1. but....
Menachem L. ,   Israel   (11.14.11)
This is good news but here is a question: How many Africans enter Israel each month and want to live here? Answer: 1200-2000. Yes, EVERY month.
2. immigrants from the USA
sas ,   israel   (11.14.11)
I presume that the only reason they are coming now is that the situation in the USA is bad. once things improve there we will see them return.
3. #2 It might depend on people like you
Logic ,   Israel   (11.14.11)
Make immigrants feel welcome and they will stay. This is a self-selecting, filtered group who chose to come here and put money issues as secondary. Think about it.
4. Biggest obstacle to retention to remove: fraud
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (11.14.11)
Don't promise things that were never intented to be delivered. If I had a shekel for every time I heard the story "they said I'd have a place to stay, but I found out after I got here that it's only for non-US immigrants" I could buy those future US residents a private apartment building. Or the nonsense about help with rent or buying homes or cars in Israel - microscopic for US immigrants - and the personal favorite, near-zero assistance in English. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Honest Zionists are sick of being punished for anti-Semites having steamrolled over aliyah resources, and many don't stick around because of that. And they tell their friends when they move back to the US, and discourage additional aliyah AND donations to Israel.
5. Are they completely mad?
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (11.14.11)
6. @4 c #1 and then please explain to me...
ani ,   can b'Israel   (11.14.11)
how it is that these third world folks manage without knowledge of the language and without any special assistance from the government? meanwhile the (presumably) well educated first world Jews from the United States belly ache and complain in a manner similar to what you have written! I'm just sayin!
7. ... and not a looker in the bunch
Ilina ,   Russia   (11.14.11)
*sigh*
8. #4 and #6
Henry from New York ,   USA   (11.14.11)
You all are reminding me of the Israeli film, Turn Left at the End of the World. That film dealt with such matters.
9. ANOTHER 52 DREAMERS FULL OF
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.14.11)
Sentiment .Living here for a few years will soon knock the sentiments out of them.
10. 52 NEW IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.14.11)
And how many will stay the course ?? answers on a postcard please.
11. @ 2
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (11.14.11)
Yes they are coming to Israel to make big money $525.00 a week ( 8,000 nis) and buy cheap houses along with cheap cars along with cheap gasoline and sit in a pub after work and drink $7.00 (25 NIS) draft beer. I agree things are bad in the US, however you might have plenty of jobs in Israel but the prices are criminal and the salaries suck.
12. negative talkbacks...
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (11.14.11)
What's the matter with you people? Suck a lemon for breakfast?
13. 97% of newcomers remain?
Aryeh ,   Herzliya, Israel   (11.14.11)
I am somewhat skeptical as to the truthfulness of these statistics. In fact, I believe the "97% remain in Israel" figure is completely false. Personal experience and actual figures indicate that the majority of Olim from North America will simply return. Israel is no longer a Jewish state, but simply a country controlled by Jews with a Jewish majority. A lack of cohesion, fragmented communities, demographic issues, and corruption makes me question the sustainability of Israel. Don't get me wrong, Israeli should be very proud of their accomplishments. However, without foresight and a little better decision making, things look grim.
14. #2 typical Israeli ingrate, appreciates nothing and no one
Al   (11.14.11)
move on... The future is not yours. Isreal is moving to the right and pissy little self loathers really havent got a future there.
15. #12 WRITING FROM SACRAMENTO ?
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.14.11)
You do not live here and therefore do not understand just how difficult life is for new olim so kindly keep quiet .
16. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
Michael ,   California, USA   (11.14.11)
Will the 52 ever know about Israel from before June, 1967? Will they ever know how great Israel once was? I am sure they will care, but remain on the sidelines.
17. @#2
Yuliya ,   NY, USA   (11.14.11)
believe me when I say, that even with our difficult economic times and huge yeshiva bills, life here is 10 times easier and more comfortable then in Israel. One needs to have reasons well beyond financial in order to make a decision to make aliya.
18. To #1 Menachem in Israel
John ,   Alaska   (11.15.11)
Is anybody taking the time to explain Judaism to these people? Many of these migrants might be receptive to completing Halachic conversion and joining the family of Jews. Even if not, there may be many among these migrants whom Ha'Shem has brought to the Promised Land so they can support and defend you against your enemies. I pray that Ha'Shem gives your leaders there wisdom to discern between those sent to join you or at least help you and those that you need to send away.

21. Congratulations on your move!
Anne ,   San Francisco, CA US   (11.15.11)
I am jealous. I wish I had the balls to move to Israel and it makes me happy that you 52 fellow American Jews are doing it. Congratulations and enjoy the beautiful country of Israel!
22. Welome Olim (from the galut)
Avi ,   Israel   (11.15.11)
Welcome to Medinat Yisrael, dont pay attn to the negative and keep your vision of why you came alive and actualize it all your days in this tough and overwhelming struggle we call home, in this great and improvable country. Your power is little but your heart and soul to stand for something must be present to overcome the dark days and remember, if you dont learn the language and history-you will lose out. Dont quit and dont become indifferent. This is your home too, your national, historic, religious and natural right is irrevocable to be here- Avraham Yizhak and Ya'akov did it as well, so lekh lekha and leave the galut for the new beginning. Hiloni, dati, Hareidi, if you come its your gain (except financially lol) So dont think youll be rich here or get the respect your pride demands, and all will be Bseider B"H.
23. welcome olim
hodaya ,   israel   (11.15.11)
israel is great! however i dont agree with the agency who is bringing, well who is supporting olim who are not jewish. i believe in order to come at least they should convert to get all the benefits that we are provided. But a real conversion not a reformist or conservative. To all the new olim behatzlacha israel is the best for the jewish people is the only place where we are together and with hashem help the transition will be easy for each and everyone of you!
24. 97% - HA!
Dave   (11.15.11)
how long do they stay for? 6 months? This figure is incorrect and no one can seriously believe it.
25. SCRAP THE INEFFICIENT JEWISH AGENCY!!!!!
andy ,   uk   (11.15.11)
26. the promises of the promised land
marg ,   london uk   (11.15.11)
I made Aliyah with my family and I also returned back to the UK. The nefesh b nefesh website sale a completely different product than the one you get when you get there. I do believe that my children would have remained uneducated due to the poor hebrew instruction in school and I have heard many similar stories of others doing the same. If you want to live in Israel, do it when you want to retire and have money in the bank to support it. Everyone struggles to make money there, its a very hard way of life that unless you have lived there and see for yourself, you wont comprehend, and no nefesh b nefesh website can make you realise it. Good luck to all those who have just landed, I hope they have more success that I.
27. #26 Marg
Miro ,   Israel,Italy   (11.15.11)
It is true that life in Israel is harsher than in Europe, but yr nice life in UK is owed to the existence of the State of Israel. If Israel would not exist,we would not be safe in Europe. So please be moderate in your judging Israel and come and visit at least once a year. Personally, after living in Europe for many years,I live more than seven months a year in Israel. I love this country.
28. # 26
Anne ,   San Francisco   (11.15.11)
Just because you did not have the strength to stay does not mean these 52 won't. I know several people who went and stayed and learned Hebrew just fine. Please don't try to drag these people down with you and your inability to make a life there.
29. with all due respect...
alsky ,   toronto   (11.15.11)
Israelis need to learn to smile and learn customer service.---especially to tourists
30. All olim care, not only americans!!!
alvaro ,   argentina   (11.16.11)
