1. UN Security Council Resolution, 242, has been THE basis for
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (06.10.11)
all peace talks to date between Israel and its Arab neighbors, local and regional. Obama, has attempted to circumvent the legal basis on which an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between the Muslim-Arab world and the nation-state of the Jewish people is to come about. 242 demands of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to withdraw from "territories" captured during the defensive 1967 Six-Day War. But, 242 DOES NOT specify to which lines to do so, but to "secure and recognized boundaries". These "secure and recognized" boundaries are to be reached through direct negotiations between the warring parties. Yet, Obama, apparently, has already taken sides in these negotiations: placing Israel in a security risky position instead of adhering to the concept of "secure" boundaries. Jews, it is time for a change...!!
2. Wait until Congress cuts off financial aid.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.10.11)
3. Expired Language, Expired Empire
Nour ,   One-State   (06.10.11)
In light of the Arab Spring, Lieberman and Co ought to open their eyes wide and read recent regional developments correctly. The years of betting on the US as the key to transformation (or maintenance of the status quo) are over. The US senate can pass as many "resolutions" as they like, for it does not affect us. The '67 "boundaries" are an illusion, because Palestine is from River to Sea. Our people have spoken. We've fought on for survival since 1948, and we'll carry on until ALL our rights and properties are restored, everywhere in Palestine. This would include, but not limited to:The right to citizenship, to build, to vote for representatives, right to travel, and the right to live a dignified life free of genocide and ideological terror. Let Lieberman and that depraved Ileana sleep on it.
4. #1 242 was resolved with peace treaties
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (06.10.11)
What people forget is 242 was covered in treaties with Egypt and Jordan. The Palestinians were not part of 67 war and thus have no land to negotiate under 242.
5. #3 Nour,
Eli ,   Yerushalayim   (06.10.11)
I agree, only one state from the river to the sea, called ISRAEL!!!
6. The Muslim in the White House got his
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.10.11)
ASS kicked...oh well...couldn't have happened to a nicer person...
7. So now Israeli policy is to be legislated in the US ?
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (06.10.11)
I thought through AIPAC and other lobbyists it was the other way around. Perhaps we should just have one government so we don't get so confused on foreign policy issues.
8. #1; Jehudah, DEAD ON
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (06.10.11)
He is exactly right as the authors of Resolution 242 clearly and publicly stated. In fact you could, in a technical legal sense, argue that Israel has already fulfilled Resolution 242. Since it has given back most of the land it won in that defensive war. During the Reagan years, in the early 1980's, President Reagan asked the Pentagon to draw up a plan for defensible Israeli borders. He asked the military to ignore geopolitical problems. Just draw a map from a military perspective of defensible borders. Offers Israel has made to the Palestinians, have gone far beyond those recommendations by the Pentagon. Yet all they do is whine.
9. Eli, it shall be called Holy Land
Nour ,   One-State   (06.10.11)
Or Dawlat Al-Quds, or whatever you like - The bottom line is EQUAL rights, and if so-called Aliyah for fake Jewry is possible, then ROR shall be implemented for our people who were forced out 63 years ago. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
10. Oops, 30 Isn't 60
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (06.10.11)
With today's arcane US Senate rules, it takes 60 votes out of the 100 possible, not 30 or 32, to even get an issue to a vote. If brought to a vote, an issue then needs 51 to pass. Does Netanyahu and Lieberman have the 60 votes needed? Can they argue successfully that Obama was too unclear when he said, "with land swaps" in both his speeches? Can Hatch and Lieberman specify what the borders should be when they cheered the Netanyahu, "no independence, no sovereignty" principles in his speech? With neither independence nor sovereignty, what would borders matter anyway?
11. #3 Nour, thanks god !
Yossef   (06.10.11)
you finally talk the truth. It makes me feel more comfortable now to think about the future of Israel, from the river to the sea ;-))
12. Israel Needs 2Define Her Borders
US Jewish Realist ,   New Jersey, USA   (06.10.11)
... then we can debate and act on specifics rather than purposefully distorted facts and ambiguious policies. Also, the very public screaming by Jewish members of congress to lavishly spend even greater American resources and capabilities 4Israel while in economic/social/political distress will hurt both Jews & Israel in the not 2distant future resulting in a very steep path back 2where we should be ...
13. To Yehudah Ben-Israel
FO ,   Belgium   (06.10.11)
Allow me to add the following to your talkback. Prof. Eugene Rostow, the author of UN Resolution 242 had in mind the retreat of the Sinai Desert as a "withdrawal of Territories" because it represented about 94%. Prof. Rostow, as an expert in Law, was totally aware that the rest had been fixed by International Law since 1922. Indeed, the 24th of July 1922, the League of Nations voted the "Mandate for Palestine" in an unanimous vote by all its 51 members, a vote that gave the Jews the IRREVOCABLE RIGHT to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, a right unaltered in INTERNATIONAL LAW, and valid to this day, due to ARTICLE 80 of the CHARTER of the UNITED NATIONS. I suggest all of you to read "The Future of Palestine" written by Prof. Rostow. You will find it on Internet.
14. # 1 and # 8 Remember Rabin's speech at the Knesset in Oct.
Ruti ,   Kibbutz Dalia   (06.10.11)
1995 in which he clearly stated that Jerusalem must remain united under Israel's sovereignty and the Jordan Valley must be viewed in the widest sense of the phrase and also remain under Israeli rule. Rabin, I think, had a bit more understanding of Israel's security needs than Obama. Clearly, Obama is so hostile to Israel that even Israel's security is of little value to him. And, he is so pro-Muslim that even U.N. Security Council Resolution, 242 (an international legal document) is useless as long as he can side with the Islamic world.
15. The map, Beebee, show us the map
seadog1946 ,   Arthur Kill, NY   (06.10.11)
of Israel's defensible borders.
16. #1Jehudah Ben Israel TO PUT IT SUCCINCTLY
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.10.11)
UNSC Res.242 brought into being the process of peace from Israel's enemies in return for return by Israel of some land occupied in 1967. Obama's plan is for Israel to withdraw from land equivalent to that occupied in 1967 .....all before peace and a final settlement is negotiated. Obama is a big danger to Israel.I dare say that the Christians would call him Resolution 666. Well,I have an idea;Israel should turn the tables on Obama and the Arabs and insist on 'International Law',which is 242. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
17. HERE'S A PARADOX
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.10.11)
The evil Arab supremacist League regards the cease-fire lines with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as borders. Yet they regard the Golan border as a cease- fire line. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
18. Shelling nuts
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (06.10.11)
Well it seems that the U.S.Senate has decided that they should return to old fashioned down home natural foods whenever possible' but keeping the senate's tradition of providing regional favorites available. Praline pie! Yum. Walnuts in waldorf salad. Double Yum. But how to get all of those nuts shelled and made into those delectable pieces. And where to get them? What to do, what to do? Looks like the U.S.Senate has decided to sromp ZerObamas nuts for the ingretients for those treats. Triple political Yum.
19. Obama's "contribution" to lack of talks:
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (06.10.11)
1. Insisting that Jews, only because they are Jewish, must refrain from residing in certain villages, towns and even city neighborhoods of their ancestral homeland and capital city. Jews, of course, can't accept it. But the PLO's PA placed it as a condition for further talks. 2. The call at the UN to accept an "independent Palestine" as a member state of the UN by September 2011. This couldn't be achieved of course, as long as the PLO's PA refuses to come to the negotiating table. But, thanks to Obama, this has become another goal that will only cause a set-back to actual peace talks. 3. The insistence by the US President, contrary to UN Security Council Resolution, 242, and all previous agreements by the sides, that the 1949 armistice lines - dubbed wrongly by Obama as the 1967 borders - be the basis for territorial negotiations, while UN Security Council Resolution, 242 does not expects the warring parties withdraw to any particular lines, as long as the future boundaries will be "secure and recognized", to be reached through direct negotiations and not by dictates of an American President. The PLO's PA has now taken this Obama's view as a precondition. All three are Obama's hand-made obstacles to peace talks, used by the PLO's PA to avoid direct talks with Israel and its elected officials.
20. # 3 Nour
Harry ,   Toronto Canada   (06.10.11)
Is it the policy of Ynet to allow letters calling for the destruction of The State of israel to be published on the website? Is this not an incitement to violence and genocide? As for this person, needless to say, the world already understands that the arab spring is a farce and arab violence is there for all to see. As for the US being an expired empire, maybe but the arab spring is a mixture of hunger and bankruptcy of countries and people from whom your editor allows persons to incite to violence and genocide of Jews. Shame on you Ynet!
21. His final ass kicking comes in Nov. 2012! VOTE REPUBLICAN!!

Obama needs this smack down.
23. TO ERIC # 4
FO ,   Belgium   (06.10.11)
You just forgot that by decision of the League of Nations, the Arabs got 77% of the Palestinian territory. They still should negotiate for more in your opinion?
24.  Of course the puppets will follow orders
Chris.B ,   Australia   (06.10.11)
from their AIPAC masters. Any American congressman who questions the Israel policy is sentenced to political death, harrassment and mass media attack. Its no secret.I'm surprised they dont eat magic mushrooms and pray to a volcano as well.
25. Bibi has beaten Obama at last
zionist forever   (06.10.11)
For years Obama had the Senate & Congress in his back pocket and he said something and they said what a wonderful idea Mr President. He could kick Bibi as hard as he liked because it was great for his muslim outreach. Now Bibi has given a great speech to Congress and won them round to his way of thinking. Obama is in an election campaign so can't put to much pressure on Bibi now. What ever happens next this has been a symbolic victory for Bibi over Obama who openly made himself Israel's enemy.
26. Amen to pro Israel senators. 8 MILES WIDE IS SUICIDE
Judah ,   Isareal   (06.10.11)

27. Nour One-State
Moragh   (06.10.11)
Nour, I do sympathise with you in your terrible dilemma, but I DO WISH you would read the Bible. The Book is of old and nowhere is there to be found a Palestine. Israel starts in Genesis and ends in Revelations. ALL YOU WILL FIND (in just about) EVERY Chapter is the name Israel. Nowhere have I ever found a country called Palestine. I don't know if it is to be found in your Qu'ran, but the Qu'ran is NOT the Bible of old. With all you've got, offer up a prayer to the ONLY God, and you will get a truthful answer if you keep your mind open and your ears peeled. God is not a liar and you cannot deceive Him. The closest you will get to a place named Palestine is with reference to the barbaric murdering people whose "homes" were to be found in the Arabian Deserts. The only reason that Ishmael came into being was because Abram couldn't keep it 'tucked' away and Hagar, Sarah's hand-maiden, made her move on Abraham. I know you don't want to hear this, Nour, nevertheless, facts have to be faced. From Abraham's own lust, Ishmael came into being. Hagar was jealous, and that vicious trait never ever left the blood of the arabs which the world can see to this very day!!!
28. Not today, not tomorrow, Not ever
Ceasar   (06.10.11)
Nour # 3; You, your children, your grandchildren are never going to see an Israel split to accomadate your worthless dreams; never going to see a split Jerusalem, so your depraved and savage sect will have to make due with Amman or some other god foresaken Oasis in the middle of nowhere. Not one inch will be given away, and Jerusalem is ours forever like it or not. The faster reality sinks in, the easyer the transition from a stateless sect to a brighter future in Jordan. Not a complex choice.
29. To Yossef, # 11 - would a ' mikveh' do ?
ceasar   (06.10.11)
Yes, from the river to the gutter; for the overflow.
30. #3 - yes, Arabs have changed their leopard spots
William ,   Israel   (06.10.11)
or have they? Libya and Syria, and massive rushes of illegal racist "Palestinians" (quotes definitely intended) indicate the spots are coming through despite the nice coat of paint they gave themselves. By they way, I didn't know Jordan bordered on the sea (except the tiny part of Red Sea)
