61. Is Erdogan seeking war with Israel?
leo ,   usa   (09.08.11)
I hope Turks will wise up in time and do something with this ...
62. NATO must call a meeting to suspend Turkey
GZLives   (09.08.11)
63. I See A Lot Of Cocky Talk
Nite Owl ,   In A City   (09.08.11)
From a country that couldn't even handle Hezbollah. Sounds like whistling past the graveyard to me. What next, you fire your nukes and they fire theirs? And all of this could have been avoided with a simple apology but apparently, that was too much to ask.
64. Who reads the ZOHAR?
Israeli 2   (09.08.11)
Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai wrote that many ships will amass at Israeli shores during the time of Gog and Magog...but none will harm Israel.
65. #35 isever so CORRECT!
Israeli 2   (09.08.11)
66. shitty destiny Mr. Erdogan!
David Fakheri ,   Los Angles   (09.08.11)
It seems that Erdogan hasn't learn nothing from the Middle east history particularly the last 100 years and specially the last 63 years . May he has leaned but easily forgot what has been the shitty final destiny for Abdul Naser, Malek Hosain, Assad the father, Shokeiry, Arafat, Saddam ,Gaddafi, and what a disaster they've caused to their nations for their stupidity that Erdogan wants to experience those again on himself and on his miserable nation
67. turkish warshops
jan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.08.11)
great idea!!! and Israel will confiscate the warships and then we will add them to Israeli arsenal!!!!!Or we will just blow them up at sea!!!!!
68. you guys are not human beings
irem ,   istanbul   (09.08.11)
how could you possibly support this inhuman blockade? And how do you explain the killing of 9 civilians from a close range even though they were 72 miles away from the coast? Israel only does what the UN says if she likes it. Remember the killing of children in the UN school in Gaza!?
69. Warship escort
Neal Rothner ,   Hashmonaim, Israel   (09.08.11)
They might have be careful not to hit a mine.
70. war
mehrdad ,   germany   (09.08.11)
turkish warships on route to gaza? that means war with all consequences for turkey. say bye bye to turkey-US-Eu relations and NATO membership. ""der führer" erdogan is mentaly ill and brings a whole country in a dangerous situation.
71. warships
Sam M ,   UK   (09.08.11)
This one will go down to the wire! There is no way Israel can allow turkey to break a legal blockade and open the floodgates to the terrorist regime in gaza so one solution is a 'face saving arrangement' whereby Israel would inspect the 'aid vessels' before they docked in gaza so that erdogan who is obviously mentally unstable can have his moment of glory. However turkey looks likely to refuse in which case Israel will have to consider other options! If erdogan has miscalculated here then the turks could be in for one hell of a suprise and the turks could be made to look very stupid (though many would say they already do) Erdogan's desparation to ingratiate himself with the arabs is truly pathetic. Pride comes before a fall and this turkish government is puffed up like a peacock!
72. Golda Meir
Yitzhak ,   israel   (09.08.11)
Much has been made of the relative strength of Turkey's armed forces as compared to those of Israel. The Turkish government, however, should bear in mind the words of Golda Meir (z``l)..."The Egyptians could run to Egypt, the Syrians into Syria. The only place we could run was into the sea, and before we did that we might as well fight". There is no existential threat hanging above the people of Turkey like the proverbial Sword of Damocles. They will find, therefore, that Tsahal will fight to the death to protect Israel. Stopping this insanity now should be the priority of those Turks who wish to live in peace. Bloodshed can be avoided. But the Turkish people has to realise (and make sure their government realises this, too) that the Jewish state is here to stay. This is our land, our country and we shall live here whatever the nations try to tell us. Israel is no threat whatsoever to those who accept its existence and who seek to live in peace with it. Those who seek to cross it, are doomed to the same fate as every other civilisation that has tried to destroy the Jewish people.
73. You've thrown down the challenge
Cameron ,   USA   (09.08.11)
Now you've to to back it up. This will be interesting. The Israelis are weary of your games, and would dearly like to teach you a Lepanto lesson.
74. #45 - this is the desperate action...
William ,   Israel   (09.08.11)
of terrorist thugs who lost the legal and public opinion battle - one they thought was a slam dunk. Turkey acknowledges the UN report and claims it's wrong, so they want to take this to the ICC, which they're welcome to do except: 1) Israel isn't a signatory and neither is the faux entity of Palestine, and 2) they will find other distractions on the way in order to make Israel (and the world) bow down to them. The threat to use war ships is just one.
75. #45 - many groups already tried to sue Israel over flotilla
William ,   Israel   (09.08.11)
We have Kuwait who had diplomats on board, we have NGOs on behalf of Turks on board, and we have "Palestinian" groups who tried to sue on behalf of flotilla "activists". This began immediately after the Mavi Marmara was intercepted. ALL of them were either rejected by the courts or withdrawn. Kuwait was advised to pullback lest Israel won and was awarded millions in fees.
76. Erdogan
nycer ,   New York, NY   (09.08.11)
He is beginning to sound like a complete nut. Too bad he leads a country.
77. Erdogan's threat
DEB ,   USA Rockville MD   (09.08.11)
Erdogan's concern about Turkey's "honor" (actually, wisdom/integrity) stems from his failure to place controls on the activists to have kept them from sailing in the first place. His most recent wild threat comes close to an act of war. A small volley of conventional missiles or perhaps a small nuke on his "fleet" would focus his attention on Israel's sovereign rights in the matter. Isn't it about time Turkey's military stepped in to rid the country of this increasingly Islamic, irrational rule?
78. 46
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.08.11)
Israel can take on any and all comers. Pity to see y ou get your hopes so high because you are going to be very dissapointed. Only a fool underestimates Israel.
79. Nite Owl
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.09.11)
Try not asking for something stupid.
80. And bring in both Iran's and Syria's navies...
Batman ,   Gotham city   (09.08.11)
... so they can both hit the bottom of the sea with yours in 2 NY seconds...
81. to graczek
Al ,   Athens, Greece   (09.09.11)
Greece will shurly play a role (specially navy & airforce) vs Turkey in case of any conflict... we have been dealing with turks for many years here in Greece, and while one part is pro military the other is islamist but both are super nationalists, and that wil allways cause problems to the region!
82. A self-defeating provocation
Morris ,   Clichy, France   (09.09.11)
Militarily accompanying vessels trying to break a blockade would constitute an act of war, as the maritime blockade of Gaza is legal as acknowledged by the UN. An inconceivable move from a NATO member. Belligerent Turkey has definitely lost all chances to be accepted into the EU, and could well be expelled from NATO. After Iran, Turkey has shown the West that it cannot trust a Muslim state: there is no room for Islam in the West. Turkey's belligerent moves are mindless as well: a nuclear-armed country cannot be defeated. Turkey does not possess a nuclear arsenal...
83. To: RC at No. 57
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.09.11)
Thank you for your kind words. Earthquakes .... hurricanes .... tenth anniversary of September 11 .... New York isn't what it used to be!
84. To No. 63, Night Owl
New Yorker ,   U.S.A.   (09.09.11)
You are deluded. Israeli military could have annihilated Hizbollah along with the entire state of Lebanon in no time but were not allowed to do so by the "international community". So things were left to stand more or less where they were prior to the open conflict because Lebanon still can be taken care of at any time without posing an existential threat to Israel. A military conflict with Turkey would be a different matter altogether. Turkey with her army is no Lebanon, stakes would be higher. Different types of weaponry and methods would be used. Israel will not be in the position to hold back and therefore strike with full force. How do you know what's in Israel's arsenal to be used against a country such as Turkey if her Mussolini or Hitler wannabe oversteps the limits a bit too far?
85. The New Nasser 2011
Dallas ,   Canada   (09.09.11)
Headed by a regime more radical than a bunch of radical activists. Turkey, the world is cringing in embarrassment for you. This is no way to run a country! It won't work out well for you!
86. Bloggers in Fear
Notin-yahoo ,   tel aviv, Ysrael   (09.09.11)
For the first time, I can see unbridled fear in all the talkbacks. Yes, Turkey has the second largest military in NATO; Yes, Turkey is not Hamas or Hezbullah; Yes, Turkey is not Syria nor Iraq; but, all we have to do is say we are sorry for killing 9 Turkish citizens in international waters!? Otherwise, we will start a war with a country that has the same military capacity we do? Is this even debatable? Listen people, NATO or the USA will not expend their treasury for this, especially, when their economies are on the verge of collapse. To the Turks, I hereby apologize for the senseless killing of your people. Please forgive us. I hope my sorrow is enough to avert a self-inflicted overkill!
87. #46 Talk about delusional!!
Jayjay ,   Israel   (09.09.11)
You are as crazy as Erdogan!
88. to Lev
Al ,   Athens, Greece   (09.09.11)
Not to forget the hunderds of thousands civillian, Greeks, Cypriots, and Syrians, that the Turks killed for sport the last 90 years...
89. Al Athens no 81
Christian citizen ,   who support Israel   (09.09.11)
If there wil be a war between Turkey & Israel, hopefully Greece and other nation who lost territories to the Turks, should join in the war,and most probably they will get their land back from Turkey. VIVA to Israe,Greece,Armenia,Kurds.
90. aggressive neighbourhood
alexi   (09.09.11)
with uncertainties about iran, egypt, syria and now turkey, aside from the usual terror groups.israel has to have its best at defence. Vilnai is fine at homeland, yaalon is good in the security cabinet,a hronovitch is good at internal security. Barak is no good at defence, he is not up to it, he is in over his head, his predictions are wrong most of the time and he is a poor land general. Install Yaalon at defence, retire barak, bring back galant to back up gantz and bring in eitam. Don'tbe an idiot, barak is a disaster at defence form since his chief of staff days.
