1. Contrarily
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (05.26.11)
Using Falk's faulty logic if the Israeli's had only lain down their arms then a century of bloodshed could have been avoided. Yes Falk the world is rapidly changing, you are correct, but you and your ilk are like a boulder in the path of flood waters: inert but movable in the face of the unrelenting wave of history
2. commentary
peter ,   a'dam NL   (05.26.11)
1) Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people for over 3,000 years... Spiritual capital, physical capital but not state capital. ' Rights' are relative, for jebusites, canaanites, jews, christians and arabs. 2) The 1967 borders, referred to by Obama and others, are in essence the 1949 armistice borders drawn after Israel’s victorious 1948 War of Independence. Armistice lines, not borders. 3) Although there was never a sovereign Palestinian state at any point in the history of mankind, Israel accepted the UN’s 1947 partition plan. The Arabs did not, and instead reciprocated with war, and another war, and then a couple of more wars, simultaneously combined with more than 70 years of terror against innocent civilians. Therefore, aside from its biblical and historical rights, Israel has more than 25,000 reasons, one for each slain soldier and terror victim, to refuse the return to 1967 borders. "... biblical and historical rights..." are there, but weren't essential in Hertzl's plan for a jewish state. 4) Peace could have prevailed at any point during the century-long conflict between Israel and its Arab enemies had the Arabs only agreed to put down their arms. In contrast, if Israel would put down its arms it would cease to exist. "...put down their arms..." would mean that conflict would have to be decided with economical and legal tools. The 'fellahin' haven't considered this a viable option, apparently. 5) ...Israel is the only true democracy in the Mideast and therefore, as Prime Minister Netanyahu pointed out in his 2011 AIPAC speech, it's time to recognize this basic truth: Israel is not what's wrong about the Middle East. Israel is what's right about the Middle East. That's sidestepping the issue by using rhetoric. Bibi's speech was full of this kind of self rightiousness without adressing the real issues of negatiations.
3. the problem with the zionists ...
Simon ,   Jerusalem, Palestine   (05.26.11)
is that they are trying there best to convince the world that palestinians are a fake, but what you are forgetting is that the palestinians have been here for hundreds and thousands of years , and neither you nor anyone can deny them this fact , can you tell the americans, canadians that they dont belong to the land they live in because they have been there for less than 500 or a thousand years ?

6. Give it up already
Barka   (05.26.11)
Continuity of residence is what matters, and you did not go from a small demographic minority to a majority without ethnic cleansing, violence, war on any territory, not even in the Holy Land. It's a blood and soil project which displaced and subjected the former Arab majority, a crime that continues to this day, and it stinks to high heaven.
7. Facts & Truths Change
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (05.26.11)
There was never an America before 1492. There was no USA before 1776, or even after for real for some time. The DDR didn't exist in 1944. There was no USSR in 1916. Times change. Jerusalem was founded by Canaanites and conquered before it became a Jewish City. It was a Christian city during the First Crusade. Then it became a Muslim city when Saladin came along and kicked the crusaders out. Rome was founded by Trojan descendants. And the Lebanese built Carthage. Who built Jericho the first time?

The only truth that the islamic american president can say is that he ia ANTI-ISRAEL and AN OUTRIGHT ANTI-SEMITE/
14. One More Truth:
HaifaGuy   (05.26.11)
Israel will always prevail in all military conflicts imposed on us for one simple reason: we cannot afford to lose. We as a nation have only one take and we have and will keep winning until this morbid dream of annihilating us will finally evaporate from the hearts and minds of our enemies. If it takes a thousand years - let it be so. We will grow and rise and develop and thrive just like we have until now. The keyword is ---- Notwithstanding. WE SHALL OVERCOME !!!
15. Thank you for the truth!!!

16. Response to Barka
Joshua ,   Israel   (05.26.11)
The Bible (as well as the Koran) record that God gave this territory to the children of Abraham, Issac, & Jacob after their escape from Egypt. The Bible, as well as archaeology records that the Jews lived in this land for close to a thousand years where they built a holy temple. The Bible says that the Jews were exiled from this land because of their sins and that they would return after the tribulations of exile. This is all in the Bible and it's accuracy is stunning. The Jews have never ever stopped trying to return to their ancestral homeland; throughout history Synagogues were built so as to face the Holy Land and prayer books contained passage after passage about returning to the Promised Land. The Arabs have no similar claim or justification for their presence to this land other than the fact that they squatted in the wrong place. If you have a problem with this than I suggest that you have a problem with the will of God. He is the one who put us here. If the Arabs were to actually read and obey the teachings of the Bible and the Koran they would realize that they are lying to themselves and to the world and they are killing people because of their lies.

18. Is There An Honest Liar???
Edward ,   Savannah, USA   (05.26.11)
Obamafraud's definition of "truth" is anything that makes him look better and supports the muslim viewpoint, like his false claim that Islam had a major part to play in America's founding!!! You could go through THOUSANDS of documents, letters, legal briefs, etc. and not find ONE WORD about Islam and the founding of America. The ONLY place you could find that would be a report Jefferson and Adams did explaining that the reason WHY our ships were attacked and sailors enslaved in the Mediterainean Sea was because of the ISLAMIC Barbary pirates!!! And we ALL know what Jefferson did about THAT!!! America was forced to pay about 20% of it's resources as a "bribe" to keep our ships from being attacked and as soon as Jefferson became President, he sent about 5 American warshps and a boatload of Marines to burn the place down!!! Too bad we don't have leaders today with the same backbone and wits!!! But I digress. Is there such a thing as an "honest" liar!!!??? Deal with BHO at your own RISKS!!!
19. Who is fooling whom?
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (05.26.11)
You want facts? Here's a fact..... "The United States believes that through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state, based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements.” That’s not Obama, Bush or Rice, but a statement jointly issued by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Nov. 11, 2010.
20. Boooooooooooring.
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (05.26.11)
Points 1-4 are indisputably correct but none of them are relevant. What IS relevant are the facts on the ground. Anyone who thinks we will be able to keep occupying/controlling a different nation indefinitely is living on another planet.
21. What Arabs and Palestinians have in common
Moshe ,   Netanya   (05.26.11)
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. In 1980s Arabs from Judea toldm me that they want go back to Saudi Arabia but Saudis would not take them. Since Roman times Jews were called "Palestinians' and Jews were called "Palestinians" in Russia and Estern Europe for ages. Brits called Jews "Palestinians" as well. When French and Brits divided what they call "Palestine" in 1922, they gave Northern "palestine" to Arabs. For Eastern Palestine they even brought a king from Arabia (new kingdom was named after a family name Hashemite). You understand that families do not run the land for ever. Even the big family "Saudis" will go. It has nothing to do with Israel.
22. #1 amazingly stupid comment
Ilan ,   Ariel   (05.26.11)
Falk places the most of the blame for the conflicts (1948, 1956, 1967) on the Arabs who rejected a non-violent resolution of the conflict and opted with violence. It isn't logic but a historical observation. You may disagree with his interpretation of the facts, putting up the opposite (Israel putting down their arms) as an equally viable choice is pure drivel. The opposite of historical fact is simply a lie. You are better off examining the rocks in your head than worrying about a metaphor that is in any case nonsensical ( look both ways before crossing the street, there might be a wave of history coming in).
23. Obama misstates. There's no "Golden Rule" in Islam.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (05.26.11)
Obama claims "there is one rule that lies at the heart of every religion - that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us." That's the Christian variant of Hillel's "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor." But beyond statements about how one Muslim is to treat another "believer", there's no such sentiment in Islam. To the contrary, they're directed to be harsh toward the "non-believer", even to smite them.
24. Accurate Language: '48 LINES
Dallas ,   Canada   (05.26.11)
Arbitrary lines only, not borders in any way. Please use this term in all conversations, since "borders" implies an agreed division between recognized nations.
25. #3 Simon Anyone Can Lie
Dallas ,   Canada   (05.26.11)
And you are just repeating it. The Arab invasions were in the 600's. Next we'll hear the Arafat line that Jesus was a Palestinian. And you ignore the intent of the PA/Fatah/Hamas charters, just look at their maps, their culture of hatred against Jews, their abuse of the land when the Arabs occupied it in 47-48, and their refusal to actually sit down and talk. Not to mention their intent to become a truly apartheid radical state. I don't think that even you want a Gaza-like experience on larger orders of magnitude. BTW, what is "Jerusalem, Palestine" anyway? That is magical thinking. Wars redefine borders, so deal with it, unless you think you can reestablish the Turkish empire... and also hope to roll back all the wars of history. Face reality. No one can roll back a clock.
26. Nonsense. Totally untrue
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (05.26.11)
As a person who used to be a Christian, Jewish and finally Muslim I beg to disagree. Muslims like myself consider Al Qudz-Jerusalem to be a 3rd holiest place on Earth for Islam for a reason. Muhammed PBUH went to heaven with his horse Barak straight to heaven and it happened in Al Qudz. Can you argue with 1.5 Billion Muslims? No chance.
27. Well written!!!
Sharon ,   Israel   (05.26.11)
28. #3 Learn some basic history and math
Menachem ,   Israel   (05.26.11)
"Palestine" is nothing else but the Roman name for occupied Judea. "Arab Palestine" is as real as the wizard from Oz.. I doubt you would support Palestinians in the 1940s since they were mostly people like Ariel Sharon, Ben-Gurion and Yadin. The Arabs on the other hand identified themselves as part of southern Syria and the wider Arab world. It was only after the 1967 war when the fake "Palestinian nation" was invented by Arab propaganda.
29. #13 Truth ??????????
Stan ,   Israel   (05.26.11)
How many untruths can you put in one simple sentence ??? 1 Obama is not a Muslim 2 Israel continues to receive 3 Billion dollars aid every year. Obama said that the USA will continue to guarantee Israel's security and will do everything possible to prevent Iran getting Nuclear power. .American policy has always been thal Jerusalem should be devided and that Israel should return to 1967 borders with slight adjustments. 3. anti semite ? Pure rubbish.
30. The current situation is totally sustainable.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (05.26.11)
The only reason the pals get so much attention is 1. they are extremely violent. 2. Arabs use oil to twist the arms of western countries. I predict that when the oil is gone or when we move on to better, cleaner technologies, the world will remember who the Arabs are and all they have done and turn their backs on the them. Then Israel will have peace and the Saudis will go back to living in tents in the desert. I dont like paying more for gas either, but it may be a blessing in disguise. As long as gas is cheap we won't get better technologies such as hydrogen cars.
