Friedman's arguments would carry more weight if he didn't have the stain on his record of comparing Israel to Haffez Assad of Syria. His infamous column where he accused Israel of using "Hama Rules" showed us that he lost all sense of proportionality in looking at the Middle East. Friedman accused Israel of behaving like Syria, where Assad sent in the troops and killed upwards of 20000 people in the city of Hama, and then bulldozed flat the neighborhoods that were destroyed. There were no repercussion in Hama, of course, because the world didn't (and still doesn't) care when Arab dictators butcher their own people. Friedman says we're the same. I disagree and I accuse Friedman of not only getting it wrong, but being so wrapped up in political correctness that he can't even see a path to take it back and apologize. Friedman got it wrong, and shows us that he continues to get it wrong.
