What to devout muslims do in every single other country that has friday as a workday and sunday off?

i think you do quite well living in the usa and europe where saturday and sunday are the weekend and not work days. why don't you protest in the usa and europe over two feee work days on saturday and sunday????? why do you protest only in israel?

We are a country with a majority of people that observe Friday and Saturday as their holy days of the week. Our Christian minority that observes Sunday is fully allowed to take their day of rest. I am against making Sunday an official day off. On the other hand, I think more places should be open and public transportation (or their alternatives) should be running on Saturday during the day.

Friday is already a half work day for Jews and a day off for Muslims. Wouldn't it make more sense to make Friday a full day off rather than Sunday to limit loss of productivity?

Arabs can work whenever they want, there's no need for antics: but in our JEWISH STATE we will be voting in line with JEWISH NEEDS: our democrazy doesn't mean mob rule or that the "squeaky wheels" get more rights than the vast majority. Quite the opposite: the vast majority are those who hold sway and the democratic principles ensure that. Just as with the US where the Jews and Muslims must DEAL WITH a secular calandar, so too in the State of Israel the Muslims must DEAL WITH a Jewish Calandar. They can go sell or work in the PA or Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, Morrocco, Kuwait, Bharain, Sudan, Somolia, Dubai, Iraq or any other MUSLIM country in the area. It's NOT like Muslims don't have choices! Theyve got a helluva lot more choices than Jews do! 'Nuff said.

Why should Sunday be a day off. With a large Muslim population it makes sense to maintain the current structure with a half day on Friday and full day on Saturday to make up the weekend. Why would you want to imitate the U.S.?

Passing into law both Sunday and Saturday, God's blessed Sabbath day, is a bad idea and one not blessed by God, "six days shall thou do all thy work", and rest on God's Shabbat. Shabbat is a day Israel above everyone else knows is blessed by God and needs to be kept holy. Passing this law serves no ones needs as it does not allow the Jewish people to honor God's commandment, it sanctifies a day, Sunday that God did not sanctify, and it leaves the Islamic people out with no Friday worship time for them, their holy day, again not sanctified by God, and the Jewish day of preporation. Israel, please do not turn away from God's ways and lose your blessing.

How? How is it detrimental? "the initiative would hurt Muslims who pray in Mosques on Fridays, as well as cause it financial damage" Again, I don't understand how... they're not saying alright muslims you work til the end of the day on friday, they're saying sunday would be an additional day of rest.... if you'd like to work or make money on sunday that's your choice. Why act like this is offensive? "I call for strikes and protests" alright, well if you plan your strikes and protests for sunday, that'll be an additional day for you to do so without missing work :D... though I still don't understand why it's problematic... If it had been Wednesday instead of Sunday would it have still been equally offensive?

The Islamists do not rule Israel; it is the home nation of the Jews. If they want the same weekend as we have in the rest of the Western world, it is their right to do so. If the Islamists do not like having a Saturday-Sunday weekend, there are plenty of nations under Sharia law for them to move too.

Muslims all over the world have sunday as a second day. If they don't like it in Israel, they could just take one day off.

Israel is a multi cultural country - and as the guardians and protectors of all Christian heritage sites - it should include Sunday - the day of rest for Christians. If the palestinians want to work on Sunday - fine - go and work in Gaza - they always need help to build rockets and materials of destruction.

Israel is the Jewish homeland. No one is stopping you from working sunday. In fact, this will provide arabs with massive business opportunities, as the vast majority of the population will not be open for business.

Do as Jews do who live in countries other than Israel, where things usually followed a Christian way of life. ......... My parents went to Canada after WW2 where schools centered around Lord's prayer, Christmas concerts, Christmas everything, church bells, Christmas trees everywhere one went, all hockey games and activitiesfor kids and families were on Saturdays. We kept our Jewish traditions privately and went to synagogue. But we fit in and were very very happy to live in a country where we were free to have a life, education, health care, be part of society etc. WE ADAPTED and became a family of educated people who contributed immensely to Canada and the Canadian people. Our family loves Canada and does eveything to contribute, That is what one does in a country that gives you a good life, such as Israel does for you. So just ...shut up and be happy, man. Stop whining and woosing and wimping, and try to contribute. and in the mean time, Check on the facts of your Arab history in ISRAEL and don't listen continually to the lies and hatred of your Knesset reps such as Tibi and Zoubi as they are absolute morons who, in a Canadian government , would have been booed out of existence for their lies and deceit and treason against the very country they represent. And finally, you are always welcome to move to one of the 56 Moslem countries in the world where Moslems rule by death and destruction. Israel is a Jewish country (the only one in the world). It is impossible to generalize from two un-named Arabs on the entire Arab Sector in Israel. The reporter is far from reporting the reality! I believe that many Arabs (as many Jews) would like having Sunday off

And as such, they must accept the democratic decisions made by the Jewish majority - in the same way the accept the democratic decisions made by the majorities in any other non-Muslim country. As #2 says, Muslims in Europe and America do quite well with a Saturday-Sunday weekend. Israel should be no different.

Nobody is saying that people will get Sunday off on religious reasons, thats what Saturday is for Sunday is just a day off work. If the arabs want to work on Sundays let them, it will be good for them because if they want to work on Sunday then can demand extra pay. The country doesn't revolve around the arabs and if they don't like the idea of Sunday being a day off work then fine there are 22 arab states and over 50 muslim ones for them to move to where they will have very loud voices.... no Jews to make life inconvenient for them. The idea of having a full weekend is a good one because as things stand the only day off work which has nothing to do with religion is Yom Hatzmaut. I think most people will appreciate an extra day considering the long hours people work. Also anybody who keeps Shabbat ( not just haredi ) they can't do much on their one day off. If they want to go to the park or the beach with the family they can't just drive down there because they woud be breaking Shabbat but give them Sunday as well they can have a little family time or just enjoy their day off work then they have that oportunity. A full weekend is something thats long overdue in Israel and once the law comes into force if it passes then everybody will learn to live their social and working lives around it.

It doesn't seem to be problem here in the USA. I've never noticed Muslims whining about working Fridays, and, as far as I know Muslims who live here (in the USA) work ALL day on Fridays. If they don't then it's biggest secret here. Now I'm not saying every Muslim in the USA works all day on Friday. What I am saying is they sure seem to, except for a small unnoticed ultra-orthodox group, but again a group I've never seen. But the reality is the Arabs in Israel just want to cause problems, so here is a new one, big deal. Israel can pass any laws they want, if the population...at least most of them, approve...and the new laws cause no physical harm to anybody. Now if those days are declared "days of rest" does that mean all businesses must close? Frankly I don't know. But I don't think so, because I've read articles about businesses that stay open on the Sabbath, ticking off some ultra-orthodox Jewish people. As far as it meaning that Muslims are being "humiliated", as the last sentence of the article states, nonsense! I certainly don't see what one has to do with the other. An Arab teacher remarked: "I won't work on Friday because it is our holy day. We will not allow the Israeli government to put this plan into action because it is detrimental to the Muslim religion." So don't work Friday, why, do they have school on Sundays in Israel? How is it "detrimental" to the Muslim religion?

there is NO comand in the New testament that changes the day of rest that God blessed in the Torah . the day was changed by the curch it self.... so I don't think it is necesary to make a law just to accomodate us christians...

All Israel needs to do is to obey the fourth commandment of Yahuah..Observe rest from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. The current Friday, Saturday weekend is allowing the Torah-obeyers to prepare on Friday and take rest on Saturday. Irrespective of which religions benefit or do not benefit, Israel has to defend ONLY the commands of the Creator for it to be blessed and everyone else who likes to join the Creator will benefit from its holidays. No need to please every man-made religion which are not helpful to humans in any way other than to anger the Creator and bring in destruction...

Christian Arabs and people used to Western culture will have no problem with this. The only problem will be with the Islamists, who don't care about Christians or any culture other than what passes for culture in Sharia states.
