...it's not looking good for Israel. It's becoming increasingly isolated in the Mid East, losing two of its only "friends" in the past year (Turkey and Egypt.) It's sole protector in the world, the US, is bogged down with debt and Americans increasingly want our government to focus on domestic issues. Europeans are fickle, but recently the leaders of both Germany and France have spoken out against Israel. So Israel is not alone, eh? Denial is always the first hurdle to overcome. If Israelis aren't honest about their position in the world they won't push for the change that is needed for Israel to be truly secure as a nation.

Why are YOU personally occupying Indian lands? The Arabs squatting in Judea and Samaria occupy Jewish lands and are Jordanian citizens. Like all illegal foreigners occupying somebody's lands they need to be sent back to their own country.

The political talk is much more pro-israel than it used to be in Belgium. The people talk much less in favor of Palestine than they used to. It's clear that the tide is changing fast. First, it is not Israel per say that has lost support, but Israeli leadership. The mood is decidedly far more negative toward that leadership than in any time in the past 60 years. People are fed up with the dishonesty and efforts to manipulate opinion for which Netanyahu is famous. It is not the Palestinians fault that Netanyahu continues to build in the West Bank and Golan Heights in order to dampen interest in peace talks. West Bank Palestinians have taken a "non-violent" approach to the problem of Israeli apartheid practices and it is working. The UN security and UN general assembly have yet to take their votes, but when they do trust me it will be a lot more lopsided and indicative of just how far the pendulum has swung against Netanyahu and his policies than Bechor wishes to admit.

Mr Bechor is right to sense a change in attitudes towards Israel,but he fails to have noticed the influence that government has on public opinion.Possibly I should say,on the perception of public opinion.The big change came in Britain with the removal of the Blair/Brown New Labour government that was leading anti-Israel sentiment from the top.Certainly,the New Labour years were the period of most antipathy towards Israel that I can remember.Tony Blair never missed an opportunity to publicly blame Israel for all the troubles in the Middle East ,EVEN IRAQ. The changed and far more positive view of Israel is certainly true in Canada under Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The PM has defended Israel on the world stage at the Francophone Summit, G8 summits and at the UN. Consistently.

I often wondered when "decent " folks would get tired of the one sided, blame Israel game being foisted on the public. Now if someone, entity, country, etc. could get the CBC, CTV to show a more balanced viewpoint(along with other world media), I believe we could make some progress. I think you are right about the Spanish leftist media, but there is also the problem that a lot of people in Spain don't have access to more conservative media for example in English due to the lack of knowledge of English.

it would be a huge mistake to believe that anybody outside of Israel is even aware of the desire of many Israelis to keeep the West Bank. It is taken for granted outside of Israel that the Palestinians will have an independent state in the West Bank. There would be zero support in the west for Israel keeping the West Bank. You dont have to give a damn about support , but dont fool yourself that there is possibly support for Israel hanging onto the West Bank.
