31. #23 - why is being Israeli relevant to the topic of heroism?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.14.12)
There's a lot of heroic Israelis, but I don't get why you bring up her being Israeli as having anything to do with heroism.
32. #19 - Ah, I see now. We learned that word in Hebrew
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.14.12)
but I had no idea that it also meant hero. Yes, I wasn't trying to belittle what she did as I doubt most of us would get out of shock quickly enough to get away from the vehicle. Believe it or not Edithann actually made me think of a good point. She could easily become a hero of course just Shalit did. Shalit helped Israelis to come together for a common goal and inspired the nation. He didn't mean to of course, but through his captivity he became a hero. Pollard tried to do something that could be considered noble. He spied for what he felt was a higher cause and reminds us all that we should work towards a higher goal.
33. I pray for a speedy, full and quick recovery
Scott ,   Haifa   (02.14.12)
34. Who really did this?
Ariel ,   Toronto Canada   (02.14.12)
I recall that on the Israeli channel, Israel inteligence are sure that the Iranians sent this motorcycle rider with the magnetic explosive device to attach it to her car. This was done, in order to revenge to all those Iranians who were killed in the same manner, and as it was 4 years ago when a terrorist that I don`t want ot write here his name was killed with an explosive cell phone that was handed to him.
35. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.12)
Actually, the lion is associated with Israel. In case you are unaware, the creature associated with Iran is -- well -- the peacock. We know who is going to win that encounter. Peacocks cannot even fly.
36. magnetic?
observer ,   Egypt   (02.14.12)
is is it practically feasible for a light magnet to hold the weight of explosive and detonator stuck to the rear of a Toyota car?
37. #30 - if the many cars with diplomatic plates in NYC are any
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.14.12)
Indication, then yes, yes they do.
38. #36 - who said it was a light magnet?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.14.12)
39. #38 with Toyota RAV4 Spare Tire Cover at rear,
observer ,   Egypt   (02.14.12)
you have to have either light magnet light explosive, or heavy magnet heavy explosive combination. The kind of the explosion didn't indicate heavy explosion!
40. @30 &37 clarification: the cars r privately owned by
just explainin' ,   over here   (02.14.12)
embassy personnel the car's license plates are diplomatic. The diplomatic plates on the privately owned cars grant the cars a form of diplomatic immunity (and as we have seen in the case of New Delhi id the car as a target) There are some countries which instruct their diplomats to use ordinary license plates and keep the diplomatic ones in the car's boot (trunk) or under the driver's seat. So that generally with the exception of the Ambassador's car which is directly owned by the country he represents all other cars displaying diplomatic plates are privately owned.
41. @12 while what u say is true...
Star of David ,   is a symbol 2!   (02.14.12)
u forgot that from very ancient days many royal houses have used the peacock as a symbol of immortality. So no we don't know who is going to win "that" encounter. Only G-d has that intell info! just sayin'
42. @38 a light magnet can hold plastic explosives tightly
(02.14.12)
but then you knew that right?
43. Cynthia # 8
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (02.14.12)
I suppose that if you are retarded you might as well demonstrate it on this forum. Thanks for letting us know and sharing that with us Cynthia.
44. To: No. 39
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.12)
How do you know? Were you there? Are you an auto mechanic? Do you have experience in attaching explosives to automobiles in motion? Which is it? Go ahead -- dig your own grave.
45. To: No. 40
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.12)
Actually, that's not quite accurate. All embassy vehicles with diplomatic plates are owned by the embassy. Attack a vehicle with embassy plates is tantamount to attacking the embassy, which is tantamount to attacking the nation to which those embassy plates are issued. What that boils down to is that Iran attacked an official embassy vehicle of the State of Israel, which is tantamount to an attack upon the State of Israel. Just explainin'.
46. @44 he's just doin' what u taught him by ur example!
(02.14.12)
that is he's blabbing away at full speed to show what an intelligent lawyer he is! Really nothing wrong with that. Unless of course you are jealous?!
47. #18 John R, sorry I mean John L
Phil ,   Ireland   (02.14.12)
And why do you think Israel would kill Iranian scientists? Something to do with Iran threatening Israel with destruction perhaps?
48. Actually Sarah B, 40 is correct cars r privately owned...
Israeli ,   Israel   (02.14.12)
u r partially correct by citing that attacking a diplomatic vehicle = attacking the country the vehicle is attached to via its diplomatic plates. However, you will do well to go and review the various levels of diplomatic immunity as well as reviewing all issues related to "territorial fiction" created by diplomatic immunity and diplomatic identification of any and all types. (Sometimes your wise A$$ comments show how you go off half cocked and miss instead of hitting on the spot)
49. Ms. B u r wrong, all Israeli Diplomats own their cars....
FM employee ,   Jerusalem   (02.14.12)
with the exception of Ambassadors who are provided with cars by the State of Israel. You should consider being less pompous and blindly all knowing; it would make it easier for you to learn new things about Israel.
50. To: No. 48
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.12)
Actually, you could not be more wrong. There is no such thing as "various levels of diplomatic immunity." You either have it or you do not. Moreover, any vehicle with diplomatic plates is assumed to have diplomatic immunity -- even if the resident janitor is driving that vehicle. Immunity may not extend to the driver -- although in the instant case, it certainly did -- it attaches to the vehicle with diplomatic plates and, by extension, to those authorized to drive those vehicles. That is a matter of recognized international convention. Do you think it is possible for you to stick your foot in your mouth any deeper than your silly and grievously uninformed comment at No. 48 already has? Doubtful, frankly. You would do well to stay away from subjects about which you are dismally uninformed. Just a suggestion. Or do you like humiliating yourself by putting your abysmal ignorance on public display?
51. To: No. 49
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.12)
You are wrong. Privately owned vehicles are not issued diplomatic plates. Only vehicles accredited to the embassy or consulate of a particular nation are eligible to carry diplomatic tags. That's a matter of international convention. Foreign ministry employee, are you? What do you do, swamp out the toilets? You would be well-advised to stick to that which you know -- and doubtless do -- best. I'm sure you take wonderful care of your mop.
52. Sarah B. go look @Roberts rules of order & rules of debate
Rachel ,   Israel   (02.14.12)
then you will learn that by attacking 48 and 49 on a personal level you have clearly shown that you are out of arguments. You have clearly shown that you have no idea what you are talking about. The TBers you are attacking are on point and have brought reliable information...your information is inaccurate and unreliable. ***** Hint: levels of diplomatic immunity of diplomatic cars can be learned via signature on diplomatic plates: i.e. 1. CC = Corps Consular & has certain levels of immunity 2. CD = Corps Diplomatique (from the French = Diplomatic Corps) 3. there is a third category of diplomatic plates for diplomatic service personnel Another way to learn is to go read all of the relevant conventions related to diplomatic immunity
53. Sarah B. there are 3 different categories of diplomatic
(02.14.12)
immunity as outlined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961) The three categories are: 1. Diplomatic 2. Consular 3. International Organization personnel Instead of being mean spirited you should educate yourself and then you would be less frustrated.
54. Get off Henry's back!
Sean ,   Montreal, Quebec   (02.14.12)
Putting oneself in harms way to save another human being goes counter to self preservation and thereby qualifies as heroic...as opposed to self interest. Had he mentioned that when bombs are attached to innocent Iranians driving to work, Ynet does not refer to the culprits as terrorists, or if he had mentioned that this appears to be little more than an effort on the part of certain Israeli's to further demonize Iran, then okay we would expect you to cackle. By the way Birdi you are right. You don't know what heroism is. the entire episode is laughable. Got the lemmings chirping though.
55. From the dictionary: Look at #1
Avishai ,   Tel Aviv   (02.14.12)
he·ro   [heer-oh] noun, plural -roes; for 5 also -ros. 1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. 2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child. 3. the principal male character in a story, play, film, etc.
56. henry initiates pointless debate.
american   (02.14.12)
What a silly string of talkbacks. My question deals with the article itself. It it's confusing. Did she realize what was going on and jump out seconds before or did it explode with her in the car? Article says both happened which are mutually exclusive.
57. # 3 She is a hero, because she frustrated
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.14.12)
the enemy,by jumping out from the car and saving herself.
58. # 12 gratshke ! your mighty lion is a starving kitten
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.14.12)
all it's assets are used to fight 2 enemies,Israel, and the Iranian people,it will be defeated by both.
59. india & terrorists
joel ,   usa   (02.14.12)

60. What fortunate luck it happened BEFORE she picked up kids
William ,   Israel   (02.14.12)
