1. Protests regarding Rav Lior's arrest
mercaz ,   modiin Israel   (06.27.11)
Just one more effort by the leftist elitist scum to try to persecute the right. This too shall pass, as the leftist population is shrinking towards extinction. Just wait about 20 years and they will be a tiny minority.
2. I am outraged!!!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (06.27.11)
I am outraged that people who regularly rightly lambaste Islamofascists for incitement and for calling for persecution and murder of Jews somehow think it's no big deal for a Jew (and a "rabi" at that!) to, allegedly, do the same vis-a-vis Arabs and Moslems. If Palestinians' anti-Semitic schoolbook and political narrative is an indicator of their mindset, then this jerk's is an indicator of Israelis' (those who identify themselves with him, at any rate). If you support this piece of...work..., then you have no right to EVER again say anything about the Arabs' unremitting rhetoric against Jews.
3. A great rabbi would not have ignored the police
Noa ,   B7, IL   (06.27.11)
He was invited to a hearing and ignored it - he is arrogant, and therefore no great Rabbi. Our Chief Rabbis should be concerned about society and not deal with power issues.
4. Stupid, stupid, stupid
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.27.11)
Rabbis are becoming an embarrassment these days. If its not a sex scandal, its organ trafficking, if its not organ trafficking, its soliciting murder... Alas, gone are the days when Rabbis stick to their duties of being God's men on earth....
5. outrageous
mike ,   uk   (06.27.11)
These rabbis who think they can say what they like and hid behind some religious law. Lets be clear, Israel is not a theocracy but its heading that way. As the religious right grows and the religious split deepens, Israel will lose its moral authority and will be abandoned by its secular jews, myself included.
6. #3 Noa: you have no idea what you are talking about!
Sergio ,   Qiryat Arba   (06.27.11)
This was a provocation, an attack to Toràh. Period. Had they meant to question him, they would have paid him a visit... He is an 80 year old rabbi, one of the biggest living Talmide' Chakhamim, THE ONLY living rabbi who since the beginning of his learning all the way to the end of dayanut got all 100% on his tests! Today's Greeks and Hellenizers, better not start attacking TORAH THIS WAY, and remember Chanukah!
7. The Professor threatening to break the neck of Rightist
Rachel ,   US   (06.27.11)
Was he arrested?
8. @1, the religious bigot
Beauchard ,   Amsterdam   (06.27.11)
Is Israel becoming a shtetl? Where individual Rabbis decide what is the law. Or will Israel remain a democratic Zionist state? One question. Who will protect you and your racist Rabbis when you have hounded all the secular Jews away?
9. I like it when you said:
Israeli 2   (06.27.11)
Today's Greeks and Hellenizers, better not start attacking TORAH THIS WAY, and remember Chanukah! So TRUE! K-4 = Hebron = Leolmei ad.

Israeli 2   (06.27.11)

Ester   (06.28.11)

12. #4 Sarah B. Wrong Wrong Wrong
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.28.11)
Rabbis' are not Priests who purport to represent God on earth They are teachers rab·bi/ˈrabˌī/Noun 1. A Jewish scholar or teacher, esp. one who studies or teaches Jewish law. 2. A person appointed as a Jewish religious leader. More » Wikipedia - Dictionary.com - Answers.com - Merriam-Webster
13. Israel Jewish state is run by Bolsheviks of Communist Russia

where Freedom of Speech is ONLY for Leftists, destroyers of the country. Another proof that Israel is not a Democracy and NEVER WAS!
14. Still doesn't want me to buy the book...spill it.
Ypip ,   Canada   (06.28.11)
15. This is what we are forced to defend
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (06.28.11)
around the world and interced for in the international political arena. People who threaten their own authorities if they dare to arrest one of their leaders.I guess there would be a civil war if they tried to evacuate any of the settlements. That of course means Israel must look to protect the rights of all it's new citizens.
16. HAHA!!!!
IRAN#1   (06.28.11)

18. Ignorance is Bliss, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (06.28.11)
All the foolish comments. I can't believe this. And Sarah, I thought you were a person with sense. The gist of the ruling is that in time of war, we are prompted to defend ourselves from attack from our enemies. For this they arrested him? For this all you blissfull people attack the religious? May Hash-m not punish you for your foolish words.
19. jail the lot of them, there is a system of law in Israel
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (06.28.11)
If they dont like it they are free to leave. Who do they think they are? Do they think they are above the law?
20. sara b
david ,   haifa israel   (06.28.11)
I have never not agreed with you... Until today. Usually you have good to say... Not today. The seculars dhould leave the Rav alone.

phil ,   the free world   (06.28.11)
22. #12 - It's not Sarah B - rather an impostor
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (06.28.11)
23. Shai Nitzan Must Go!
NormanF ,   USA   (06.28.11)
Shai Nitzan ordered the arrest and the Israeli police had to carry out his order. He is a greater danger to Israeli democracy than Rabbi Dov Lior. He needs to be removed from his position! Shai Nitzan must go!
24. to 12
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (06.28.11)
Come on Ben,no 4 does not sound like Sarah to me.Sarah knows the diff between a Rabbi and a Priest.
25. to 3, 4, 5
mark ,   brooklyn baby   (06.28.11)
YOU GUYS JUST DON'T GET IT. The rabbi can say what he wants, whenever he wants, it's his human right. Its called freedom of expression. He doesn't have to talk to the cops, or explain himself to anybody at any time. can u guys get it thru your heads? Freedom of expression. It's in the american constitution and it's a god given right. period. you turkeys need to find yourself a good tyranny to live in-you don't know and will never know the meaning of the word freedom. btw this crap would never ever have happened in the us. no prosecutor would even think of doing anything like what these israeli clowns did .
26. Rabbis
daze ,   US   (06.28.11)
#16 you are wrong, your mullahs are evil and calculating, they advocate killing and destroying. Ben Jabo got it right, rabbis are scholars and teachers, who are desperately trying to hang on to what is Jewish. They are far more vital to Israel than the worse than useless liberal arab loving leftists
27. Has anyone read the book?
babawawa ,   new york, usa   (06.28.11)
How do you arrest people for supporting a book and let others who literally call for the murder of Jews to run free? The protest was against the double standard. Right on.
28. Rav Lior's Arrest
david j balint ,   Seattle, WA, US   (06.28.11)
Hummm. Let me get this straight, if the justice system doesn't do what the hareidim want they will do violence against the state. What organization does that remind me of? I have an idea re 'mutually agreed land exchanges' with the Palestinians--give them Mea Shearim and B'nai Brak. David
29. Not totaly familiar with Rabbi Dov Lior's teaching...
Galut ,   Selah   (06.28.11)
however one day in the near future there will be a messiah setting on the throne of David...it will be interesting to see some of the comments by folks like these on these talkbacks at that point in time....
30. The goal of Humanity must be to eliminate Religion period ,
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.28.11)
but before that can happen we must slowly but surely take back the powers that we so carelessly have relegated to the assorted "representatives/teachers/wise-guys/wise-men" of the Big Pie in the Sky, the Spiritual Sugar-daddy of power hungry crooks: God. This will take a very, very long time and must be done through education/enlightment only, otherwise it'll be just another war in the name of religion. That we've had had for thousands of years: it ain't workin'....
