If you live in Israel you will hear the racist comments from far too many Israeli "natives". Many mock, cheat and degrade Americans. Most of whom are Jewish vistors and those who made aliyah. One only need look at what the "natives" Israelis have involved themselves in the US as far as their business to American people. Fake promises of beauty and mass produced art sold to old grannies as if they were famous artists. Lets not even mention the contraband issues. Who thinks all Americans are friars? Are our US children "opportunities" for addiction and trade? Are Israelis "hiyalim" human labor commodities to be over worked and under paid? To be put in jeopardy and in harms way with illegal labor and product sales in the US? Even the treatment of the different movements of American Judaism are greatly mocked and declare "not Jewish" If the average American Jewish person heard the truth about these not so silent racists they of course would find offense. Some even claiming that major streams of American Jews are from invalid conversions (not sephadim). While they are allowed to do business in the US freely, try and open an only American owned business in Israel food industry. Torah requires "one weight" for doing business (aka don't cheat anyone but deliver the same for all consumers). Torah requires that we recognize in righteousness good and evil. It also requires "choose life" to remain long in the land. A warning is given to those who dwell in the land and "walk as they see fit". To remain in Israel and to become distant from choose life and righteousness is nothing short of suicide of Israels existence. "Not Jewish" The world is pulling out sabres and flashing them. As much as I would like to live in Israel again, I lived there for 9 years, and every single day I was there, I heard "why are you here, you're a friar". I love Israel with all my heart. I see Israels achievements with pride, and I feel an unshakable bond with the Jewish state, not to mention, my heart bleeds when I see Israeli soldiers/ civlians get killed by the enemy. After reading most of the talkbacks, the underlying issues are self-evident. The reason there is such a rift among Jews of different backgrounds and philosophies is that each thinks their way is the only way and has utter contempt or disregard for the others' views. If we Jews cannot bury our differences and tone down our rhetoric against each other, then those differences will bury us. As one of the remaining Jews who remember the prewar period, I think that too many critics of what Jews didn't do to stop the Holocaust miss a basic truth. They confuse the situation of Jews in the U.S. before and after the war. Before the war, we were the other, excluded from hotels and restaurants, subject to admission quotas in colleges, not employed by big corporations like Dupont, AT&T, railroads, etc, had elected Jews in Congress only from Jewish districts, had an average income below the national norm, etc. Being raised in a non-Jewish neighborhood, I was physically attacked for being Jewish. Under the circumstances Jews here did what they could to help Jews abroad.
