31. #29 Chaim - What claim?
Johan ,   perth - Australia   (05.30.11)
What is the legal proof you are talking about? Repeatedly I might say. You are not talking about the bible or ancient history do you?
32.  "and such an attempt is destined for failure,"
split ,   US   (05.30.11)
Israeli V-column on Capitol Hill will veto it and that's what US enemies and competitors are waiting for ,... We're broke and in red and that's all we need is to be singled out as a sole supporter for a little bully noted at the end (145) of Global Peace Index.

Marcella   (05.30.11)
I just found out about it from an INN report. I'm delighted. This is exactly the right response and I hope they receive widespread support from the population. The MKs may need some convincing, but they must eventually come around. ~~~~~~~~ There is also another campaign that should complement that of the lawyers, and which I'm sure you know about: MK Aryeh Eldad's "Jordan is Palestine". He organized a conference on this issue a few months ago and I understand he's still actively promoting it. Bringing Israel's rights under international law to the forefront, while at the same time presenting a sane alternative involving Jordan, would be the best solution. It would not ignite the area like a powder keg - as a new Arab state with Iran as an ally might do.
34. #27 Robert
Marcella   (05.30.11)
Thank you, Robert. I happened to read one of your comments a few weeks ago where you expressed in clear and strong terms how your opinion regarding the Jewish-Arab situation had drastically evolved. I'm very pleased. ~~~~~~~ I've read many talkbacks lamenting the lack of good leadership in Israel. However, National Union MK Aryeh Eldad is a perfect example of someone with high principles who could appeal to both religious and secular Jews. (If only Moshe Feiglin were to accept Eldad's invitation to join his Hatikva movement...)

Eliezer ,   Jerusalem   (05.30.11)

36. #31. Eugene Rostow admitted Judea/Samaria belong to Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.30.11)
#31 Johan. What legal claim does Israel have on Judea and Samaria? To start with, Eugene Rostow, author of U.N. Resolution 242, admitted Israel is the rightful owner of Judea and Samaria. Many acclaimed international lawyers have also proven so. See, for instance, "The Myth of Israel's Illegal Settlements" by Prof. David M. Phillips, Northeastern University School of Law. Not only do Judea and Samaria belong to Israel by reasons of more than 3,500 years of ownership and the fact we won them in a defensive war. They are legally ours. Case closed!
37. Barak's tsunami will be from HaShem not the pals
ULC ,   Israel   (05.30.11)
He has every reason to be worried
38. Bibi: Imagine this.....
Nachson ,   Israel   (05.30.11)
The people are your responsibility. The Arabs and Americans are at your back, the Mediteranean is in front of you. WHO is going to help you? Sound familiar?
39. Good opportunity to make the UN irrelevant.
Bless Israel ,   United States   (05.30.11)
Ignore them, they''ll go away. The UN has as much power as a baby with colic. The Nation of Israel has every legal right to ignore the pals and the UN if they should be crazy enough to grant the pals a nation. No one can enforce an non binding vote against an established nation to relinquish her right to exist or to protect herself. They forget, Israel won a war with Jordan and Egypt ( who later make peace with Israel ) before David Ben Gurion first declared Israel a Nation with the UN that followed later. The pals haven't won any war with Israel ever and never will. "TO THE VICTOR BELONGS THE SPOILS ". When the US gives back San Antonio and the entire western part of the US to Mexico, call me. Until then, rest easy Israel, the dogs will still howl at the gate while being outside and you, safely, inside the Promised land as promised and given by our G-d, Israel.

41. # 7 try reforming your arab nations, will ya?

they all seem to be falling apart at the seams. Defend that, okay? Our people have been free for a long time now, and yours? LOL

Marcella, wherever you are, I wish you'd be here !! You'd make a fantastic politician. You'd have my vote, you already know this!!
43. 'PALESTINE' WILL BE THE SMALLEST STATE.....
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (05.30.11)
..in the world with the smallest population. One sad person occupying one seat at the UN General Assembly in New York. So it looks like 'Palestine' will be in New York. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
44. #31, #20
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.30.11)
It is recognized that indigenous people have the rights to independence in their land. Everyone, including the Arabs, admits that the Jews are the indigenous people of Israel. As for the "Palestinians". Even they admit that most of them are recent immigrants. #20 well said and so true. It's a game and we are the pawns.
45. 15
zionist forever   (05.31.11)
Israel is officially defined as a Jewish state and was created as such. Everything about it says Jewish and nothing more. There is also no Hebrew people. All national symbols are Jewish ones. The anthem a return to zion The language is hebrew The law of return applies to Jews only There is nothing about Israel that reflects any other faith but Judaism. A Hebrew state means nothing than the idea of an Israeli state. Israel was created to be a Jewish state and so why pretend its something that its not. The arabs will also find it no easier to recognize a hebew state anymore than they can recognize jewish state. If your an arab do you see the idea of a hebrew state as being representative of your people? If the arabs are serious about peace then the least they can do is recognize Israel as a Jewish state
46. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.31.11)
Israel acquired East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria in the course of fighting a defensive war against Jordan. East Jerusalem has been incorporated into Israel proper, and the city of Jerusalem unified. Judea and Samaria are non-sovereign territory; as such, Israel's presence there is fully legal. Moreover, Israel is free to settle Judea and Samaria, and even to annex it and incorporate it into Medinat Israel, just as it did with the Golan Heights in 1982. When that happens -- and it will -- the Arab residents of Judea and Samaria will be repatriated to Jordan, country of their citizenship. You might want to go to law school before opining on international law. Of course, you'd have to finish high school and go to college first.
47. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.31.11)
You are quite right -- a one state solution, incorporating Judea and Samaria into Israel is inevitable. Of course you do realize that the one state will not include you. You and your terrorist lot are going to be repatriated to Jordan. It is, after all, the country of your citizenship. We're sending you home! Aren't you glad? Tick tock, chica; tick .... tock.
48. Guess again
imafreeagent ,   Florida   (05.31.11)
NATO can enforce any resolution passed by the UN. NATO is presently doing so under UN Resolution 1973; i.e., protecting civilian refugees against air strikes in Libya.

john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (05.31.11)
I can't believe how ignorant you are- education is what you need badly.Go to the nearest Israeli school-I'm sure that they will help you( for free) As for Int Law-that will always be beyond you. After all,you are an Arab squatter.
50. To: No. 48
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.31.11)
Mind telling me where in the United Nations charter does the U.N. have the authority to use UNIFIL troops in an aggressive action? While you're at it, mind telling me as well where in the United Nations charter does the U.N. have the authority to order non-UNIFIL troops to take aggressive action? Here's a news flash: NATO is not an arm of the United Nations; in fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with the United Nations. Don't you know anything?
51. To: No. 24
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.31.11)
Because Judaism is our unique identity, and because things haven't gone terribly well for us anywhere in the world. The world has consistently persecuted us BECAUSE we are Jews, anywhere in the world we have resided. You lose the right to tell us that we cannot identify ourselves by that for which you have always chosen to persecute us. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, there are plenty of non-Jews who are citizens of Israel, and enjoy all of the rights and privileges of citizenship although not all of the obligations. So what is your problem?
52. #15 Gregg, "Hebrew" is clear, I agree with you.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.31.11)
In contrast, "Jewish" is unclear since there is no agreement as to who is a Jew. For instance, I do not accept the Orthodox definition of a Jew by genes and think "Jewish" means culture, which encompasses history. It does not encompass religion because a Christian can also be raised in or adopt the Culture of Jews, the same as non-believers (atheists.) of whom there are many in Israel and elsewhere. But the meaning of "Hebrew" is clear because it is so practical, as you have written. If "Jew" is undefined, Israel is also undefined as a "Jewish State," but it is clearly implied to be a Hebrew State. If in September Palestinians declare themselves as a State in the U.N., they will certainly not declare themselves to be a Hebrew State. Therefore, they will officially renege the idea of one state for two people. It will be two states for two people. Later the border between those two states may become immaterial, like today between Holland and Belgium, for instance.
53. Hope for Palestine
Palestine   (05.31.11)
We lived in peace with the Arab-Jews on our land for thousands of years. We didn't want to destroy you, you were our neighbours. It was the Zionists that destroyed that relationship and stripped us of our land and identity. It was the Zionist who brought war to destroy us and replace our land in the Middle-East with European settlers. We did not ask for this war, we did not want this war and we have no way to end it. This war was forced upon us and it is something none of us deserve nor want to live in. But what can we do? We have no army, no weapons to defend ourselves and a crashed economy. We have no rights, only walls which imprison us and a Palestinian Refugee status with no Palestine or national identity. The difference is, your people are recognized, their history is recognized, their struggle is recognized and it is all publicized and documented. Ours is swept under the rug and hidden from the world because if we are the victims instead of the "terrorists", than what would that make Israel?

56. #24, You are correct, it suffices to accept Israel
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.31.11)
Those who want to drag on talking about being "Jewish" have an agenda: religion. But the State of Israel is not about the Jewish religion, it is about a modern existence like most of the other modern States in the world. Israel has people of many religions as citizens, as Israelis. It will suffice to accept Israel as a State at peace with the new Palestinian State and never talk about Jewish religion nor about Islam or Christianity. Because of the political constellation for many years in the Knesset, separation of religion and State has not happened yet. But it will come to it when the time is right. It would have come to it already if there was peace with the Arabs. It's ironic, but the Arab-Israeli conflict keeps preserving the State-religion affiliation within Israel. Can you guess why so many writers on this TB never speak of peace?
57. #53 Palestine
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.31.11)
You lived in peace with the Jews on your land? Interesting. First, it's not your land and it has never been. Second, the Islamic definition of Jews (or Christians) living in an Islamic country is that of "Dhimmis" that have no civil rights and have to pay special taxes for the permission to live.
58. to Palestine
smartone ,   israel   (05.31.11)
I guess the massacres in 1920,1921 ,1929 and 1936 were "peaceful"??? And we didn't force you out.. you left because the Arab High court in Cairo told you to. The Arab armies entered Palestine to protect the Palestinians from the Zionist tyranny but, instead, they abandoned them, forced them to emigrate and to leave their homeland, and threw them into prisons similar to the ghettos in which the Jews used to live.” — PLO spokesman Mahmud Abbas (“Abu Mazen”), Falastin a-Thaura, March 1976 Also, you treated our Holy Western Wall as a garbage dump and you treated (and still do!!) dump your garbage on our cemetery on the Mt. of Olives.. You also made it difficult for us to pray by our Holy Western Wall before the state and somehow the British allowed you to do so.. I can go on and on..
59. #13 Wissam,
Phil ,   Ireland   (05.31.11)
Your "reality" is fiction. Israel is not "transferring" its population into occupied territories. The Jewish people moving and living there are volunteering to live there. Under the British Mandate Article 6, and protected by UN Charter Article 80, Jews have a right to settle in British Mandate Palestine west of the Jordan River. It is the Arabs who are in breach of International Law by demanding Israel withdraw to 1967 lines which contravenes UNSCR 242. This requires a negotiated peace with negotiated borders.
60. #11 and the USA will stop its donations to arabs
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (05.31.11)
either directly or via UN, which will save the US a hell of a lot more than it can loose..
