Hi Peter, to answer you two questions: 1. There are no typical Jewish features, per se. In Germany we now have many different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. Also people with "dark complexion". I think they would not feel any different than I felt when I lived in Korea. I looked different. People looked at me, because I looked different. But not because they did not like me. Just because I was something "unusual". The group of American Jews (also some Iranian Jews among them) did not feel "uneasy" in Germany. 2. There are like, 30 German postdocs and students just at one of the universities here in Israel. You can hear German spoken pretty much every day on campus. Plus there are plenty of Israelis who live in Berlin. I think the two countries are already pretty close.
