1. Good to see some cooperation, but tree-processing plant?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.08.12)
We call those "lumber mills".
2. Peace
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (02.08.12)
This is how peace will be made - people to people.
3. Co-Existing
Gideon ,   Galut   (02.08.12)
This is beautiful! May there be more of this. What an amazingly inspiring act of true understanding and co-existence. If Ynet is going to support co-existence thought they should stop using the biased and emotionally charged terms of "settlement" when describing Jewish towns and "villages" when describing Arab towns; attributing a legitimacy to the Arabs not granted to the Jews. Would you call Arabs living in Pre-1967 Israel, "Arab settlers" and Um Al Fahm an "Arab settlement"? Co-existing means existing together, and is advanced by discouraging acts or words that encourage segregation such as libeling Jews as "settlers" and promoting Arabs as "villagers". G-d Bless the Arabs and Jews who took the time to see each other as equals, living side-by-side in peace in Judea & Samaria. This, is true peace!

6. Jews and Arabs planting trees together will not solve..
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.08.12)
..anything, since it is not co-existence nor co-working that bring peace but the emotions, feelings and intentions of people. And there is nothing wrong about Jews claiming factually that Israel is our ancestral Jewish homeland in which we Jews have lived for 4000 years - that includes Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and Gaza - which is no longer under Israeli control. There is nothing wrong to speak the truth and say loudly and proudly: "The land of Israel - all of it, every grain of sand of it, including Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and Gaza, is the national home and ancestral, historical, present, future and eternal homeland of only one people - the Jewish people." Claiming that planting trees together will honestly and seriously change the racist anti-Semitic sentiments among the vast majority of Arabs in Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem, Israel and Gaza and in fact - the vast majority of the Arabs of the Middle East, is nothing but naive and wishful thinking. While it's good to see that cultured, peaceful and civilized Jewish behavior can indeed be met every now and then by equally peaceful and cultured Arab emotional response is good to see and hear, but will not change the fact that Israel is our land and that Arabs have NO moral, ethical, legal or historical right to claim a single grain of sand of our land. In the same way as Turks can live as a minority in Germany, and Germans can live as a minority in Poland and Italians can live as a minority in Austria, Arabs too can live in Israel - as de facto foreigners and strangers and as a small, tiny almost non existent minority. The current situation of having 1.5 million Arabs in Israel, 1 million plus in Gaza and 1.5-2 million Arabs in Judea and Samaria is de facto nothing else but the demographic and physical Trojan Horse and pawn and extended political arm of the Arab world to Arabize Israel - which of course will never happen. Real peace is when the Arabs and the world treat Jews equally - and that includes our human, civil, national and territorial rights.
7. THE ''ISRAELI'' PEOPLE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE, THE PALESTINIAN/A
A WONDER-SJOERD R. ,   MULTIVERSE   (02.08.12)
ARABICAL PEOPLE OF MANKIND (ON THE PLANET OF EARTH). VIVA TO THE ''ISRAELIAN'' PEOPLE, TO THE JEWISH PEOPLE, TO THE PALESTINIAN/ARABICAL PEOPLE. TO EVERY OTHER PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, ALWAYS, SINCE THE BEGINNING( OF THE HISTORY) OF MANKIND, ON THE PLANET OF EARTH (AND ALSO IN THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE-STATION, WHICH IS STILL CIRCLING AROUND THE/OUR PLANET, SINCE ABOUT THE YEAR 2000.)

"...it is not co-existence nor co-working that bring peace but the emotions, feelings and intentions of people..." Precisely. Of course, some might say that such beligerent, immature emotions and intentions are the very antithesis of peace.

12. To nr 9 - Does "peace" entail British imperialism in Israel.
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.09.12)
..the broader Middle East, Africa, India, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas? Would "peace" entail artificially created "Arab" states by the British empire, without any genuine, real or authentic history, purpose or identity? Would that entail the creation of the entirely artificial Kingdom of Jordan whose Hashemite royal family comes from Saudi Arabia? And Iraq - which has never existed in recorded human history? Does "peace" entail 1400 years of Moslem hatred for and mass murder on Jews? Would "peace" entail Arab and Moslem land theft of Jewish land and theft of Jewish lives and freedom? Would "peace" entail one civilization (Arabs) destroying another civilization (Jews) with falsification, denial and even theft of 4000 years of Jewish history in Israel? Would "peace" entail one civilization claiming exclusive rights to the entire region, and destroying all other nations and civilizations in the region with land theft, falsification and denial of those nation's history, demographic warfare, illegal immigration, terrorism, kidnappings, boycotts, racist genocidal ideologies and so on? That sound awfully lot like IMPERIALISM, RACISM, EXPANSIONISM, THREATS, BLACKMAIL, WAR MONGERING and planting the seeds of self doubt so that the victim civilizations or target civilizations, would willingly commit collective national suicide as to avoid the great anger of the imperialist civilization. For that's exactly the kind of "peace" anti-Semitic Arabs and Moslems have in mind and that's precisely what a genocidal hateful, evil, malign anti-Semite such as yourself have in mind Bertram. Read my post again: NEVER said I a single word of conquering someone else's land or commiting any genocide. All said was that Israel is my homeland just like any nation can claim their respective homelands. As I said: as long as the world denies 4000 years of Jewish history in Israel and equal Jewish human, civil, national and territorial rights there will never be peace.
13. To # 9 Bertram - the imperialist tea drinking nation
Proud Republican ,   Dallas, Texas, USA   (02.09.12)
Alexander stated nothing but facts little boy. Neither the Bible nor the Koran nor any ancient civilization in the Middle East ever speaks of any "Palestinian" people or nation or state. Christianity and Islam come from Judaism. Our alphabets, and yes indeed the Latin, Greek and Russian alphabets are all derived from the Hebrew alphabet. Also: the ancient Egyptians and indeed the Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Romans, Greeks and great parts of the ancient Middle East all speak of Jews and Israel in ancient times. You can simply ask any relevant and serious historian. ALL what Alexander stated is 100% true and factual. Speaking about peaceful intentions, how do you explain the British empire? And when will UK disintegrate and when will the English leave Scotland and Wales? You stated: "Precisely. Of course, some might say that such beligerent, immature emotions and intentions are the very antithesis of peace. " Alexander's last paragraph is: "Real peace is when the Arabs and the world treat Jews equally - and that includes our human, civil, national and territorial rights." So Alexander's statement is the antithesis of peace? Claiming EQUAL human, civil, national and territorial rights among all nations - that's belligerent and immature emotions?! Good God! Instead of hating Israel, maybe you should be mindul of what's going on in Londonistan, because UK is becoming a Moslem country and you'll be without a home.

17. To #12 & #13
Bertram ,   London, UK   (02.09.12)
I have been called many things in my life, but never an antisemite. If you are right then I can only conclude that I must be one of those 'self-hating Jews'. That in itself is a hateful phrase employed to dismiss the arguments of anyone who is Jewish and who just might be a little critical of overblown nationalist rhetoric.
18. great news

i hope peace now sees this article and sees what type of people are both the jewish residents of judea and samaria and what coexistence can look like....thank you efrat for being a beacon of light for the tarnishef land of israel movement by building bridges with you neighbors

As a resident of a long established Jewish village in Samaria, living in co-existence with local Arabs, despite sporadic attacks by them on the roads, thefts from our property and other difficulties, I agree that Jewish villages and Arab villages are the correct terms. Of course the PA propaganda machine refers to Tel Aviv, Haifa etc. as "settlements" so its just a word game by Ynet in search of material to attract readers.
20. At the end of the day...
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.09.12)
At the end of the day, the Palestinian children ceremoniously uprooted the trees and, blaming the settlers, turned to international aid groups for assistance. The Jewish children meanwhile spray-painted "price tag" and anti-Islamic slogans on a nearby mosque, while stoning Israeli soldiers who arrived on the scene to calm the atmosphere. The organizers said they were happy to see the children using the Israeli Arbor day as an opportunity to play out real life scenarios and vendettas.
21. Tree processing plant
Yitzchak ,   Jerusalem   (02.09.12)
It is not a tree processing plant, but a stone processing plant, that is why there is a dust problem.
22. Good news

Nice to see some good news for a change!
23. Yes wellllll
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (02.09.12)
That the planting of trees together is so newsworthy...that whats so ridiculous We can achieve so much more together than planting trees - better economic relations, more employment for Palestinian workers from the West Bank and remittances to their families, cooperation on water, transport, medical services, culture, sport, agriculture... Still cant grumble about planting trees..I just want MORE And Abbas CAN help the process by stopping the institutional promotion of Anti Israel and Anti Jewish propaganda How does he expect Palestinians to cope with these crazy MIXED MESSAGES - on the one hand welcoming cooperation with Israel and on the other hand demonising Israel at every opportunity?
24. Heartwarming, isn't it?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.09.12)
Can we get a reason for why the Arab lumber processing plant owner was allowed to operate a plant that emitted toxic substances into the air to begin with? I don't think that a grove will stop carcigenoic substances from being released into the air. SHUT HIM DOWN!
25. thats not what happened last time they planted trees
zionist forever   (02.09.12)
The palestinians have somehow found the money to build the city of Rawabi, nice little city for the rich and middle classes. The JNF disgustingly spend thousands of dollars of donated money to plant thousands of trees in Rawabi a nice goodwill gesture which is probably against the terms of their charter. Well as soon as the palestinians realized all these nice trees had been donated by the JNF they ripped them all up. What the Jews & arabs did together on Tu B'shvat was done for mutual benefit not a peace making goodwill gesture of some kind so nothing to get to excited about.

This is in response to Gideon's comment, "Co-Existing." I think the connotations you are reacting to can be attributed to more accurately describing the time references.
