Iran is about to become Canada's problem too. Barak and Peter Mackay are about to sign a mutual defense pact which will mean Canada will be obliged to come to Israel's defense in the event of an Israel-Iran war. That means Canada's F16's will soon be flying bombing sorties over Iran.
62. What happesn the next day?
spyguy ,   Seattle, USA   (11.20.11)
I find it interesting that NONE of those advocating an attack on Iran, ever consider what happens on day 2. Do they really expect that Iran will just surrender? Look how irrationally angry Americans got over a minor attack on 9/11. The realistic expectation should be that Iran will attack Israel and the US with everything they have. While Iran can not physically attack the US because of the giant moats around the US, they can attack the US economy by making half the world's oil supply dry up overnight. The US has to import 75% of its energy needs and has no alternatives when the price of energy shoots for the sky. The US without oil would be economically devastated with lots of deaths. On the other hand, Israel is within weapons range of Iran, so it is perfectly reasonable to expect that Israel will receive a massive barrage of explosives that will kill many and destroy most of the Israeli infrastructure (and economy). So, how many dead Israelis are "acceptable?" So, how much infrastructure destruction is "OK?" Will the it be OK if the attack causes Iran pulls out of the NPT and test a nuke within a year? Attacks have MANY unintended consequences and an attack on Iran could easily lead to the destruction of Israel. Is Iran really that much of a threat that Israelis want to commit suicide?

what you say is very relevant, but it seems not a major reason for refusing to attack Iran. the major reason is much simpler. israel can not go to Iran without flying over hostile country and armed, with modern air defense, and without refuelling several times, putting the plane in a vulnerable position for a large period. nor even cause severe damage to Iran's nuclear facilities . go to war just to say "we are going" is riddicule. the Israelis will take hundreds of Shahab missiles on the head, each single one can destroy an entire neighborhoods. and a protracted war with Hezbollah, Hamas, perhaps Syria, and of course Iran. when this disastrous war is over hte Iranian's program will return to its highest level yet, and while israel even not yet healed its wounds and its economy. result a disaster useless. and for those who call on Israel to attack the headquarters of pasdarans to avoid an Iranian counterstrike, return to the reality. Israel can not attack the thousands of Iranian bases by making round trip of over 2000 km. you have lost a sense of proportion and reality

sarah B, you are riddicule, the destruction of a missile is for you 90% of its arsenal lol. you are riddicule. but it is not the first time. a year ago you claimed that Stuxnet had stopped the iranian's centrifuges and the Iranian's program was finished. Are you still convinced? I doubt it. Am I wrong?
65. # Spyguy, it's a lose lose situation
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (11.20.11)
Iran has already threatened to attack Israel a number of times, it also say's that it has missiles capable of reaching Eastern Europe & U.S. bases in the Middle East Israel has a choice, attack Iran before she attacks or wait for Iran to attack us Either way there is death involved The Iranian's, to my knowledge, haven't as yet developed a Halal Nuke, which would differentiate between Muslims & Jews, everyone is going to get barbecued, n matter which side starts Remember Pearl Harbor, 9/11 or the Holocaust, we don't want any of them, NEVER AGAIN!!
66. #4 a difference
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.11)
There is a difference. Iran is not Germany. All they want is to rule the oil resources of the Middle East. If Israel attacks, Israel will be isolated internationally and be blamed for the following world economic crisis. This will be a double victory for the Saudis whose plan is to destroy the Jews and Persians without firing a shot. Israel should do nothing except build shelters in Judea and Samaria. Eventually, the Iranians will attack the Saudis and the Americans will then attack the Iranians to save the Saudis. At the end, there will be no Saudis, no Ahmadinejad, Obama cursed as the worst American president and a big Israeli victory.

some of the facts you have overlooked about Obama Surely, even you have heard of the "Korean Police Action", War was never declared Obama took up arms against Libya, without the approval of Congress By Law, he was allowed to do so for a limited period of time, he exceeded the limit, without bothering to consult Congress in the first place Another intentional disregard of Congress in his pursuit of an Imperial Presidency America engages in military actions and worries about how to fund it afterwards. After all the Federal Reserve has the printing presses and plenty of paper of print on The deal that was cut last August has some defects, namely many of the provisions have been deferred until after the 2012 elections, to be specific into 2014 Tell yourself to check for facts before you post, you are notorious for talking out of your hat, based solely on your vast amounts of non-experiences Yes, I know you're an expert on military affairs since your were born on a U.S. bases abroad "After the Vietnam War, Congress passed the War Powers Resolution, which granted the president the power to act unilaterally for 60 days in response to a "national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions" USA wasn't attacked, Obama went to war anyhow
69. #56 Mark - Tell your Congressman
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (11.20.11)
not to allow the President to circumvent Congress as was done in Korea, what America had was a "Police Action", war was never declared\ When Obama went after Libya, that too was an act of undeclared war, in violation of Congress War Powers Resolution, which granted the president the power to act unilaterally for 60 days in response to a "national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions" USA wasn't attacked, Obama went to war anyhow, plus it lasted a lot longer than the legal 60 days, if a legal war had been declared Try to be a bit more factual when posting
70. #62: all of that is certainly possible
esnuffnstl ,   USA   (11.20.11)
It's also possible a strike will do only limited damage to Iranian facilities, but do much to unite the Iranian people. Chances for a reawakening of Iran's "Green Movement" will be lessened as Iran's authoritarian government uses the military strikes as an excuse to further its grip on the Iranian people. This is epecially relevant as Syria slips into civil war which will undoubtedly encourage democratic elements in Iran to again take to the streets. Yes, a more democratic Iran will hardly be a friend of Israel, but it will focus more on the needs of its people than on funding terrorism abroad. From a logistics standpoint, a military strike will teach Iran which of its bunkers are able to withstand bombing. When they rebuild, they will have better knowledge of how deep to bury nuclear facilities. And they WILL rebuild as a military strike will give a boost to those in Iran who believe a nuclear weapon is the ultimate defense against future strikes (the "North Korea" defense.) Most estimates are an Israeli strike against Iran's nuclear program will set the program back a few years at best. Then what? Will Israel attack Iran every few years and every few years suffer the diplomatic blowback and violence on its borders that military action will cause? All this points to why diplomacy and a tightening of economic sanctions are the sanest path to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

I don't have the direct news link at the moment but this should suffice. http://reidsright.blogspot.com/2011/05/panetta-ordered-raid.html I will try to post the link later but it is pretty obvious that if Obama was involved from the start he would not have been in the middle of a golf game when the operation had already started. I don't care if you believe me or not. The truth is out there.

It did NOT add one job to the 9.1% Unemployment rate, nor did it shorten the food stamp or Unemployment liness Neither did it encourage those that had given up looking for jobs to return to their quests One more tid bit, the vast majority of American's bitterly resent Obamacare being shoved down their throats You can research it for yourself; the resentment against Obama's health plan is overwhelming Reduced care at additional cost, death panels to decide who does and doesn't merit care "Obamacare One Year Later: Majority of Americans Still Oppose ... www.freedomworks.org/.../obamacare-at-year-one-majority-of-ameri...Cached You +1'd this publicly. Undo Mar 23, 2011 – Two days later, Obamacare was signed into law against the will of the ... showed that 55 percent of Americans favored repeal of Obamacare". If you have some FACTS (not conjecture) that state otherwise, put them out for all to see Let’s not forget that your hero has stopped virtually all drilling for oil, by refusing permits to do so, while the Chinese are drilling 70 miles offshore from Florida One well blew out in the Gulf, Obama shut down all drilling, costing hundreds of thousands of jobs. Obama isn’t a shoe in by any means

They have been sanctioning Iran for more than a dozen years; Iran just thumbs its nose, blatantly saying they won't budge from their pre-destined goals Iran has enough oil revenue to buy anything it desires, from nations such as China, North Korea & Russia, who are quite willing to sell it to her, no credit involved, cash on the barrelhead Iran hasn't conceded one inch, she's plodding along to what seems to be the realization of her dream in the very near future So what if a bomb is dropped on Iran ?, if they die for Jihad, they expect the usual quote of 72 virgins for their reward. Quite similar, minus the allocated virgins, to the Japanese Kamikaze's, dying for the Emperor during World War Two Theory is nice while you're safe in the USA, if and when Iran will be able attain long range missiles, capable of hitting the USA, as they now say they missiles able to reach Eastern Europe and American Bases in the ME, with the capability of mounting nukes on them, ready to fire, you won't be nearly as smug when your own tush is a possible target That by the way, doesn't factor in the possibility that Nukes can be delivered via Satellites, far heavier payloads have been sent into space and returned to Planet Earth I can see it now, Russia is renting space on their Satellites to the USA, why not to Iran?
74. Iran has been building defenses for 35+ years
spyguy ,   seattle, USA   (11.21.11)
Iran has been expecting a massive US invasion for over 35 years and has developed very comprehensive defenses against that. Most of the defenses have been developed by Iran because of Saddam's war on Iraq when no one helped Iran and the US helped Iraq. Iran decided it had to be self-sufficient with weapons and like China, has concentrated on DEFENSIVE weapons. Any Israeli attack on Iran will run right into a buzz-saw and Israel could lose most of its aircraft. No matter how the scenario is run, Israel ends up the loser in a war with Iran. Israel needs to keep its mouth shut and learn to live with less power. That is what the US is going to have to do as it follows the well worn path of an ex-empire builder.

You may not like the fact that Congress can independently declare war. But they can do so. I know you don't like Obama. maybe you'll get Herman Cain or Ron Paul as his replacement - Or Newt Gingrich or Romney. Or maybe you'll start WW III and the planet will be a burnt out cinder by the election. Who knows. Have fun.

Dear Sir, You have no idea what you are talking about. The defenses of Iran are nothing either for Israel or for the US to penetrate. Their entire defense system will be disabled in an hour or less. The US strategic bombing force was designed to get through SOVIET defenses. Do you think Iran can even come close to this? Their defenses are a joke. The only thing Iran can do in "defense" are terror attacks in the west and for that, if they dare, they will simply be destroyed. It is coming. No US President can allow them nuclear weaponry.

I wasn’t commenting on Congress declaring war, it was on a President's going to war without consulting or getting approval from Congress Who knows, one day you may know what you’re talking about, today isn't one of them Next time I will post my letter in Hebrew since you seem to have a problem understanding the English language

First, it is not a "possible issue". It IS an issue. Second, the UNGA is not capable of solving anything. Third, the Iranian people don't have the freedom to solve it even if they wanted to. So war is inevitable. Simple.

bruno ,   JHB, South Africa   (11.22.11)
It seems to me that the warmongers here appear to think that an attack on Iran is some sort of solution. As though the will be a day of attacks and the Iranians will fold and say : " OK, you win". I'm afraid they are deluding themselves. That will be the start of the war, not the end. And that war will make the invasion of Iraq look like a small squib by comparison. Wake up, people!
