3. End this charade already!
Metin ,   Germany   (09.18.11)
Turkey's EU bid is already dead and has been ever since 1963. Erdogan is looking for excuses to withdraw the EU bid without losing face or - preferably - force the Europeans to reject Turkey. The recent developments should be seen in that light. After 50 years of hitting its head against the european concrete wall, Turkey finally realised that it could be a smart move to turn around and walk the other way. Good for Turkey.
4. Turkey's great diplomacy

Professor Miao   (09.18.11)
He commands authority like, like a 10 year-old who says he's going to take his marbles and go home because the others are letting Jake play and he doesn't like Jake because Jake refused to give him his bicycle.

13. Is it a promise?
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (09.18.11)
I really hope. And hopefully Turkey will never ever join the EU!. Turkey is an asian islamic country. EU does not need borders with terrorist states such as Iran, Syria and Irak.
14. The resurgence of nazism, a la Turke
Sherryl   (09.18.11)
blackmail, the latest Erdogan diplomatic row with Cyprus. Having shown to the world that he is capable of running it's own affairs by bullying, threatning, insulting Israel, he is now setting his sight on Greece / Cyprus. The perfect carbon copy of hitler's / tchekoslovakia, and dire consequences. Then, a big yawn by inept Europe; today an even bigger yawn by Europe, America, the Mid east ----- with Nato mimcking the UN. Cowardise is in, heroics are out. Unlike islam, Europe doesn't have free whores as an incentive, but " politically correct " imbeciles are in abundent supply. --- " Qui vivra, verra ".
15. Look at the mirror
Abuzer ,   Doha, qatar   (09.18.11)
Israel should join EU with Cyprus, since we know how much Greeks love Jews, they can all live peacefully. Of course as Spanish, Germans etc.start killing you in numbers next time, you go ask help from Greeks, they will save you. I hope one day, the people of Israel wakes up and start acting reasonably. The Turks was always supportive of Jews until your racist government took over, don't blame to RTE only.
16. SCHOOLYARD BULLY BACK
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.18.11)
Whenever you give even the slightest victory to a bully, as we all know, it only emboldens the bully. Just as rejection stirs a violent response, there is no right way to treat a bully, except one, that I know of, can you guess what that is? So when the Palmer Report rejected, almost all of Turkey's positions, regarding the flotilla. What happened? They jumped on the "excessive force" by Israel as proof they were right, and rejected the rest of the report. Then came the nearly daily threats against Israel. Each day we heard a new threat or punishment from Erdogan. The world remained silent, instead of attacking Turkey for the provocation. Silence is always read by a bully as fear. So now they threaten the EU. Why? Because the crybabies don't like Cyprus getting the EU Presidency. So will the EU stand up to Turkey? We'll see? But it is proof positive, who the real bully is, who really is arrogant, and believes they can do whatever they want, isn't it? CASE CLOSED
17. Good analisys #3
Jakobo ,   BsAs   (09.18.11)
The thing is that any country can gain simpathies in the arab countries without blaming israel for whatever. and thats what turkey is doing at the moment. and that is israel's problem in the moment. isreal should not stay so calm when turkey is showing disrespect because they will take it as an incentive to continue. Maybe its time for a Kurdish state bid at the UN? Or for condemnig the genocide for the Armenians? Some cartoons about "what would ataturk say about erdogans politics"?
18. Throw this mediterranean Bully.
Arul   (09.18.11)
19. Turkey
Arul   (09.18.11)
Turkey is not a member of EU. How does it matter to him what EU does with its own governance. Er Dog an is really pathetic.
20. People who are in bubble dont see outer part
Ahmet ,   Turkey   (09.18.11)
I hope there will be EU in 5 years who will say NO to TURKEY. Well you dont see anything from inside right? There is no EU, there are Germany and France only!
21. Geography
Daniel ,   Ta   (09.18.11)
Cyprus is an Island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is therefore fully european. The continental divide is through Turkey at the Bosphorous
22. Sporting the Hitler Stache, how fitting for this lunatic who

flies off in a rage so easily.
23. Don't Kow Tow to Turkey
Douglas Fireman ,   Chicago, USA   (09.18.11)
"The internationally-recognized Greek Cypriot government is due to take on the six-month rotating EU presidency in July 2012." Definitely. The EU should not fall for Turkish leaderships' machiavellian games.
24. Erdogan is slowly but surely lowering Turkey's world status!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (09.18.11)
It doesn't matter what Erdogan wants to do or doesn't want to do. but his actions mean the Turkey will soon be seen as a pariah state, that is only on good terms with other pariah states such as Iran. Sad because Turkey had lots of friends and lots of tourists before he arrived on the scene. Right now Turkey is a shipping point for major appliances to countries all over the ME but that seems deemed to end too.
25. Islamists boarded Turkey, on course to sink her.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.18.11)
26. Islamist Turkey OUT of NATO, asap!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.18.11)
27. Nikos Lygeros: Strategic mistake for Turkey ... has depth.
Geo, Athens   (09.18.11)
The revolution of Kemal through the passage of time turns out to be a strategic mistake for Turkey. Acting officially in the rejection of the Ottoman Empire, Turkey was founded on building in the genocide, which was for her a prerequisite for development. The problem is that at the outset depends on the genocide and the recognition of the latter is a rejection of the structural foundations of Turkey, namely the contribution of Kemal. And each new recognition is a blow to the structure. The real problem is that there is no solution for Turkey and is located in a strategic impasse. In chess, we would say that its position is that of Zuzwang. One workaround is to change the sentencing framework and Kemal, who can be added as an error in the evolution of the Ottoman Empire. This effort is neoothomaniko doctrine in its essence, without of course be a highlight of the issue of leadership. But this approach returns the Muslim people in a trend where the Islamic movement is normal, even if you do not respond to rational criteria for Turkey, which at this stage will not exist anymore. This change, however, has implications in relation to states which belong within the Judaeo-Christianity. Because most older alliances are no longer meaningful since the religious element, and returns along the historical context. Turkey through neoothomanikou framework to lead and is one of the peaks of spears should follow a general trend that has existed for centuries. This broader debate is rooted in the Holy Land and their history. So to correct its strategic mistake that Turkey must change strategy and highly integrated in a field that first rejects building, second amended final alliances and converts it to an assignee of a timeless debate. Over the years, Europe has understood this general trend, which remains timeless locally. Moreover, the continuity of local conflicts conceal this fundamental change. So only geostratigistes reveal new designs on old mental patterns, while politicians still looking for solutions through a realism that is no longer a reality because the strategic mistake has depth.
28. @ 26: I disagree ("Islamist Turkey OUT of NATO")
Jakobo ,   BsAs   (09.18.11)
I think that it would have been good for Israel if the EU had accepted Turkey as a member. And I think that Turkey would go completly mad if they would be excluded from the Nato as they would focus even more on the arab region.
29. Cyprus is Asian
Metin ,   Germany   (09.18.11)
Look at the map, the Bophorus, Marmara Sea, Dardanelles and the Aegean Sea are Europe's borders; Cyprus is clearly EAST of all that, near Syria and Lebanon.
