61. Re 54. Turkey is just a Chicken
dennis ,   London   (09.12.11)
Ray thats a real sensible comment! not, but typical for far right US nutjobs, have you considered the very real fact that Turkey may nuke them right back with the vast amount of US Nato nukes that are stockpiled on their soil, please get a life I get weary of clueless keyboard warriors who shout kill kill kill but be one of the first to turn and run in the face of confrontation.
62. #24 "Steve Smith">
HaifaGuy   (09.12.11)
"Even hardcore supporters of Israel like myself..." - this is how he starts. "I mean come on, what century are you gorillas living in?" - this is how he ends. Listen, Steve, why don't you save us your B(D)S and change your nick back to Mahmood Abu Sharmoot? No-one is buying your hummus here, Pal (bun indended)))))
63. 48, Turks and Palestiniens can live together
me ,   somewhere   (09.11.11)
Turky has the size of germany+france. so i'm sure there is enough space.
64. If you kill people in open seas.........
Israel Supporter ,   Somewhere Out There   (09.12.11)
Is it alright to kill people from the air like Turkey is doing to the Kurds,Killing them on the ground in Turkey and killing them from the air in Iraq. Hypocrites....Lieberman is a fool and Erdogan is a Jackass........
65. Lieberman
Josh Finkelstein ,   Usa   (09.12.11)
Please read lieberman s biography .he was indicted on corruption charges.money embezzlement .He beat up a child in revenge for his son. What do you expect from a Russian immigrant who lived in stalin 's era? Avigdor is going to cause irreparable damages to the Jewish state. It is bibi mistake ,had to give Lieberman anything he wanted to have a majority coalition.
66. No.24 Ray, the Nuke guy!
Andrew Grantelli ,   Pittsburgh, PA   (09.12.11)
Check your history, Ray. Turkey does not bluff and it is sitting on a very large pile of American made nuclear arsenal itself.
67. #8 - who needs fair-weather friends?
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
Stuff it, Dennis. People who sit on the sidelines waiting to see who the winner is before joining are only parasites. Go support Turkey or whomever else you choose, as I'm sure it will change day by day. As for "fomenting problems", even before the issues today with Turkey, Turkey's Islamists were supporting Hamas the terrorist group while playing the double agent by being Israel's friend. We are aware of the changing aire in the region - one where the people demand democracy and the old guard frantically Israel to change the people's focus. It's been an old story for decades. In Israel, where protests are still peaceful and democracy is still vibrant, the people have spoken already - which is why the Left was voted out of office a few years ago.
68. #16 - in a rough neighborhood...sometimes you need a bouncer
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
If you go into the violent parts of an American city with a suit and talk with eloquent English, you'll have your ass handed to you. Israel didn't make the bad neighborhood it's in, but it can react to it. Lieberman brought what so many Israeli politicians didn't have the guts to do - CHUTZPAH! Israeli politicians have always remained quiet, or apologetic hoping to "not make matters worse". It didn't make the situation better, only postponed an inevitable conflict. Did being nice to Egypt win us friends? NO - their people were fed daily hatred. Did welcoming back Arafat and excusing his many terrorist attacks gain us favor among "palestinians"? Hell no - they gave up the fastest growing economy in 2000 in order to slaughter a few Jews! We bent over backwards to Turkey, who bad-mouthed us for many years until now, hoping this was just blustering for the Arab street. What has that done for us? Today, we have an Islamist leader that smacked Israel and demanded we prostrate ourselves in subservience. Lieberman may be a tough-nut, but I prefer this guy who stands up for Israel and its people (all over them, not just Jews) to the apologists you like who are more analogous to those Jews who sheepishly were led to the gas chambers.
69. #41 - You cannot make your own laws, Windrider
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
The keyword here is "legal blockade". Per Intl Law, which Palmer alluded to in the Report (read it when you get some time), derived from the San Remo convention, during a time of war, a ship may be boarded as soon as it leaves port if its publicly announced intention is to run that legal war-time blockade. Guess what the Mavi Marmara did? Hell, these goons announced their intentions weeks before they left port. If they had aid that really needed to get to Gaza - not expired medicines - they could have delivered it to El-Arish or Ashdod, both offered by the UN as viable transit points that guarantee delivery. It was refused on the grounds that "the flotilla's mission is to break the Gaza blockade". Execution of 9 civilians? Looks like your position is shown in the well-crafted Leftist position which is, according to the Palmer Report (again - you really should read it), wrong as the occupants used unjustified violence and caused the IDF to react the way it did. Call it what you want, but since you're nothing, we'll revert to Intl law, which Israel followed.
70. #44 - "a square deal"
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
Does that involve suicide? Sorry, we're not interested. Pallys were offered a State on 1967 lines several times in history and rejected it every time. That's as good as it gets. The Pallys admitted they want the end of Israel and nothing less. So, if our refusal to join a death march is considered "intransigence" to you, so be it. We haven't actually lost any support in the US (well, maybe among your friends but they don't really count). In the past 5 years, the % of Americans supporting Israel increased, while support for "Palestinians" has decreased. If you're standing on your head (with the blood flooding your skull, I can see how you'd be mistaken).
71. #57 - the Brits are the reason Kurds don't have a State
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
One was promised to these people right after WWI, and like every other promise the Brits made, it was reneged on.
72. #53 - even socialist Greece was willing to make changes
William ,   Israel   (09.12.11)
to join the EU. Turkey was neither willing to meet the Fiscal demands of the EU nor really address their reprehensible human rights problems. Letting them join the EU would have been a disaster, both for the strong nations like Germany who would witness even more Turkish immigrants, and as a reward for abusive behavior. What you're arguing is - turn a blind eye to human rights and decency in order to make a long-term political gain. Who the hell needs that in the world today? BTW - the AKP rose to power because to Turks it looked like they actually did something constructive for the country. Big deal - so he built some schools and won support for office. So did Hamas. And like Hamas, Erdogan is now strangling the populace, antagonizing its neighbors.
73. Davutoglu
Roy ,   USA   (09.12.11)
Mr. Davutoglu does not seem to comprehend that he and his loudmouth, hothead puppet -master have managed to make themselves very vulnerable, exposing themselves as the hypocritical opportunists they are. Of course, it is also no secret that Erdogan is a power-hungry egotist, hell-bent on transforming Turkey into a radical Islamic state which doesn't help his image over here very much. The good news is that going forward, the West will no longer have much difficulty in recognizing this government for what it really is and then have little problem in firmly cutting most ties, Any gains secular Turkey may have made will soon erode. Israel would be wise to just gently allow these two clowns to continue to act out and in so doing they will go further down the slippery slope they are tottering on. At that point, they will no longer be salvageable and they wil be cast aside.
74. The parable of the Turkey that thought it was an Eagle...
Scott ,   USA   (09.12.11)
A robin plucked its eyes out. Dumb Turkey.
75. Israel is really isolating itself now (turks)
Davod ,   USA   (09.12.11)
Sure the poor Israeli commandos were being attacked by Turks with knives and clubs and had to shot to kill. But can Israel really afford to piss-off Turkey right now with the ways things are going in Egypt and else where. Best to just apologize to the Turks. Turks will hold a grudge for centuries and this is only going to isolate Israel more.
76. A totally predictable result of Lieberman's ravings...
Rafi ,   US   (09.12.11)
... but I'll accept it only if thug Lieberman is the FIRST to fix bayonet and charge into Turkish lines - in the war he will help create. Hear o Israel: Free yourselves of these disastrous leaders and demagogues before it is too late!
77. Turkey guilty of Acts of War and Genocide
(09.12.11)
Turkey now has to live with the fact that the US - even with the full control of Muslims - has declared that Israel had every right to act in self defense as it did, when Turkey sent the Terror Flotilla to provoke Israel with an Act of war. So now Turkey is officially guilty of Act of War. Soon it will be found OFFICIALLY guilty of genocide. Then Turkey will have to apologize to the Armenians and pay for its crimes against humanity. Inshallah, Kul Kalb Bij Yommo!
78. Lieberman
Steve ,   Melbourne, Australia   (09.12.11)
Did Lieberman actually say these things? If he did, he should be kicked out. For you supporters of Lieberman - it may make you feel good to thump your chests from within your bubble in Israel, but from out here in the Diaspora we see day after day how Israel is becoming more isolated courtesy of people like Lieberman...
79. # 18 Turks
Davodq ,   USA   (09.12.11)
Do you think if Israel did apologize tomorrow for the killing of 9 Turks that most people in Turkey will forgive Israel. I am not saying who is right or wrong here . I am only saying that Israel is really isolating itself and by not apologizing to Turkey makes zero sense. Will the Turks forgive the Jews if they apologize or is it too late.
80. Israel needs new leadership.
David ,   USA   (09.12.11)
Despite the super high IQ of Netanyaho he sometimes lacks basic common sense. Israel will gain a lot more by just apologizing to the Turks. Makes no sense to worsen relations. Israel has enough problems with Hamas, Iran, Syria and a huge new problem emerging with Egypt. Why upset the Turks.
81. #78 Plenty of support for Israel.
Scott   (09.12.11)
No Steve, sorry - many dont agree with you. In fact many people are actually seeing what is happening and dont like what Turkey has done. Turkey has deliberately caused this problem and is perpetuating it. The situation will definitely polarise more into - "them and us", but at the end of the day more westerners will stick with Israel as they see the truth behind muslim fanaticism is actually nothing to do with Israels' "occupation" and that in fact Palestinians dont want peace at all and want to destroy Israel full stop. Israel is a just a scapecoat, a cover for Islamic Imperialism.
82. Concept of right & wrong
Josef ,   London, UK   (09.12.11)
Israel has illustrated that it clearly does not know the difference between right and wrong! Killing civillians in international waters is not acceptable. You dont board a vessel in international waters and then start shooting unarmed people. PERIOD! Not appologising for such a horrific event goes to show the calibre and decency of the Israeli, if you ran your friends dog over would you not appologise for the mistake??? this is not different the Israeli and Turkish people are friends, the governement has made a mistake and it says its regrettable WTF!!! Israel supporting terrorist pretty much sums it all up. The PKK are Globally recognised terrorist organisation like the Taliban. And Israel are saying they will fund Terrorist group and Arm them, that is the sickest thing i have ever heard, the PKK have killed recklessley in the past, bombed cities the last one i recall was HSBC in Istanbul were people were killed and seriously injured. I think the EU/UN/NATO should take out the government in Israel as it clearly has become a Terrorist linked government which is not acceptable, all of this is linked to what Bush called the 'Axis of evil'.
83. Israel should support the Kurds but not the PKK.
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (09.12.11)
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by many countries, including the USA. If Israel supports the PKK then how can we criticize Turkey for supporting Hamas. Many don't seem to know that the PKK attacked the Israeli Embassy in 1999 because "some Kurds accused the Mossad of providing information that led to the arrest in Kenya of Abdullah Ă–calan, the leader of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) in the Kurdish areas of Turkey. Kurdish protestors in Berlin attacked the Israeli embassy, and the Israeli security forces shot against the crowd. Hundreds stormed the Israeli Consulate, and this resulted in three protesters being shot to death, and another 16 protesters and 27 police officers wounded." (Wkipedia} An interesting fact is that the Israeli PM at the time was our Benjamin Netanyahu!
84. #80 David, USA
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (09.12.11)
Benjamin Netanyahu seems to be not the only one to lack basic common sense. There is absolutely nothing to gain by apologizing to the Turks. Their Dear Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan is only waiting for the next opportunity to humiliate Israel.
85. To #79 Davodq
Ibrahim ,   Turkey   (09.12.11)
You said: "Will the Turks forgive the Jews"? The Jewish people have done nothing against us Turks. In fact, the Israeli people have also done no wrong by us. We will never discriminate between a muslim or jewish person. In fact, it might be ironic to know that the most radical Sunni or sufi muslims in Turkey also do not discriminate between muslims and jewish people. The Turks have a problem with the current Israel government. Our problem is not religious. When the PA leader was not even seated on a low chair, the Turkish Ambassador was paraded and publicly humiliated. This was only one incident against the Turks. A Mad man was also let into the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv taking hostage the Turkish Ambassador...The Turks are perfectly capable of distinguishing between a government and the Israeli public.
86. High Seas
Guest ,   Istanbul   (09.12.11)
With any situation, proper analysis is to put your self in the other parties shoes. What if Turkish commandoes stormed an Israeli ship in international waters and killed 9 Israelis in cold blood. And the UN said Turkey has a right to protect its borders. How would you feel?
87. #86- But the UN did not say so. The Palmer report did.
Ibrahim ,   Turkey   (09.12.11)
88. Isolation
Fabio ,   Genova Italy   (09.12.11)
The turks are right and Israel is isolated like it never was before. At the end everything will turn normal. A war whoul mean end of both countries do we eant that?
89. #81 - Your views are skewed and biased
Andrew Grantelli ,   Pittsburgh, PA   (09.12.11)
Scott, You are making generalizations and interpreting the events only from a narrow window. I think if you were to review the events, you would see plenty of blame to go around on both sides. However, in this particular case, one can say Israel has indeed acted like a spoiled child and needs to get a grip on the situation.
90. why not?
mehrdad ,   germany   (09.13.11)
israel has every right to support the PKK. why? last year erdogan tried to break the hamas blocade of gaza with a bunch of IHH islamists. the ONLY consequences would be more and bigger iranian rockets hitting israels women and kids. therefore israel has every right of the world to give support to PKK! this bastard erdogan wanted to cause a situation where irania ships would be able to bring tons of rockets to gaza ad iralis civilians would pay the price.
