1. Dim?
Robert ,   Australia   (11.17.11)
The fact that Israel has atomic weapons is why an arms race is on the cards. Is he not bright enough to fathom that?
2. the dumpest DM ever
fad egypt   (11.17.11)
barak is giving iran the legitmecy to be a nuclear country by saying that if he was i would want nukes that is stupid , he is giving the iranians the right of having nuclear bombs i remember when he said in the past that if he was a palestinian he would be a suicide bomber !!!!! as long as barak is the defense minister i believe that israel should not bomb iran that man cant do the job , he cant defend israel anymore he must be replaced by moshe yaalon and after that israel can bomb iran like what happened before the six day war when moshe dayan appointed the defense minister before the war shalom
3. Good Job
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (11.17.11)
DM Barak is doing a very good job. He is employing the sefirotic tools. The only way there will be peace in the region is if people make an attempt to understand each other's narrative. No group or nation is without trauma from its past. The Persians have a certain frame of reference influenced by a 3000 year old history, climate, geography and culture. When all mindsets "click" around a central frame of reference and agreed upon boundaries and principles, i.e. The House for All Nations/Temple Mount/Noble Sanctuary and the World Peace 2050 mission peace will really unfold. Prayers for the Middle East !
4. If I were a rich man...I would do business
Israeli 2   (11.17.11)
with Iran.
5. #1 Robert. You're missing the Gillard & Obama Show
Scott ,   Australia   (11.17.11)
We agree - Barak is a goose. But the alleged Israeli nukes have been there for so long - 30 years? In that regard as the impetus for regional arms race - now , that is BS. Iran does have much wider goals and irrespective of what you think of Israel - I just know that aside, you're not going to agree with what Iran is likely to do.
6. barak and mindenstraus
marcel   (11.17.11)
Now you know why mindenstraus said barak is disconnected from reality. He is a smalll time commando and cannot handle land battles or large issues. He now gives iran cover to cover himself because he doesn't have it him anymore. And bibi has stood by him for 3 years, a man that ben eliezer said is pathetic. Iran will soon appoint him minister of defense for iran.
7. If I were Barak, I would want brains
Herb ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (11.17.11)
the situation we are in is in part due to the scarecrow we have as defence minister. Too bad the Wizard of Oz wont give him brains
8. Idiot Barak!!!!
Jack ,   LA, USA   (11.17.11)
9.  Iran is a dictatorship of primitive crazies
Marcelo ,   World   (11.17.11)
How dare you compare Israel with Iranian dictatorship ? You can not and should not allow nuclear weapon in hands of a government that kills, whip, stone and mutilate for not thinking according to a bunch of crazies who believe the world should by radically guided by them.
10. Shiites want to rule over the Sunnis. Only weapons change.
PETER SM ,   Australia   (11.17.11)
11. #2 Yes
John ,   Hamilton, ON   (11.17.11)
Honesty is a liability. Bibi and Lieberman, on the other hand, are assets.
12. Clumsy wording of good intent
Joe ,   Canada   (11.17.11)
Ehud Barak was probably trying to convince his TV audience that the Iranian race to nuclear power status was not exclusively a grave danger for Israel but for the Middle East & the world at large. Knowing that no country would come to the help of Israel if Iran was threatening only Israel, he atempts to shake the indifference of the world by presenting how a nuclear Iran would be able to control a greater share of oil resources which is often the only matter that moves world leaders of the West. But he certainely did not have to appear to find Iran's program a normal, legitimate behaviour. He could have explained that when a democratic country develops nuclear weapons it does it for maintaining military balance with potentially hostile entities. It does not threaten the survival of other countries, it sometimes states it would not be the first one to use the nuclear weapon. And most importantly it is not in the hands of irrational fanatics who are active in terrorism & have hegemonic ambitions. Iran, if peaceful, has no ennemies against which it could justify the possession of nuclear weapons. Thanks to the demise of Sadam Hussein, it has now a friendly Shia Irak neighbour which it might eventually control.
13. #1 Rob you have to remember he is....
Chris.B ,   Australia   (11.17.11)
talking on an American show so telling the truth to the audiance is not permitted. Its funny that he mentions the arms race I have been saying all along that the Iran issue has always been about Israels hegemony in the region (Securing the realm for Israel) also trying to goad the Americans to destroy all of its enemies.
14. Fad I like your knowledge
Gilad ,   Johannesburg SA   (11.17.11)
You are an Egyptian and you kno so much about Israeli politics? Very impressive. I dont know what is happening with iran it is mind games. Barak is not stupid i think he can handle whatever another minister of defence can. Dayan would have been perfect.
15. quite an intelligent argument coming from Barak for once
zionist forever   (11.17.11)
Saying if he were Iran he would want nukes sends the message that of course Iran wants nukes its only natural so don't stick your head in the sand and hope for the best. Its true all those other countries will want nukes. Saudi Arabia will just buy the things wrapped in a ribbon from Pakistan so they won't even have to spend any time developing the things, they will come in the post. That will also start a nuclear arms race where the powers that be are radical islamists or egotistical idiots like Erdogan. There won't be any MAD ( mutually agreed destruction ) philosophies here to prevent war, only a hope nobody gets a vision from Allah saying press the red button. Iran is going to bully its neighbors in an attempt to try and drive western influence out of the Gulf and run a protection racket. You arabs be good and we will protect you but if you disobey you will regret it. Its also true nobody will want to touch Iran once they have nukes. We need proof of that just look at Syria, Assad has killed three times as many people as Gaddafi before the Europeans were calling for war but the west are to scared to touch Assad because he has potential to make alot of trouble they don't need right now. If they are to scared to go to mess with Syria just think how they would feel about going to war with Iran which would be a conventional military power, have nukes and pretty soon the ability to hit mainland USA. This is the most intelligent speech Barak has made in a long time.
16. Barak belongs on a float...in a parade...somewhere.
Devorah   (11.17.11)
I give up.
17. EHUD BARAK
Armand ,   Los Angeles USA   (11.17.11)
Why don't you do Israel and the Jewish people a favor and ''JUST STOP TALKING" No more Interviews! BARAK, I listened to the whole interview,....You STINK,..you are neither witty nor brilliant and your political ideas are dangerous for the future of Israel... It is bad enough that you are DM,...I am really worried for Israel with you BARAK in that position. I hope Bibi will rights the wrongs!
18. I agree with Barak for once
Joseph Blough ,   USA   (11.17.11)
Iran would be foolish not to develop a nuclear deterrent in light of the threats to its sovereignty being tossed around by Israel and the US. The NPT was supposed to punish non-signatories and protect NPT signatories such as Iran from being threatened by nuclear states, but the US has instead supported weapon programs of non-signatories such as Israel and India and Pakistan and has joined with Israel in threatening Iran, which is not exactly the way to encourage NPT compliance.
19. response to #1
Ron from NJ ,   Newark, NJ   (11.17.11)
"The fact that Israel has atomic weapons is why an arms race is on the cards" You have it backwards. There is no need for an arms race, because nobody fears that Israel will use nuclear weapons unless she is attacked. In fact, it is SOLELY the fear of nuclear retaliation that has prevented Iran from attacking Israel with conventional weapons thus far, or from attacking Saudi Arabia, which Israel (and the West) cannot allow to fall to Iran. Indeed, Israel's nuclear weapons have kept the middle east a safer place. Iran now seeks to change the status quo, and has every intention of using nuclear weapons to launch aggression against its neighbors. I think you are bright enough to fathom that -- most of the world already knows it.
20. dimmerer!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (11.17.11)
if these were the highlights of the interview, barak has done more to harm israel's strategic position in 10 minutes than barak obama has managed to do in 3 years! barak is dangerous and should not be allowed to go out in public with a loaded mouth!
21. I can't believe the stupidity of Ehud Barak.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.17.11)
This is the same "Defense Minister" who thought it was a great idea to arm P.A. terrorists for the fictional Palestine statehood declaration. This is the same dim wit who wanted to divide Jerusalem. So we all know Barak is not the sharpest tool in the shed. However, Barak's comments about Iran sets a new low for idiocy. It looks like Iran might have paid him to make these cretinous comments. I can't believe the stupidity of Ehud Barak. It is a sick political process that allows his ilk to rise to the top echelons of power.
22. The arabs do not need nukes, they have
jason white ,   afula,israel   (11.17.11)
three WMDs used against Israel daily. They have a loose cannon like barak, the super fool peres and big mouth livni. barak should not only be fired, but locked up in a home and the same for peres. livni will disappear from politics after the next elections and her party will be down sized.
23. Send barak to represent Israel? A suicide mission.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.17.11)
24. did barak mention irans genocidal threats?
Bernard Ross ,   st anns bay, jamaica   (11.17.11)
25. I wonder...
Lobo ,   USA   (11.17.11)
Is Ehud Barak an Iranian double agent?
26. Don't blame him....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (11.17.11)
Blame Netanyahu who gave him the DM post and kept him for the sake of a comfortable coalition. Both should go!
27. Nuclear Weapons
Kam ,   Tehran, Iran   (11.17.11)
Here's an illuminating conception! Make a serious attempt to denuclearize the entire Middle East region, and entice those who already possess such weapons to cease threatening Iran. In addition, The region must be void of any enslaved stooge governments who are subservient to outside forces and therefore detrimental to the region.
28. Barak.
Philip . ,   Afula, Israel   (11.17.11)
This clown seems to have totally lost his marbles.Shut him up already, perhaps even better, lock him up.
