Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (12.11.11)
32. Oh boy
JVL ,   LA, USA   (12.11.11)
It's just so much easier living amongst the Gentiles.
33. Excellent article
Jeff ,   San Francisco, USA   (12.11.11)
What a refreshing analysis of the challenges facing the Orthodox world. Thank you for an excellent interview and for Rabbi Hartman which is trying to show a more caring, humanistic side of Judaism
34. #19-29:
Israeli 2   (12.12.11)
WAKE UP LEFTISTS! Do not deride the RIGHT of people who feel Jewish differently than you. There may be many things you may not agree with them, but religious zionism is NOT dead. It never was and it never will be. It is alive and well(Baruch Hashem) in medinat Yisrael!
35. have a heart and common sense
nahtan ,   J-M   (12.11.11)
The Dati Leumi will continue to grow despite our detractors on the right and left .. We don't kowtow to the "politically correct " leftists nor to the anointed "Gadol Hador" We are B'nei Chorin and we live our lives with joy and pride in our accomplishments in all positive spheres of Israeli life. The Hartmans will never be competition for us- not even in the "moral high ground".
36. Fake, feined innocence!
Yehoshua   (12.11.11)
My post doubtless will be censored, but still I make an attempt. The tone, especially the nauseating feined, pathetically transparent "caring for the future of the Jewish people" at the end by both men is truly distasteful. Everbody who has a tiny modicum of intelligence can see that this interview (along with recent op-eds) from the "sector" has just one and only one thing to do: discrediting the sector with syrupy nonsense and veiled fussing about "the" Jewish people and the future fate of the country whose motives are wholly political and blatantly leftist. It's utterly disgusting. Indeed, why does Ynet repeatedly blocks and thus punishes me by censoring my right to take part in the debate just because I *dare* to point out that the Leftist King is naked???! This old senile clown can no one to blame but only himself if his slandering, filthy words and nefarious smears trigger ill-will, hostiltiy and disgust in others whom he so wantonly judges out of purely narrow ideological/political motives. Why does Ynet beleive we are all stupid idiots it failes me. Yes, "land" is more important than terrorists, traitors and inside enemies. What's so curious about this? Yes, nideed *we* *are* better than them (the plebs, the "intellectuals" and the hypocrites included in them).
37. Right on, Rabbi Hartman.
MAP ,   Bnei Brak Israel   (12.11.11)
38. #12 WELL SAID ,EXACTLY RIGHT
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.11.11)
True Torah jews fight wars and farm the land. Those who don't are of no use .
39. Yoni,Tzvi and some other here- you just proves how right he
(12.11.11)
He should do tshuva"???? you should do it!!!! You are right- Judaism is an amazing way of life and you support the exact people who destroy it day by day!! Did you really read what he had to say here....?? Do you want to tell me you support total separation of men and women??? Not allowing women to sing??? IS THAT JUDAISM FOR YOU???? YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE OF TURNING THIS AMAZING COUNTRY INTO ANOTHER SAUDIA/AFGHANISTAN!!! ISRAEL WILL BE DOOMED IN THE NEXT 10-20 YEARS WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN CHARGE Note- I can see Ynet censor such kind of comment.. why? because it don't bash this Rabbi like many here tend to do. Didn't know Ynet also wants to see Halacha law implemented in Israel- in such a scenario Ynet will be shut down very quickly...
40. BIG ISRAEL: politically secular, cultural CORE traditional.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (12.11.11)
41. After 80 years he still dont get it.
Eli ,   Israel   (12.12.11)
I dont know which Torah he has been reading but one thing is for sure, his age is taking toll on his logic and sense of reality. Its time to take the pain medication and drift off, enough with the lunacy. Eretz Yisrael is for Am Yisrael. The entire Torah speaks of the land of Israel for the Children of Israel, this Rabbi must of had Reformist edjucation by cowardly self hating Jews, we have these people come and go, move along, Religious Zionism is just getting started, fasten your seatbelts cause we are taking over and God loves it. Kiddush Hashem is what counts.
42. Im with Hartman!
Ben-Ami ,   Givatayim, Israel   (12.12.11)
I never comment on articles, but this one in particular has moved me to do so. I grew up in a chassidic community and most of what the Rabbi says rings true for me. I am young, but early on I was disillusioned by my rabbis' penchant for the trivial. I remain religious but l feel a tremendous disconnect from these men who have very little idea of what is transpiring beyond the yeshiva walls. I have many friends who feel the same way. To those who criticize the Rabbi: you may disagree with his thoughts but the fact is you are losing many of your finest. As for me, the next time Im in Jerusalem, I will seek out his institute. Shalom.
43. Jewish people don't understand each other.....
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (12.12.11)
He is advocating his own ideas instead of promoting peace, understanding and acceptance of philosophical diferences in jewish society.
44. R. Hartman
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.12.11)
I agreed and disagreed with this article. I do believe that there are some Israelis who "take Israel for granted," nevertheless, it's OURS and G-d gave it to us. Oh, and RE: the Charedim who don't look at women or hear them sing, I say: SHEY LO ASANI ISH!
45. Bravo, courageous & well-stated!
Rafi ,   US   (12.12.11)
May you return to good health soon!
46. Black and White huh
David ,   Netanya   (12.12.11)
As opposed to following everything to a tee because if you miss a single thing than everything is worthless.
47. He is bright and right , judaism is a open minded religion
rachel ,   usa   (12.12.11)
The religious should not be the Talibans
48. JEWISH KINDNESS
michael ,   london   (12.12.11)
Before anyone starts I am extremly right ring. Can no one see what this great Rabbi is saying. The day a JEW goes out and burns down a building for the sake of some land (very holy land) and won't even achieve anything by it is a SAD day. The day a JEW questions if he should save another humans live is a SAD day. Were jewss we shouldn't have to question That gut feeling we have, our human nature. Forgot his political views can you not see the human jewish side of this. Why should we sink to such low levels in order to achive something. Hashem said when we are building the bet ha migdash not to use metel as metel is used for war, so WHYY should we fall down to such levels that we burn down a building or kill an arab in order to build OUR land. And yes I do think we should have jeruslem and judea and samaria but we should achieve it in a JEWISH and MORAL wayy
49. God religion israel
yoav david ,   brookline , ma   (12.12.11)
so sad so confusing !
50. Israel needs more rabbis like this one
Steven A. ,   Bay Area, USA   (12.12.11)
51. Hartman is a man of many truths
Avramele   (12.12.11)
I once had tea with Yosef Burg when he was a minister in one of Begin's government. The very wise Mizrachi Zionist, z"l, said of himself, "you know, I am a centrist and sometimes being a moderate is a very radical place to be". May R. Hartman live to be 120!
52. Timeless message - great stuff!
stu ,   ny   (12.12.11)
53. Rabbi Hartman Has Some Valid Points
Nicole Czarnecki ,   B'HaGalut   (12.12.11)
Associating with the New Israel Fund may be misguided, but so's following Haredi Yahadut-- which is not based on Tanakh.
54. My family knows him for decades
disgusted ,   jerusalem israel   (12.12.11)
My family has known mr. hartman since childhood. He speaks only what people want to hear. When he'll speak to a Haredie he'll sound Haredie, secular - secular ect. ect. His ideas start and end how to find favor in others eyes. He couldn't care less what the Torah wants rather he bends the Torah to his populistic fancy.
55. Comments Make his Point
Ed ,   USA   (12.12.11)
You don't have to look far to see what Hartman is talking about: Read the comments here.
56. I read the interview with him in the paper addition
couldn't agree more   (12.12.11)
As a secular Israeli I hope more religious Israelis will listen to this very smart and noble man.
57. 18 Israeli2 I agree with you.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.12.11)
And i also want to add my experience, that being connected to G-D by observing the Halahot and having TOTAL confidence in HIM,keeps people mentally young in their advanced age.Old people have no room for bitterness, in their heart which is always filled with joy. Reading all your TBs i thought you are very young. Go on like that for many many years.
58. 17 Logic ,power corrupts ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.12.11)
59. Haredi cult is a pervertion of Judaism
PO ,   Ramat Gan,IL   (12.12.11)
... and it is disrupting the democratic, advanced, Israel I used to know. Haredim are worste enemy to Israel than the Arabs...
60. The Heart full of love, seat of intelligence=Hartman
Robert ,   U.S.   (12.12.11)
Rabbi Hartman thank you, at 80yrs of age your soul will never be troubled with death and you wisdom will make you immortal amongst us, the living. In all of this, your discourse, I have seen a heart full of love, the right love of Israel and it may be the seat of intelligence,,,,, in some people,,, but definitely in you.
