1. HOW I SUM UP PAST PROBLEMS
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (07.14.11)
The evil Arab Supremacist League. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
2. I hope you are right, Mr. Bechor, but your
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.14.11)
article, full of welcome generalizations but lacks facts. Can you help us here? Your thesis seems reasonable to me but you don't give much in terms of specifics.
3. "Professional Palestinian Refugee"
Rachel ,   US   (07.14.11)
Love it. Great way to sum it up!
4. Refugees no Longer
Mortinio ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
What wishful thinking - Islam is still united in it's hate for the Jew and his State. We may have them distracted for a while, but who do you think will come into power in these countries? -Look to Egypt if you need any answers, they are becoming even more anti Israel not less. Your opinion is a pipe dream based on little in the way of facts, and more on wishful thinking and dreaming.
5. another example of right-wing illusion & wishful thinking
Rafi ,   US   (07.14.11)
6. Wishfullthinking
John ,   Monaco   (07.14.11)
my poor friend... anti judaism is a very old sicknes in the muslim world ... if you believe that it is going to vanish in a few weeks ...YOU ARE VERY WRONG
7. Where's the beef?
jonathan ,   portreath   (07.15.11)
A wonderful article regrettably backed up by no corroboration, no links, no examples, no quotes. Until the author comes up with some 'beef' the whole thing has to be a fairy story.
8. True ... But
Pixelated Dwarf ,   USA   (07.15.11)
While it is true that the regimes have and are blaming Israel for most all of their ills, it is also true that the "Professional Refugees" are still teaching hate to anyone who will listen. Being a "Refugee" for 63 years is difficult and maintaining that status is only done by groups that want a hand out (ie land that does not belong to them) or as they are most often called squatters.
9. only clinton, ross and obama care
alexi   (07.15.11)
how many times have we heard this trio mouth empty rubbish about the status quo being unsustainable. In fact, if the us shut up and stayed out, the arabs in the region would trade and not fire the rockets they do to the degree they do now. US and ashton's obnoxious group along with cheri arab blair's husband have empowered a disparate group of arabs to believe they are some nation which they are not and that is why they have no idea of a state. Their idea is to destroy israel and then take handouts. The arab countries hate their guts.
10. The Big Lie
Leon ,   Ottawa, Canada   (07.15.11)
This is about the third or fourth article with the exact same message. I guess if you repeat a lie enough times Zionists will believe it. Most Arabs in the region don't hate Israelis, but rather the occupation of Palestine. If we use this author's analogy, the Arabs will 'hate' Israel again because Israel will launch Cast Lead II or a third 'defensive' Lebanon soon. Israel survives on launching 'defensive' wars because it is the only way they know how to deal with all "Arabs."
11. #5 - another example of an American speaking from ignorance
William ,   Israel   (07.15.11)
Maybe you should actually meet with Arab and speak to them personally. Over the past several years, Israel hosted groups of Arab women from the UK, Tunisia, and other places. They were interviewed by an Israeli paper (Jpost, I believe) and cited how shocked they were when they arrived. They fully expected to see hell: Arabs humiliated and subjugated in the streets, broken infrastructure, callous people, violence on every corner - basically, Iraq. and they didn't. They saw a calm, mature society, equality so common that no one paid attention to it anymore, and a modern State. They said they were taught the exact opposite about Israel, and would take these new insights back home with them. What will come of it is anyone's guess but there are Arabs like that which Guy cited. You're just too lazy to find them, or too biased to believe them.
12. #7 - Noodle around The Israel Project website
William ,   Israel   (07.15.11)
It's an organization which helps get balanced information about Israel into the hands of the media, Western and Arab alike. The have set up a website some time ago, in Arabic, and cited a huge increase of Arabs, especially from surrounding States, interested in learning more about Israel and their perspective. theisraelproject.org
13. Excellent Analysis
Owen Meldy ,   Los Angeles, USA   (07.15.11)
Very true. Now, how can Israel connect with the current of events in the ME to form bonds with the Arabs? Be imaginative. Be audacious. EG, cooperative businesses, student exchanges, tours for Arabs etc.
14. Palestinian Refugees
nadya ,   CA., US   (07.15.11)
I agree with Mr. Bechor that the Israel/Palestinian situation is not #1on the Arab agenda, but it's still among the top 3. You forget that they all speak the same language, many have access to the internet and satellite broadcasting, and they constantly converse. In the U.S. when you go to a multi-cultural market all the newpapers are lined-up and given for free. We have coffee and tea cafes with hookas, all sharing the same information regarding their country of origin. I'd say 99% are not fond of Israel and their treatment of the Palestinians
15. Don't be so complacent.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.15.11)
The Pan-Arab or Arab Nationalist movement exemplified by Nasser is being replaced by an even more virulent ideology - Islamism. It is the Muslim Brotherhood & similar movements that are gaining power in the region. They're even more anti-Semitic than the old regimes. Left wing parties, including the Facebook crowd, are their allies. The Middle-East doesn't change. If anything, Islamic gov't.'s will be more aggressive, have more economic mismanagement & corruption, & use the ''external enemy'' tactic to distract from their failures.
16. Refugees Care About Themselves!
Nour ,   One-State   (07.15.11)
And we number 5 million. We aren't going anywhere, but Palestine - our beloved country and homeland from Jordan to The Mediterranean.
17. Future of France, England and Arabs
Nir ,   Tel Aviv   (07.15.11)
Since the beggining of Islamist revolutions in January the FUTURE looks as follows: If Islamists will take power in Tripoly. Then the new gov't will start teror in EU, less in US. It will be easy to get to France and England. Egypt and other economies will totally collaps (that what the Islamist hope for). So, the terror will follow after several million Arabs come to EU. Or you thing the Democracy in Egypt will be better than, say, in Greece :) which is thousand years behind Greece.
18. No. 14 Nadya
NYC Girl   (07.15.11)
Contrary to what you think, most Arabs have no use for the Palestinians...which is why there are still refugee camps in countries like Lebanon and Syria where Palestinians are denied citizenship regardless of how long they've lived there. In fact, the only time the Arab countries will coalesce around this issue is when they need to deflect the attention of their citizens away from the brutality of their own despotic regimes by blaming the Arab world's problems on Israel. It's a time-honored tradition...and the biggest scam going.
19. Israel and her neighbours
Dik ,   Spijkenisse Holland   (07.15.11)
Terry, you hit the nail on the head. Unless the Islam changes her behaviour against infidels, there will always be trouble. And your country is in the frontline. But certainly the uproar in the Islamic world can be a benefit for you because it is the youth taken the streets. We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. Shalom from Holland
20. Dont Worry,Europe and LeftWing wont let Arabs forget Palli's
Tevye ,   Chelm   (07.15.11)
They are there to remind them, that no matterhow much those Arabs themselves suffer of hunger and torture under their regimes in their own countries, they should forget all about that and fight for the TRUE REAL injustice in this world: Israel "occupying" "Palestinan" land in Israel ( /Palestine )...
21. No 10 Leon - go and learn some real facts and history
Emma ,   London   (07.15.11)
Leon you seem to be confused and also incredibly ignorant of history. There is no sovereign state called Palestine nor has there every been. The territories known as the West Bank and Gaza were annexed by Egypt and Jordan the the people there who fled the 1948 War at their leaders' behest, were ruled by those countries and kept in abject poverty. In 1967 Egypt and Jordan declared a war of annihilation on Israel but unfortunately for them they lost. Israel offered to give these territories back but neither Egypt nor Jordan wanted them. Telling lies that become facts? Your friends are absolute masters at that, they have obviously managed to persuade people like you that there once was a sovereign state called Palestine which had Jerusalem as its capital. Incidentally, Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Koran once and nor has it ever been the capital of any Arab nation even when Jordan illegally annexed it in 1948. The only reason the Arabs bang on about it, is because they know how important it is to the Jews (in whose bible it is mentioned over 600 times). Another big lie perpertrated by your lying friends is that there is a humanitrian crisis in Gaza. There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza where they have just opened a second luxury shopping mall, luxury hotels and restaurants. You can find images of these on youtube, type in Gaza, the world's biggest prison? You will be amazed at what you see. According to the World Health Organisation, obesity levels among the West Bank and Gaza populations rank number 8 in their table, ahead of the UK and Israel and only two places behind the USA. Look that up as well. Infant mortality rates are low, the percentage of the population liviing below the poverty line is lower than that in Washington DC. 6,000 tons of goods are transferred daily by Israel into Gaza (and this is driven by what the Gazans ask for) while in return they fire rockets on Israeli civilians. It doen't sound like much of a humanitarian crisis unlike the real one unfolding in the Horn of Africa.
22. #10 Leon, you've got distorted logic..
Ted ,   UK   (07.15.11)
I wonder how do you explain that for almost 20 years (48-67) when Israel wasn't occupying the "territories" there were non-stop cross border attacks from both the west bank and Gaza ? and yes the 67 war was a defensive war..as well as following campaigns. I wonder how would the canadians react if they had a neighbour raining rockets daily on them, as well as openly declaring that you don't have a right to live in Ottawa, and should return to wherever your ancestors came from..
23. To: No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.15.11)
What "treatment?" Sweetie, the Arabs have lost six wars. They do not get to dictate the terms of surrender, particularly in light of the fact that they instigated all six wars. The ersatz "Palestinians" are a conquered people. They rate all the consideration that Germany received following World War II. Which is to say -- nothing. They get whatever crumbs Israel may or may not generously decide to toss their way. The ersatz "Palestinians" are lucky Israe has not yet thrown their sorry asses out of Israel. That's coming, though. You know -- the way the Czechs tosses out the Germans, the Poles, Russians and Rumanians tossed out the Germans, and the way the Yugoslavians tossed out the Italians folloowing World War II. Hey. War is hell. The Arabs have started SIX. All of them won by Israel. "Treatment," indeed. Get a grip, chica. Getting a GED and some college education might help. Or you can stick to cleaning toilets. Your choice.
24. Good News For Israel !!!!!
sohaib ,   Scotland   (07.15.11)
"Hence, a whole new generation is bypassing the traditional media and meeting the real Israel via Facebook. Millions of Arabs are looking for materials that have been concealed from them, and there is great curiosity. Now it isn’t Israel coming to them, but they are coming to Israel. This phenomenon is growing too." what a non sense Mr Guy this is precisely why there is no good news for israel the new generation know too well the tirany that is hapening towards the Palestinians and the fact that they are accessing more independnet material on the internet (not the corporations Such as the murdoch Empire) means that more willing to make a change, first in their countries than at the international stage.
25. Typical out-of-touch racist Israeli perspective. No surprise
BechorOutOfTouch ,   New York, USA   (07.15.11)
26. #23 odious sentiments
London guy ,   London   (07.15.11)
Mr Bechor's thesis is absolute rubbish. Wishful thinking. The emperor's new clothes. You can wish the Palestinians away but, habib qalbi, they are not made of magic dust and will not simply disappear. Ms Sarah's tone of voice to her Palestinian interlocutor is one very good example of why peace is so hard to find. When the Zionists sneer, use language dripping with racial hatred, resort to pathetic triumphalism, and when Ms Sarah uses the expression "their sorry asses" rather than the noun Palestinians or the pronoun "them", it only indicates one thing: the sort of racial supremacism, or ethnic supremacism, or religious supremacism which has plunged the region into darkness for decades. I don't really think that telling an intelligent person (nadya in CA) who wrote an intelligent comment to "stick to cleaning toilets" is any way to hold a conversation. And you wonder why knee-jerk right-wing fascio-Zionist dialogue is resented!!
27. #16 - right now, the best you can hope for is Ramallah
William ,   Israel   (07.15.11)
All 5 million of you retards, in a giant high rise, with a clear view of Arafat's grave. Better get moving, I hear they're going fast thanks to abuses of the "refugees" at the hands of Lebanese, Gulf Arabs, and Jordanian Bedouins.
28. CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.15.11)
I don't really agree, or at least think your a bit premature. First, in all the protests (all of them) there was plenty of anti-Israel feelings to go around. The Egyptians were talking about repealing the peace treaty. But they do have the internet (where there is plenty of Israel hate) although they do have access to other side of the story if they are willing to look. Plus Israel has 5 decades hate and anti-Israel propaganda to deal with. Remember your asking people to disregard everything they were raised with, that all their friends and family believe. You need, in a sense, millions of Thomas Jefferson. He came to the conclusion as a slave owner, whose father, mother, cousins, friends all believed it was OK to own people. Yet among that climate came to the conclusion it was wrong. That is what's needed here, the Arabs to reject what their father, mother, brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends all believe. What they learned in school, the Mosque and all TV, radio and newspapers, and what they said, their whole lives. No easy task. Now it did help Israel that all the Arab leaders tried to blame Israel. Your right, at one time all the fools would have believed it. This time they were insulted by it. Nobody likes to feel like they are being played for a fool. That they can be so easily manipulated by their leaders. Now comes the next step, rejection of those ideas, and we are not there yet.
29. #14; nadya, JUST THE FACTS
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.15.11)
Your phrasing was very interesting, and I quote: "all sharing the same information regarding their country of origin" But their country of origin was Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and all the surrounding countries by Israel. What did the Arab leaders say themselves about the term "Palestinian" or "Palestine", before it became so politicized??? "There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented. There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria. 'Palestine' is alien to us. It is the Zionists who introduced it". - Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, Syrian Arab leader to British Peel Commission, 1937 - "There is no such thing as Palestine in history, absolutely not". - Professor Philip Hitti, Arab historian, 1946 - "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria". - Representant of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations, 1956 - "There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity... yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian state is a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel". - Zuhair Muhsin, military commander of the PLO and member of the PLO Executive Council 1977- nadya, what were you saying about origin????? CASE CLOSED
30. #14 nadya
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (07.15.11)
When the so called "Palestinians" are on the top 3 of the Arab agenda - why is all the welfare for them coming from Western countries? The rich Arab nations do not give a damn about their "Palestinian" brethren.
