66. Undemocratic bill...
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland, NZ   (01.11.12)
...it is not. It would have been undemocratic if only those who served in the IDF only (no alternative service) were allowed to vote. Voting is open to every citizen. As it should be, although an american model of denying voting rights to criminals would be attractive too. National service is open to everyone not eligible to serve in the IDF, be it haredi, or new immigrant. Arabs, by the way do serve in IDF and some of them are highly decorated for examplary service. Kudos to them.
67. Only Wisdom and Loyalty Should Matter
Alan Friedlander ,   NYC, USA   (01.11.12)
A PhD who loves the nation but made aliyah after 40 would be barred from running for Knesset? Laws need to be founded on logic. Requiring a college degree would make more sense, but even such a prerequisite I would oppose, as it would be biased against those sectors of society who do not highly regard college, yet still deserve democratic representation despite their views.
68. to number 4
kfir97 ,   toronto   (01.11.12)
there are arabs and charedim who do serve in the army, serving in the knesset is a privelige which should only come about after doing your obligation why should non draftees who didnt do the most basic obligation, have the ability to pass laws
69. Jerry #56 how is that
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.11.12)
Please explain how it is undemocratic exactly?
70. And handicapped who couldn't serve in the IDF but wanted to?
Esther ,   Netherlands   (01.11.12)
Are people in a wheelchair also not eligible for MP?
71. anti democratic bill
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (01.11.12)
This bill is highly anti-democratic. There are many legitimate reasons why a person did not serve in the IDF such as state of ones health or age when immigrated. A proper bill for becoming a candidate to be a member of Knesset is to pledge support for the existence of the state of Israel as a Jewish state and agree to adhere to all the laws of the country.
72. #23 - if he did, he would be exempt
William ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
Your son did not run from his obligation nor act hostile towards the State and its people. He would be exempt under this new law which is perfectly fair.
73. #64 - Please look up "List of Jewish Medal of Honor
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.11.12)
Recipients" on Wikipedia. You will see not only a list of Jews who got the MoH, but also the numbers for how many died in some of the places. All are well-sourced. Please do research before making false statements. If that does not convince you then please visit Arlington Cemetery and look for the Jewish graves marked with Stars of David.
74. #64 sandro, #73 henry
solomon ,   bklyn   (01.12.12)
I have also seen the graves marked with Stars of David in the American Cemetery in Normandy. And there are many more in the American Cemetery in Anzio, etc, etc, etc.
75. Sandro, facts intstead of your bullshit
