1. "Loving the State"
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (06.22.11)
B"H - Oz: "I am saying this as a man who loves the state". - ABY: Yes, but you hate G-d, His People and His Land. So, what does the State mean without these three? Eh?
2. Conference of discredited losers.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
Other than Netanyahu, and perhaps a few other token sane people, the Presidential Conference is a conference of discredited losers. Losers whose appeasement agenda has been proven completely wrong. Losers who've been completely rejected by Israeli voters. What else can one expect, considering it was organized by Peres? Kind of discredited losers.
3. Amos Oz
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.11)
Make him stop. He's gotten to the point where he's embarrassing himself. What part of NO RETURN TO 1967 LINES and NO DIVISION OF JERUSALEM does he not understand? Yes, pretty much everyone in Israel had agreed to the two-state solution, and offered the ersatz "Palestinians" 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital. They turned it down and started the second intifada instead. The offer is off the table; never to return. You simply cannot make peace with people who consistently demonstrate that nothing has changed; they do not wish to co-exist with Israel, they wish to supplant Israel. That's just not going to happen. They will NEVER change.
4. Clever words, but hot air!
Jenny Bernstein ,   USA   (06.22.11)
Leftist Oz is sincere and has a way with words, but like so many of his ilk, he tends to live in cloud cuckoo land. When the lightbulb switches on that the conflict is about Arab rejectionism, rather than settlements, he'll begin to make sense. Until then, he should concentrate on his considerable literary skills and little else.
5. Who cares about what Amos Oz says ?
(06.22.11)
excepted Ynet...
6. Ongoing occupation ? He must be crazy
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (06.22.11)
in the coconut...
7. seriously delusional
yoni ,   tel aviv   (06.22.11)
anyone who ignores the reality of the fact that the arabs in our state want to destroy Israel. anyone who denies the fact that Israel is a jewish state for the Jewish people. just plain delusional
8. Amos Os is history!
Ben Ze'ev ,   USA   (06.22.11)
He is from the same school of thought, that of the socialist movement lead by Ben Gurion, who was satisfied with just a jewish homeland in and around Tel Aviv. So Mr. Oz, the struggle for Eretz Israel might take more decades or eternity ,so don't get too comfortable with any wishfully thinking and cut a deal for deal sake and get real. There is no wish for peace on the arab side and will never be. That's the crude reality!
9. Confused
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (06.22.11)
I read the article and I am seriously confused. Amos Oz is an author. Can someone please explain to me why the opinion of an author---even a famous author on a political situation is newsworthy. His level of expertise is exactly that of any other Israeli in the street. Until each of them gets news coverage, then why is this idiot ignored when he does anything but write.
10. Amos Oz Speaks The Truth!
nadya ,   CA., US   (06.22.11)
11. #8 ben ze'ev
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.22.11)
For the record: Ben Gurion was NOT "satisfied with just a jewish homeland in and around Tel Aviv. " He insisted on continuing the fight for Jerusalem even after the Hagana commanders wanted to stop as their losses were so great. He said "without Jerusalem there is no state."
12. I'm chewing gum for the soothing balancing effect
Ypip ,   Canada   (06.22.11)
13. Amos Oz
Robert ,   Brisbane Australia   (06.22.11)
It's heartening to see that not all Israelis have been blinded by hatred and self interest and that some have the wherewithal to foresee the future.
14. What a doofus
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (06.22.11)
He sent an autographed copy of his book along with a love letter to Marwan Barghouti, convicted murderer.
15. Amos is the man!
Jeremiah   (06.22.11)
16. "eventually cede some of their ancestral homeland"?
emanon ,   USA   (06.22.11)
There never was an arab country in Israel for the terrorsrinians to cede, so how can they give anything up? So far, it is all Isarel giving up land and the arabs taking it while demanding more. NO!!! No more land to the terrorstinians! Gaza was a lie: the deal was move all the Jews who rightfully owned the land out so the arabs can move in and there will be peace. Did not happen did it?!
17. A divorce?
Robert ,   NY USA   (06.22.11)
Arab: "I want most of this. All of that. More of those. And he has no right to anything." Israeli: "Married? Show me a marriage license? A wedding picture? This is the first time I've ever seen this crazy women in my life?"
18. Amos Oz who?
Rachel ,   US   (06.22.11)
19. Dwarfs talking about giants, poor Israel
Rika Chaval   (06.22.11)
People who don't even respect David Ben Gurion should shut up about Israel altogether. They love only themselves and know nothing. How would they appreciate great Amos Oz !
20. Conflict not Amos Oz novel
Stan ,   Jerusalem   (06.22.11)
21. wake up Amos
Dan David   (06.22.11)
Amos, it is about time, even for a story teller like you to stop suporting the Arab propaganda claiming "ocupation" when you know very well that the opposite is true "liberation" of the jewish homeland.
22. Political Correctness is valued more than life itself.
Sandra ,   NYC   (06.22.11)
Amos Oz is clinically politically correct. It's the only thing he can see and he would give up the state of Israel to serve it. Israel has tried to make peace with the Arabs but they still don't want the Jewish state to exist. Amos Oz can't fix this. All he can do is to yell at Israel as if it will make the Arabs love Israel instead of hating it.
23. amos oz
marcia leis ,   miami, fl usA   (06.22.11)
if this author leftist leans anymore to the left he will topple over. he gets more radical as the yaers go by. The wizard of oz needs to move to kansas.
24. OZ IS FAIR
yushl ,   yerushalaim   (06.22.11)
I am confident that as a respected author and noted intellectual, Mr. A. Oz has slammed the Palestinian leadership and/or the various liberation organizations for excesses, such as killing civilians, maiming adult and juvenile non-combatants. It seems that the Zionist Left is uncomfortable about publishing such criticism lest the public think that Mr. Oz is fair and balanced in his crusade for peace. Perhaps the next time Mr. Oz is invited to a Hamas or Fatah conference on peace in the region, he should use the platform to articulate his objection to wanton murder of settlers, indiscriminate bombing of malls, hotels and cafes. Subsequently, the newspapers and radio stations should give first page and first item reports of the applause that the audience gave Mr. Oz for his words. Otherwise, people will opine unfairly that Mr. Oz has a predisposition towards criticizing Nationalistic, democratically elected governments of Israel, in favor of our sworn enemy, the enemy who refuses to annul or renounce its oath and covenant to destroy Israel, despite Mr. Oz's declaration: "I am saying this as a man who loves the state." That would be UNFAIR.
25. #2 & #3: Thank you! Well expressed.
Israeli 2   (06.22.11)
26. The Wizzard of Oz? - hardly
Talula ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
The man may be a great author, but I think he didn't really engage his brain before opening his mouth. On a brighter note, I think that Tony Blair spoke some noteworthy comments, and our Shimon said the obvious.
27. Total divorce is not possible
Salma ,   Palestine   (06.22.11)
because sooner or later Palestinian refugees will return to their homes inside "Israel".
28. How very, very sad...
Moshe ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.22.11)
Over the centuries, we Jews have rightfully been known for our intelligence, insight, and wisdom. Sadly, so many of these talkbacks give lie to that belief. Amos Oz has more intelligence, insight, and wisdom in one finger than most of these brainwashed, right wing automatons have in their bodies. Mr. Oz is one of Israel's greatest assets who speaks wisdom and truth. Thank G-d for Amos Oz. How I wish Israel had more persons cut from his cloth. It is interesting and discomfiting how many of these negative comments come from persons sitting in the comfort and safety of the good ol' USA. Why dont you devote your time to some other important endeavor such as electing Sarah Palin or, better yet, learning and thinking instead of further damaging our beloved Israel?
29. Amos Oz HEARTS convicted TERRORIST
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.22.11)
Just a few months ago, Amos Oz gives a book of his to Marwan Barghouti and wishes him a SPEEDY release from prison. The Fatah TERRORIST is serving FIVE life terms for his active role in MASS MURDERING Jews and planning TERROR ATTACKS including SUICIDE BOMBINGS. Yet, as reported here and elsewhere in the past, Amos has NO qualms CRITICISING Israel for defending and PROTECTING its people from TERROR or CURSING Jewish settlers.
30. a conference with so many clowns
Golan ,   Modiin   (06.22.11)
lets see... Sarah Silverman, Amos Oz, Shakira, and Peres... all they need now is Lauren Booth and the picture would be complete.
