Perhaps Prime Minister Harper is signalling his view that UN Security Council Resolution 242 -- calling for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and end of Mideast belligerency -- is no longer relevant 44 years later,, and 38 years after UN Security Council Resoution 338 calls for "immediate" implementation of 242. It does seem rather late in the day for implementation of 242 to be immediate -- as far as Israel and Egypt and Jordan are concerned,, 242 has been inplemented. And, not insignificantly, Iran is a new belligerent against Israel and "Palestine" was not thought of as a Middle East state, under 242.

He is likely the finest prime minister we've ever had. He takes principled positions on all topics. He comes from Calgary where there is a very small Jewish community. The population of the province of Alberta have been consistently supporting the Conservatives. To the Jews of Toronto who are patting themselves on the back for electing Harper------where have you been for the past 4 elections when we the Jews of Alberta have been telling you that Harper is the real thing! Not getting a seat at the UNSC because of support of Israel? I see that as a badge of honour. To the commentator that said that Harper's support of Israel didn't factor into the election? Uhhh, think again. Conservatives won in ridings where Jewish votes do count. There are many, likely most, Canadians who support Israel and admire Harpers unambiguous stand supporting Israel. He accomplished his majority victory even after the UNSC fiasco. We stand with Harper and Harper stands with Israel.

In the last book of the New Testament, the names of the twelve tribes of Israel are written on the gates of the New Jerusalem. This shows how important Jews are in even the Christian Bible. However, there are those who would reinterpret the twelve tribes to mean something else, but to me it is clear that it means the Jewish people. I don't wish to get into a theological debate because that is not my purpose for posting on these talkbacks. I will always support Israel as the Jewish State, not a Christian one or a Muslim one. Both of these have done more damage throughout history than any Jewish state could have done.
