The successful surprise attack on Egypt in 1967 was a true Phyrric victory. Absent the defeat of the Arab allies and the capture of the Gaza. Golan and West bank, there was a good chance that all in the area could have lived together. The expansion of the "settlements" populated by the most extreme Israelis wrote finis to any reasonable agreement. The damage over the last 50 years will not be repaired by a U.N decision. It will need a fair and honorable division of lands and responsibilities.

Phyrric victory? Yeah right look around Israel is thriving...the Arabs are stuck in the endless hate-filled mire of their own making. Better stick to what you know about... What would that be I wonder?

Nothing pyrrhic about Israel's victory in 1967. What I believe you fail to understand is that the very existence of the State of Israel is deeply offensive to her neighbors. But Israel is not going anywhere, and the ersatz "Palestinians" had their chance to accept a two-state solution -- including one which would have given them 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital. They rejected it in favor of starting the second intifada. That offer is no longer on the table. The ersatz "Palestinians" are a vanquished people. Israel has emerged victorious in all six wars, each of which were started by the Arabs. I remind you that the Golan Heights have been formally annexed. Judea and Samaria will be annexed, too, and the Arabs residing there will be repatriated to Jordan, country of their citizenship. Division of lands and responsibilities? I don't think so. To the victor belongs the spoils. If you recall, Germany lost 25% of its land mass -- and that was sovereign territory -- following World War II. I do believe the same rules of war apply in the Middle East. If the ersatz "Palestinians" don't like it, they can go pound sand.

Your predictions of 5,000,000 people marching and overthrowing Israel came to nothing. I would think you would have given up that doctor by now. He's not curing you.

Phil ,   Ireland   (06.08.11)
It's called UNSCR242 and it is legally binding. It calls for secure and recognised borders. Any Palestinian state based on borders which have not been negotiated as part of a peace process would be in breach of this resolution.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.08.11)
Actually .... Security Council Resolution 242 was passed under the Sixth Chapter of the United Nations Charter, not the Seventh. It is therefore not legally binding or enforceable. The ersatz "Palestinians" are, therefore, flat out of luck.
72. #71 Oops, my mistake!!
Phil ,   Ireland   (06.08.11)
So is the legal status based sloely on British Mandate Article 6 and UN Charter Article 80?
73. Phil #72 not exactly
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.09.11)
The laws that concern the territory are based on the San Remo Resolution of 1920, the Mandate for Palestine of 1922 and the UN Charter Article 80 of 1945. After 1949 with the admission of Israel as a member of the UN, the UN lost all authority over Israel and it's borders. UNSC 242 came in 1967 and has no authority over our borders. Those borders are the east bank of the Jordan River.

We tried giving some land back, Gaza, to be quite specific, what resulsted was increased rocket fire After the four wars that were started by the Arabs, we find it best to be cautious, you don't honor Cease Frie agreements And now, the new Government in Egypt is trying to renege on the deal Sadat made in return for his getting the Sinai back Your signatures aren't worth beans
