Having failed to use force when conditions were less risky, the west is now even relenting on more effective sanctions on the fear for economic disruptions resulting from some form of oil embargo. So again, for short term cosmetic stability, the western politicians are sacrificing longer term security by letting a second unstable (like Pakistan) & fanatic regime holding the world hostage in the future with the threat of nuclear weapons & increased influence over the middle East affairs. Not to speak of a possible arms race by fearfull Arab countries. We can also thank the Russians & Chinese for making sure any sanction is toothless as they also rely on short term vision for their sphere of political &/or economic influence in competition with the West.
