31. Amos Oz
Ayelet HaShachar ,   Maale Adummim, Israe   (06.22.11)
Does the distinguished author really believe that there will be no rockets flying from Kalkilya to Kfar Saba and beyond? Is he prepared for his offspring to live in bomb shelters, shop in bomb shelters, wait for buses in bomb shelters, and play pretty flowery decorated bomb shelters? Or will he and his family be some of the "wealthier" ones who will move out of them country when it's being bombed to hell?
32. So ignoring facts makes them vanish?
Nic ,   UK   (06.22.11)
First of all you're basing your assertations on a cease fire line, one that was established with the State of Jordan, not the Palestinian Authority, secondly, that ceasefire ended in 1967 by Jordan when they ammassed on the borders ready to attack with the Arab League, thus invalidating all ceasefire agreements by resuming fire. Third of all, the Arab citizens who fled were invited to return, those who didn't were offered monetary compensation (which many accepted), the Jewish refugees forced from their Jerusalem homes never received any such repatition and have a right to reclaim their property from squatters (that is the technical term) via a court process that has taken years. To deny them this right while advocating it for others is a concept known as "inequality", it is also known as being a hypocrite. I'm not even going to go into the issue of forcing a corrupt, ineffectual, hate mongering Palestinian leadership onto people who don't want it. Now if you want to talk about 1967 lines, talk to Jordan, spread the blame etc and so on....

Honey child, you can wave to us from Amman. Oh, wait! Once you said your mother came from Jerusalem. Another time, you told us all about her tiny feet (yeah, right!) in Akko. So, which is it, chica? Jerusalem? Akko? Schehem? Hebron? Doesn't matter. Like I said ..... I truly do hope you like Amman. If not ... Gaza City. But you can forget all about Medinat Israel. We don't want you. And you are not "coming back." You had no business here to begin with. In fact, I highly doubt you were ever here. I strongly suggest that you do not forget that. We haven't. We won't. Trust me.
34. There is no "peace" process, he is a dreaming fool.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.22.11)
35. #30
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.22.11)
What do you have against Shakira?
36. To: No. 28
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.11)
Hate to break this to you, but Amos Oz is an idiot. Sadly -- if you do not realize this, then you are, too.
37. To: Talula at No.26
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.11)
Actually, Talula, truth be told, he's not that great an author.
38. To 36
Moshe ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.22.11)
Regardless of philosophy or where one stands on the political spectrum, anyone with any modicum of intelligence would acknowledge that Amos Oz is a brilliant writer with an uncommon intellect. I genuinely believe (and hope) that he will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, joining numerous other Israelis who have won a Nobel Prize, in vastly disproportionate numbers to our population. You have obviously never read any of Mr. Oz's books and, based on your own writing on talkbacks and your "thinking" (or what you call it), it is dubious if you read ANY books. Good luck to you. Oh, and please, PLEASE stay in the States. There are more than enough of your ilk damaging Israel right here.
39. To: No. 38
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.11)
1. Amos Oz is hardly brilliant. Trust me -- I have far more than a "modicum of intelligence." If you think that Amos Oz is possessed of an "uncommon intellect," I very strongly recommend that you return to school, get your high school diploma and -- possibly, if you can find a college that will accept you -- attend university. 2. I have three degrees, by the way -- one from Wellesley, two from Harvard. I assure you that I have read many books -- certainly far more than you. Do you even own any? I certainly don't get that impression. 3. No, I think that I will come to Israel pretty much whenever I want. I do, however, think that you should leave. You, sir, are no Jew, and Israel doesn't need any of your ilk. 4. Don't mess with me. You lack the ability and -- most definitely -- the intellectual acuity. Back off. I really would prefer to avoid humiliating you. But, if need be -- I can. Trust me. I can. I will.
40. #37 Matter of opinion.
Talula ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
And your opinion does not outway mine.
41. to 39
Moshe ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.22.11)
Ah, revealing the true you in all its sociopathic glory. Yes, there surely is a place for you in Israel. Bring your saw to cut down Arabs' olive trees and your lighter to burn mosques, to really help Israel in the way you best know how. You'll fit in perfectly in certain circles. But I know your type. All B.S. sitting over there pontificating on how Israel should deal with "the situation" in the manner that further isolates and delegitimizes her. You have neither the strength, the courage, the wherewithal, or anything else necessary to make it here. Or you would have been here already instead of simply writing Talkbacks. Your "big" contribution to Eretz Yisrael. You talk the talk but are totally incapable of walking the walk. Just a big B.S.er. Speaking of B.S., I believe you have two degrees from Harvard like I believe YOU will win the Nobel Prize in Literature. You are a loser- in EVERY manner.
42. Glasgow BANS Amos Oz books
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (06.22.11)
News reports last month : Several districts in southwest Scotland expands boycott on Israeli products, bar stores from carrying English translations of Israeli books. The BANNED books would include those by Amos Oz.
43. Not a trifle worse than,...
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (06.22.11)
I slam the drivel; the totally BORING mash up of words collected for the purpose of doing something or other. OZ, IS a bore. And he just gets worse. Why anyone bothers to read, and now listen to his chicken scratches and blather is beyond rational thought. WAIT! Naybe the forced reading of the beclowned OZ's soul clawings could be used as a criminal deterent.
44. To: No. 40
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.11)
I think you mean "outweigh." That would certainly explain why you are so poorly read that you think Amos Oz is a good writer. Stick to A. A. Milne, dear. That's about your speed.
45. Ancestral Homeland?
MKW ,   Newton...USA   (06.22.11)
What??: "However the good news, he said, is that the vast majority of both peoples know they must eventually cede some of their ancestral homeland". What exactly is the ancestral homeland of the palestinians? Is ancestral home land the one that suddenly came to existence together with the "palestinian people" in 1967? Let's see, the jews are first mentioned in the BIBLE and have an attachment to the land for more than 2000 years, the palestinians poofed into existence in 1967...palestinian ancestral home land? GIVE ME A BREAK!
46. Oz, Master Propagandist for Expansionist Islam
Linda Rivera ,   New York, USA   (06.22.11)
Takiyya! Oz: "The vast majority of both peoples know they must eventually cede some of their ancestral homeland." In all of history Israel has been the ancestral homeland of only one people, the Jews! There NEVER was an Arab country of Palestine. Jerusalem was NEVER the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Jerusalem is mentioned hundreds of times in the Jewish Bible, not once in the Koran. Stop trying to steal G-D's Holy Land!
47. Well said, Moshe, losers don't go to Harvard
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.22.11)
Maybe she drove by the coffee shops? Then she pointed out a library and said "many books by Amos Oz there."
48. Amos Oz: "situation not black and white"
William ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
That's right, Amos...which is why you're reverting to the term "occupation" is so inaccurate. You claim the situation is complex but choose to use the Leftist fall-back claim without hesitation. You're a hypocrite and every bit of self-righteous as the other twits on the Left. The fact that you write books and is considered an "intellectual" means nothing, since you can't even keep from contradicting yourself in your own speech.
49. #28, #38, #41 Moshe
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.22.11)
It's sad to see people castigating others just because they don't agree. Your comments assumed many 'facts' allowing you to disparage others. You may have more "right" to comment than others. You also may not have more "right" to comment than others. For that you might want to first hear the history of each and every person who posts; who has/has not lived in Israel, who has/has not contributed in an over the top way, etc. Your shooting from the hip, before 'being shot at', leaves much to be desired. You seem to have the same lack of wisdom you see in others.
50. Losers don't go to Harvard?
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (06.22.11)
Notwithstanding their supreme old boys network, Harvard and the rest of the "Ivy League" are, and have been attended by the some most pathetic series of losers and pieces of pee poor protoplasm in the history of the U.S. The current useless blot of political shoescraping; the occupant of the White House is a stella example. Attendance at a Univerity is no indication of what was or what should have been learned. There are "winners" who were in attendance at small and unknown colleges and universities. Some of the most outstanding winners are persons who attended no "advanced school" of any form.
51. Amos Oz - you are disgrace and shame to Israel.
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (06.22.11)
and to think i liked your books as a kid. I must throw them in a Charity Shop in a muslim dominated neighbourhood nearby ... where i can be safely assured that said books will more than likely be destroyed by the very 'peoples' hands you scream out your rose coloured clap trap in favour of over your OWN people. Take your meds old 'man'!
52. #50 Gideon, Amos Oz's books are at Harvard, agreed?
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.22.11)
More than at smaller universities' libraries, agreed? She didn't read any of it, definitely not one in Hebrew, agreed?
53. Peace
Misha ,   Lowestoft UK   (06.23.11)
Please visit my site for Yusuf Islam's song. Peace be upon all the righteous who seek peace.
54. Amos Oz is right
Lee ,   NYC   (06.23.11)
God, His People and His Land are here -- but the state is for all Jews to live freely - observant or not.
55. Gaza situation
John Winston ,   San Francisco, CA, U   (06.24.11)
The deal in Gaza was not a negotiated deal - made by Sharon to impress Bush - who was a unilateralist. There was no deal - and the left correctly criticized Sharon for that. Israel has taken a lot of land in the West Bank and Gaza and Jerusalem to get rid of the Arabs. There was even in the past land in Israel proper that was taken over. Read "The Lemon Tree" for an instance of this. To pretend that Israel is all moral and the Arabsd immoral is B.S. and everyone knows that there is wrong on both sides of the issue. When this is recognized, there is a chance for peace - because both sides recognize that the other is not going away.
56. West Bank occupation!
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (03.25.12)
He is right!!! The Arab occupiers must return to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
