31. The "proportional" response
shlomo ,   USA   (08.21.11)
Israel is foolishly using precision strikes and expensive weapons. What Israel needs to do is build hundreds of thousand of Grad type unguided rockets and multi-launch vehicles for these. When a single rocket from Gaza is launched Israel should send 1000 towards the launch site. We can say to the world that we are using the same weapons as they are and thus it is a proportional response.
32. syria must be happy . they made a smoke screen .
rachel ,   usa   (08.21.11)
33. #25, no they were Thai workers
Danny   (08.21.11)
Very violent those thais....
34. Possible escalation? Heavy price?
Israeli 2   (08.21.11)
What does all that mean? Possible means maybe? Heavy means dropping more bombs and killing two or three leaders? Just turn Gaza leAZA and level it into a parking lot.
35. best defense : a devastating offense
moshe ,   Tivon   (08.21.11)
Of course Israel must defend itself. In the case of ham the best defense is a devastating offense. However, the Israeli government and the IDF must be careful to keep a reserve of miltary resources available to check hiz in Lebanon, to maintain watch on Iran, as well as other very serious threats. The pals of Gaza know this, so Israelis citizens must suffer and be killed, while the proper response is carefully planned...and there WILL BE a response. moshe
36. Show them how States interact...
Aaron ,   Australia   (08.21.11)
With neighbouring States who fire rockets at them. Pound the road junctions with heavy artillery (to get rid of rocket teams & improvised devices) then surround the cities. Copy what was done in Iraq, give everyone a week to get out of the cities, detain/arrest and question every male >16 (and anyone else who tests positive to explosive/powder residue or gun oil). Then pound the cities to rubble and enter with light & mechanized infantry. More people have died in the last 20 years than would have died in one full assault. Pull the plaster/bandaid off quick and it does less damage in the long term.
37. Don't talk about it, do it.
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (08.21.11)
38. To The Ministers. Break The Back of Terror Group.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (08.21.11)
Quote :” increasing the pace of assassinations of terror group leaders.” Except Haniya and Zahar, the leaders below them should be eliminated one by one. In that way the Gazans will feel that is not profitable to be part of a terror group. BTW there should be NO ground operation into the Strip. Why not ? Because the above action is sufficient to break the back of the terror groups.
39. To Jack #9. How To Respond.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (08.21.11)
You say :” then carpet-bomb all of Gaza”. I don’t think that’s a good idea. The common Gaza people should NOT be killed. Except Haniya and Zahar, the leaders of Hamas and its off-shoots should be eliminated one by one. That’s how to go about this problem of gun attacks and rocket attacks aimed at Israelis.
40. The whole world agrees that the Hamas is a terror org...
Jonathan   (08.21.11)
So what are people waiting for...
41. #31
Alexandre Chinovich   (08.21.11)
Those bullheads who repeats just one expression "unproportional response" have no idea of what a proportion is. They don't know that 'proportional' does not mean 'equal'.There are 1.5 milliard Arabs and other Muslims hating Israel and Jews. How many Gazans must we kill to set a fair proportion?
42. Israel Must Escalate Responses
Isaac ,   Springfield USA   (08.21.11)
Since THEY have escalated their terror and rocket attacks on Israeli towns, IT IS TIME for Israel to raise the level of responses on Gaza. The Arab states undoubtedly expect that kind of response. In spite of the anti-Israel front of the Arab league, they DO NOT LIKE THE Palestinian gangs (e.g., PRC, IJ, etc.). Everyone expects s STRONG RESPONSE from Israel and it MUST TAKE PLACE. However, Israel should precede such a response by calling tens of thousands of Gaza residents to warn them to either evacuate potential target zones or stay indoors during a designated period. Israel has done that in past operations both in Gaza and southern Lebanon. Such warnings are unprecedented in the history of warfare and it clearly shows that Israel has no intentions of harming civilian populations.
43. eporue eurabia - gaza ordered the attack !
Daniela   (08.21.11)
so gaza pay the price
44. Hamas might "pay a heavy price" ...
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.21.11)
... but the UN always rewards them for it and Hamas knows that.
45. Finish the Job. But keep an eye on the north.
Froike ,   Arlington Va   (08.21.11)
1) Take out terrorist leaders 2) Take out their important buildings 3) give the area a good artilery thrashing and and a pounding. Let them feel it.
46. Re: Lede of article
Gideon Reader ,   Travelin'   (08.21.11)
So regardless of political philosophy, scope or locus; the tactic of a "PRICETAG" is an effective tool.
47. reprisal : #13
Yankelev, PhD, Msc' ,   Palm Beach USA   (08.21.11)
Right on, Nora, Just as a dog cannot be "prosecuted" for his murderous barking, the owner can be and should be. In this case the "owner" is the cowardly, treasonous Israeli government, who should bear full responsibility for its impotent "efforts" and failure to protect Israeli lives and dignity.
