Turkey refused, insisting on only full membership and already accusing the EU of unfairness. Then the GFC came and everything's falling apart. The EU's problems are so immense just trying to deal with the Southern Europeans, let alone a giant alien society whose anti-social migrants to Europe have only caused deep resentment at the rotten society from which they sprang. This is why so many westerners support Israel, because of anti-Islam and anti-Arab sentiment rather than pro-Jewish sentiment.

Turkey's position on the gas discoveries is ridiculous. It claims there are two states on the island of Cyprus but denies the right of the Republic of Cyprus to search for reserves in its own zone. Has Turkey allowed the Greek Cypriots a share of the natural wealth in northern Cyprus all these years? Of course not. Turkey imposes partition on the island and at the same time wants a share of the wealth of southern Cyprus. What a stupid, cynical and confused policy!

On the contrary, I'm sure that the EU, NATO, the OECD, OSCE, UN, and WTO have plans for Turkey as well.
