i believe in the importance of saying this prayer without a doubt, but if this shas member is intends on bringing shalit closer to judaism, his comments will do achieve the direct opposite. #1 by publicizing his comments; #2 the fact that he shows ZERO understanding and sensitivity to what shalit and his family have endured - none of us can put ourselves in their shoes for a second. #3 for the rest of us who reads these unnecessary preachy comments, it serves to further stigmatize shas and other religious parties for being overly-dogmatic at the expense of turning readers off to religious observance if this is what they can expect.

The Shalits made Gilad public property. They pushed him to the front of every news agency. They had people put posters up for him everywhere. They asked people to pray for him. They asked, no demanded, that this nation put gilad before the safety of the nation. So, what Gilad and his family do is the business of this nation - and everyone in it. You cannot use the press and the people for your own benefit, and then expect them to disappear when you've had enough of them or just got what you want.

I agree with you, Gilad would be correct to thank those who were in favor of his release. I am sure he is a polite young man and may soon start thanking many people in Israel and worldwide. Humanitarian gestures should be recognized and thanked for. Let's give Gilad time to restore his confidence and start forgetting the terrible five years.
