "Jerusalem". I would require to add "Solomon's kingdom", give or take few years. After all, US&A border is 8000 miles deep, Nairobi belonging under Honolulu county...
24. zionist
IlanaB   (05.03.11)
to me that is a lovely word. I am a proud zionist. I live in a zionist country. Every time you use this word to insult, remember that it is a big compliment. Now let me see if my daughter can also have Israel written on her passport unstead of just Jerusalem!
25. Is Texas in the U.S.A.
Zev ,   Israel   (05.02.11)
When the U.S. gives Texas back to Mexico we can talk about Jerusalem.
26. #14, actually no
Danny   (05.03.11)
That was part of the General Assembly partition plan the Arabs rejected. Has no force whatsoever. Buy a history book.
27. It never stopped me!
Miriam ,   Seattle, Washington   (05.03.11)
Knowing full well that I would be edited, I listed the birth place of my 8 Israeli-born children as Jerusalem, ISRAEL....and, knowing from experience (when a 17 year old married Arab girl - who spoke no English - asked me to help her fill out her request for her husband to become a US citizen), that there are those who were writing "Jerusalem, West Bank". Truth need not be hidden, because in the end, it will stand!
28. Contextualizing
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.03.11)
It would be of great help if every time Ynet speaks about a place,a site,a personality in Israel,it contextualized that. For example, tell readers what happened when King David bought Yerushalaim from Jebusites... Tell us about Malki Tzedek... Tell us what Midrash says about the place where Jacob had the dream with the angels going up and comming down... Contextualize, telling our history either in exoteric and esoteric terms, since we have this all in our Torah. It will be nice and instructive.
29. Let's ask the original founder of the city
Israeli 2   (05.03.11)

30. yes and we need america to told us our birthplace now..
