61. Stupid me
Bob Night ,   USA   (06.29.11)
Last year I ruined my propeller running over a rock. Cost me a bundle to repair. I'm wondering... if I would have blamed Israel for sabotage, maybe my insurance would have paid for a new prop.
62. A note for the reporter of this story
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.29.11)
Juliano Mer was not 'killed'. He was murdered by Palestinians who opposed his humanitarian work in Jenin. That is important information you omitted which not every reader is aware of.

How do you know that the pallies are "dirti poor" you havent been there since 2002; you have zero aurthority to know about the economic situations of your beloved Gazan brothers.
64. Next flotilla will send SOS to Israel
Cynthia ,   USA   (06.29.11)
Help! Help! Our propeller fell off, sharks are circling, jihadis are tearing up the place, toilets are blocked and no 24 hour buffet!!
65. Get real!
Shmuel ,   Maale Adumim   (06.29.11)
The only unit in Israel that could have done this would have been the S-13, AND... if the S-13 had really gone through all of the time and eneregy to go to this port in Greece and damage a ship's screw, believe me they would have rendered the screw really inoperable much worse than this!
66. Juliano Mer
Salma ,   Palestine   (06.29.11)
we miss you but we will continue your struggle, they can kill you once but they can't kill you twice..
67. #66
Devorah   (06.29.11)
Your own people killed Juliano Mer. What's wrong with you? Are you that brainwashed?
68. #66 Salma: Ever heard of a living death?
Israeli ,   Israel   (06.29.11)
That's what the Nazis did to the Jews and were supported by the Arabs in their Genocide against Jews, Gypsies and others! Dror Feiler seems to forget that he is a Jew, even if he hates Jews, and that Palestinians have a habit of killing those, Jews and non-Jews who try to help them in their war of hatred! Example: "Juliano Mer-Khamis; a man who had dedicated his life to introduce the Palestinian youth to the world of drama and acting". Nice people, hmm? Actually, the "ship" is named Juliano Mer so maybe Hamas damaged it because he was a JEW!
69. The poverty in Gaza is inflicted on purpose by Israel
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (06.29.11)
The various respndents here who claim that there is no poverty in Gaza or that the poverty is just average, that the Palestinians have only themselves to blame and that everything is basically hunky dory prove that they have little or no insight in the unequal relationship between Israel and the occupied Palestinian piece of land that Gaza is. Don't these people read newspapers?! Recently there were big stories about Gaza's rampant unemployment. A UN study showed that the unemployment rate at the end of 2010 was 45.2%, among the highest in the world. The only reason that this percentage is not higher is that the Hamas government has created jobs in the public sector. Jobs in the private sector continue to be wiped out. Israel's blockade and economic wrecking policy (throttling all exports apart from a few trucks of carnations) has all but destroyed the private sector. If Israel's aim was to destroy Hamas it has failed miserably, because the Hamas led public sector was the only area that saw some growth! The big difference between the poverty in Gaza and poverty elsewhere is that the poverty in Gaza is deliberately and maliciously inflicted by Israel. This was the case long before Hamas ever came to power. One of the recognised world authorities on the Gazan economy (certainly in the years between 1967 and 2005) is Sara Roy, an American political economist and scholar. She has described in great detail how Israel over the years has "de-developed" the Gaza Strip reducing it to a cheap source of labour and a dumping ground for unwanted Palestinians. Although my last stay in Gaza was in 2006 (being prevented by Israel from entering since then) I can claim to know Gaza pretty well. Who of you, ## 29, 31, 47, 52, 55, 57, 58, 59 or 63 has ever read Sara Roy's work or has lived in or spent even a few weeks in the Gaza Strip? Don't you realize how ridiculous you sound, denying that there is any substantial poverty in Gaza? If Israel blockades the Strip since years and puts its inhabitants on a starvation diet as former Sharon advisor Dov Weisglass explained, then the consequences will be suffering and hardship; collective punishment. It is ridiculous to deny this.
70. To: No. 22
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.29.11)
First of all, I invite you to offer proof. You are assuming "facts" not in evidence. Secondly, I have spent my adult life in the world of shipping. I KNOW what vandalism and deliberate sabotage looks like, and I KNOW what casual wear and tear looks like. What you see on the propeller shaft is casual wear and tear. If you are going to deliberately sabotage a propeller, you sabotage the blades, not the shaft. Shut your vile, anti-Semitic and extraordinarily stupid mouth. If I had known you were that enamored of the "floptilla," I'd have paid your airfare -- first class -- to board one of the vessels. I hope you know how to swim.
71. A possible way to turn the media attention arround.
Cosmo Furr ,   USA   (06.30.11)
I think the key here is to show the protesters as 'ridiculous' and keep the ships from reaching gaza port (well no real port) but also to show that they are no threat to Israel. The IDF should wait until the ships are within sight of Gaza before boarding them. So to maximize camera coverage. BUT The first wave of troops (with a backup group to protect them) should all be female IDF soldiers in Bikinis and 'welding' camcorders and 'warrants' Make sure what the cameras record is a story of 'clearly harmless soldiers trying to issue legal orders to dock at the nearest Israeli port rather than at Gaza' The 'Bikinis' would pretty much guarantee that Israels version will get on ever TV news show as well as showing how idiotic and ridiculous the protesters are. Win Win.
72. DAMAGED PROPELLER !!
mark ,   t.a. israel   (06.30.11)
ACCORDING TO A RELIABLE SOURCE # DROR FEILER # HELPED THE SABOTEURS DIVULGING TO THEM THE ITINIRARY OF THE SHIP !!
73. #9 - the people of Gaza are free today!!!
YZ ,   Israel   (06.30.11)
Except to Israel, they can go out from Gaza and get back whenever they like. They can buy whatever they like, they can eat & drink whatever they like. The only limitation is gating arms, rockets and ammunition by the sea. If you don't believe it, go there and see by yourself.
74. #69 the Red Cross doesn't agree with you
John ,   Alaska   (06.30.11)
According to The Atlantic (Jun 27, 2011) "But how can anyone possibly think that Gaza is the primary centre of injustice in the Middle East? According to Mathilde Redmatn, deputy director of the International Red Cross in Gaza, there is in fact no humanitarian crisis there at all. But by God, there is one in Syria, where possibly thousands have died in the past month." Your lengthy rant does not hold up in light of facts. Without Israel there to occupy it, there is no "Occupation" in Gaza. With Egypt unilaterally opening travel between Egypt and Gaza, there is no humanitarian reason for the flotilla. Huwaida Arraf, founder of the Free Gaza Movemant said on June 28, 2011: “Now I will speak as a Palestinian. Israel’s policy to undermine the flotilla by saying that aid is getting into Gaza will not work. The flotilla is not about aid and Palestinians do not want humanitarian aid. We yearn for, we demand liberation.” (source: Ma'am News Agency) So your fellow terrorist sympathizers and the Red cross and simple logic say you are wrong. They all say that there is no humanitarian crises in Gaza.
75. Really?
Ben ,   Dublin, Ireland   (07.04.11)
The exact same damage on two different flotilla vessels while on the dock? No, typical dings at sea damage props, not shafts, Also, the shaft is usually above the lowest point of the hull, minimizing the chance of this happening. I've worked for years on boards, damaged props, hulls, egines, everything, but not prop shafts.
