31. haredi rabbis know....
fiona ,   jerusalem   (08.23.11)
I think the rabbis are absolutely correct in what they are saying. The lack of torah study in this country is shocking, and we should open more and more and more yeshivot all over the land in which young and old can pray and keep me and my family safe and warm and looked after. And I don't mind my taxes going to pay for all this study, and I will work hard to keep the rabbis and their followers clean and well fed so they can focus on keeping our country safe and all the secular children out of harms way. The rabbis do a fine job, and they should be proud of what they have achieved in Israel.........a huge population of unemployable unproductive people, and perpetuation of poverty. Well done. And on top of that they now tell us what to think, believe and how to defend ourselves? Make a wall of all the Haredim....a human chain all along the Egyptian border....that might work. How offensive towards fellow Jews can so called educated people become.
32. Nonsense!
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.23.11)
The terrorist attacks were false flag operations instigated by the government to get protesters for justice off the streets. There is a total news blackout of Israelis protesting against the high taxes, low incomes, expensive rents and low quality of living. And what is the Rothschilds Team and the govenment's answer to these social problems? Staged Terrorist attacks! That's how much the Illuminati love their people.
33. #9&7 and #11
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.23.11)
#9&7 Read the article. He's blaming the closing of Yeshivot for holidays, not the victims of the attack. #11 in the time of the Holocaust there was a LOT less torah study than there is now, and there was plenty of assimilation.
34. BY COMMON SECULAR TOLERANT JEW THINKING
.....DACON9   (08.23.11)
ISRAEL AND JEWS SHOULD NOT BE HERE. NOT ONE single JEW should be alive........ but ''WE ARE HERE'' 6 MILLION JEWS LIVED THROUGH THE HOLOCAUST Millions lived through the spanish xtian inquisitions. JEWS ARE HERE,FEW IN NUMBERS exactly what is written. JEWS that believe, WILL SURVIVE AND PREVAIL, exactly as written. The jews that stayed in egypt and did not go with MOSES, they perished. SO THOSE THAT WALK WITH TOLERANCE LIBERALISM SECULARISM AND MODERNITY INTERFAITH DINNERS MARRIGES AND OTHER PERVERSIONS.... the elevator 'down' is on the left side.
35. Ridiculous.
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.23.11)
The article is totally ridiculous and written against the national interest. The article's real purpose is to stir up hatred between the religious and non religious.
36. Rabbis are Not Prophets
Sam ,   USA   (08.23.11)
When Rabbis start remembering that they are interpreters of law and not prophets, perhaps Orthodox judaism will once again gain the respect of the people.....Until then, we all have to suffer the impact of Rabbis who somehow think they can talk to god
37. just lol.
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.23.11)
38. superstitious nonsense
nadav   (08.23.11)
i can't believe i live in the 21st century in a free, democratic country of educated people and hear this kind of medieval foolishness! these people should be ashamed of themselves and the State should ban their educational institutions if this is the kind of nonsense they are teaching children!
39. ORA , yes they have the right to think
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.23.11)
But NOT the right to HURT survivors , or children of the murdered . They have to hold their ideas for themselve . We are talking about 9 , NINE , victims . There were also "rabbanim" who said that the Shoah was because of people leavinbg religion , or because of reformed Judaism , and so on .
40. The Rabbi s complaints was not ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.11)
against the secular people ,but against the Tora students that stopped learning during the vacation period,so putting Israel in danger.
41. 18 Dear Mr.Sagi
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.23.11)
Your thoughts are ugly and your words even more so. I wish you to understand that you are SO wrong insulting Rabbis ,and to find peace of mind and happiness.
42. 15 Michael You are just competing..

44. Sure, and u know what make hair grow on your palms
SG ,   USA   (08.23.11)
45.  # 41 ORA
Sagi   (08.23.11)
Thank you Ora. I have no doubt whatsoever that you are a very genuine and loving person. I shall continue to insult Rabbis for one reason and one reason only. They insult me, not only me but all of our People and Nation. they do this because of their outlandish behaviour and unreasonable demands. A "sin" in my book is one thing and one thing only, Man's inhumanity to his fellow being. All the rest is bunkum.
46. Jewish knowledge of the Divine
Ehai ,   London, England   (08.23.11)
With religious leaders like these Lithuanian extraction Haredi our efforts to convince radical militant Islamic leaders are undermined. If the State of Israel intends to continue giving special and preferential financial assistance to Haredi groups like these there must be a radical change in the conditions attached to it. I propose that legislation be introduced to regulate the content of the study curriculum they maintain. There has to be a certain measure of compulsory curriculum and this must include Archaeology. Especially archaeology from Israeli archaeologists. The Israeli universities with archaeology faculties should be involved in formulating the material to be included in the compulsory national curriculum. If we are not all clued-in with such general knowledge our understanding of the difference between fact and fiction in the Torah is dangerously compromised. Where are we standing thus! We are standing inside a social and political structure that has crumbling foundations. Our knowledge of the history of the Divine Will of Ha Shem must not be limited to Torah scrolls. As well as this our moral conviction to prophesy about GOD’s present and future regard for Israel must be formulated in reason and conscience that has the proper epistemological science behind it. When Israel is strong in a general knowledge of the facts as well as the fictions in Torah scrolls we will be strong enough to defeat our national enemies through non-violent struggle. I am a qualified archaeologist. I am a Jew. I say the rabbis described in this report are wrong, delusional, misguided and a moral threat to the integrity and unity of the people of Israel. It is time for the Kenesset to talk about Torah study in a modern context.
47. Sick rabbis
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (08.23.11)
it's about time these sicko rabbis stopped trying to make out that we, the secular, are the cause of everything bad that happens to us as a nation. They are no better than ay other Israeli, but they seem to think that by virtue of their being religious, they can tell us how to lead our lives. Funny, you only have to read/look/listen to the news lately to see who the real sickos are, with their cults that promote polygamy and mental, physical and sexual abuse of children. When they become an active part of the country's work force, when they do military duty, when they stop sponging off the state, then maybe they can make some suggestions.
48. Sorry Reb but....
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (08.23.11)
It is the lack of killing and maiming the enemy with sufficient dilligence and ardor, at a pace that would have them dead and mouldering faster than they could put new robotic morons into the field operations. Reading Torah may be desired for those that desire reading Torah, but it is NOT a replacement for LOTS and LOTA of high explosives from the air, armor, and big guns delivered all day every day until it sinks in that it will not stop until the bad Guys are either shtum or dead. Whichever comes first.
49. the jewish world/people etc.
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankind-land etc.   (08.23.11)
"escalation due to lack of torah-studies"". everybody may/ can have her or his opinion about that particular sentence/expression. everybody can also better more to study in peace, for the benefit of/for the jewish people and for/of the rest of the people of humanity/mankind.
50. Manoj #19: Read Terry #4
Steve   (08.23.11)
Abraham, Moses and David "lived" by their faith. Studying Torah is good if you intend to live by and act according to it. Terry wrote: "Sin is the treaty with Egypt; it was a sin to cede the Sinai. The Oslo Accords should be counted as a sin. The disengagement from Gaza was most certainly a sin...." Abraham, Moses and David knew / know these things. Why don't the rabbis?
51.  # 48 Now then Gideon
Sagi   (08.23.11)
you underestimate the power of the "Almighty". If our brigades were to join battle equipped with beards, prayer shawls, leather straps and cats tails wrapped around their headgear we would undoubtedly win every battle hands down and with no casualties. All other "weapons" would become redundant.
52. No it is the Emanuel people
Lioness ,   israel   (08.23.11)
They have taken over all the Afikim buses and the people of Ginot either have to wait for a bus that never turns up or late, or absolutely filfy dirty like a garbage bin on wheels. The Afikim bus service does NOTgive a service to Karnei Shomron because the people of Emanuel have hijacked it! That is why we have trouble!!!!
53. #42 ORA
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.23.11)
You may accuse me of cannibalism, but you have nothing to fear, for to me you are both inedibleand tasteless
54. you pray bad things happen you dont pray bad things happen

55. Too much Tarah Studies led to attacks
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (08.23.11)
The Talmud tells us, too much torah study and neglect of wordly matters is avoda zara. If the Charedi did not overdo Torah study to the extent of avoiding army service, sending their wives to work, and not earning their bread by the sweat of their brows. We'd have more soldiers in IDF , better deterence and much less likelihood of such dastardly attacks on us. There is much in Rav Kook's Z"L teaching to benefit our delinquent Charedi bretheren and help them leave the sect mentality and to join with Am Yisrael.
56. Rabbis: Lack of Torah?
Nili   (08.23.11)
Somewhere I read that baseless hatred caused us a lot of trouble. Maybe the good rabbis should teach their flock not to throw stones and spit on their fellow Jews. The secular Jews may need to give you space for your studies, but you (As Rabbis) should know that hatred towards your fellow Jews is not a very holy action.
57. It is not studying but keeping Torah....
Eliyahu Konn ,   Powell, OH   (08.23.11)
That is the problem. One side studies endlessly but keeps European/medieval non-Torah traditions and the other breaks Shabbat, taharah hamishpacha, and kashrut. And both sides think their genetics trump Torah. But in between their are those that would and do keep logical halakha. Don't blame the rabbi's if you don't keep Torah. None of us have a right to the land if we don't keep Torah.
58. They Are Failing Us Again
Yudi ,   Los Angeles, CA   (08.23.11)
The Rabbis are failing us again. Once more, they can not handle the magnitude of the mantle of the rabbinate. G-d is a kind and merciful G-d. G-d does not murder innocent Jews because some Yeshiva boys didn't study Torah as much as they should. This is not a Jewish concept. In fact, there are more Yeshivas today than ever before in Jewish history. Unfortunately, when it comes to other mitzvos, like actually GOING TO WAR WITH ISLAM, which G-d commands us to do, you'd be hard-pressed to find many rabbonim promoting this, shouting about this, making their voice heard.
