Many highly educated Turks are working in the fields that they did not study especially engineers (I know a few). You may pay small interest thanks to USA loan guarantees but you also pay the highest price for energy, natural gas and gasoline in all over the world. Believe me when I tell you that 1 kilo apple is cheaper here in New York then in Istanbul. I know I was there not long ago. The living standards of a Greek are much higher then the Turks even under the economic troubles. And finally; I must remind you again that all foreign debt must be paid at one point or another. Turkey is now importing everything including meat and produce instead of producing. What will happen when the payback time comes?

"The secular Turks and modernist intellectuals" are in fact the last ones to expect something from. In racism, they share the very same point of view with Erdogan and his supporters. It is not coincidence that many "intellectuals" in Turkey openly declare their support for him and many seculars start praising him. It is them who voted for 'secular' parties for years prior to Erdogan. It is just 'a change of power'. For example, against Jews, Greeks, Armenians and Kurds surprisingly they say nothing different. All is the same.

Nick Kristoff blames Israel in his column yesterday. The Times has decided that Israel is the Villain in the MIddle East, has discarded history or revised it to meet their bias.
