1. The poor are indeed disadvantaged..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.01.12)
if only private cars are allowed on Shabat. The best thing that could happen to Jerusalem,is no cars at all on Shabat.
2. bus
marianne van Geuns ,   ramat hasharon   (05.01.12)
not only Jerusalem or Tel Aviv ,but the hole country need busses on Shabath,It is up to you if you get in the bus .so simpel !!!!!!!!!!!
3. Secular PARASITES!
Allan ,   PT   (05.01.12)
They sit on G-d's Land, don't serve in the army, don't keep any of Torah commandment and have the audacity to request that buses run on Shabbat in the Jewish country. WHAT RIGHT DO THEY HAVE CHASING ARABS OUT OF ISRAEL IF NOT FOR THE TORAH? If they don't want to keep the Torah, disagree with G-d's commandments, they should get out of Israel.
4. They can move to gaza, buses run 7 days a week there.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.01.12)
5. Ora , and everyone in the beth knesset ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.01.12)
What will you ask next time ? Every home shoulkd have a kosher , lemehadrin , kitchen ? All women should wear long skirts ? All men hats and tsitsit ? And pray to an inexisting god ? [ sorry , it's a reaction to your TB ] No , Ora , let EVERYONE enjoy the shabbat on his/her way , and there will be MORE respect and sympathy for the religious .
6. Allan , in MY town
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.01.12)
It's not god's land , it's the land we have thanks to the 6000 mostly seculars , if not anti religious , who gave their blood for this country . We have the rights on this land because of our history , the to0ra is nothing more than the history of the Jewish people . Most religious even OPPOSED the Zionist idea , opposed the creation of the State , and most of them even did'nt contribute to the creation of our reborn homeland .
7. #3 YOU SHOULD BE UPDATED
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (05.01.12)
Israel is NOT a Jewish state ! And the shmorah certainly not its constitution !
8. # 1
Henry ,   Holon, Israel   (05.01.12)
Obviously you are one the poor, but not necessarily financially.
9. Clarifications
American Sabrah ,   Israel   (05.01.12)
I agree with you overall. I see the double standard that the hilonim are trying to impose. They accuse the haredim for doing the exact same thing only instead of trying to enforce a theocracy, they want a Israel to be a secular state like Europe. Every country have a state religion so why can't we? In some countries, they have the blue laws which forbids operations of any business on Sunday. I would cast the blame on the Holocaust survivors and the irreligious ex-hassidim who founded the State on socialistic/communistic ideologies. Israel is a Jewish state and if you don't like it then leave. No one is forcing you to be religious or observe Shabbat. If you can't respect the traditions of your ancestors then you have no business being in this country. I am opposed having buses operated on Shabbat in areas that are mostly Jewish. However, I am in favor of a private sherut services running in hiloni areas. Haredim & Holinim : get a clue! Know where you live in and who you live amongst.
10. Buses on Shabbat -- food for thought
Ahuva ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.01.12)
As a religious person, I am against buses on Shabbat, but not for the reason you might think. I don't believe for a second that prohibiting buses will prevent people from desecrating the Shabbat. I am concerned that if buses are permitted to run on Shabbat, religious and traditionally observant bus drivers will be pressured to drive their routes on Shabbat...if that issue can be resolved, who am I to impose my beliefs on someone else?
11. 5 Charles, I thought it might be ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.01.12)
a good plan to get people s legs moving at least once a weak, and also to combatting the air pollution. I should have known that my SUGGESTION might have the same effect as messing with the bull; i got the horns .. [your irritating: inexisting...] . I have no one to blame but myself, but still,It was not nice of you ,to say the least.
12. Put it to a vote?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.01.12)
Maybe call work holiday on a thursday and have a referendum take place to decide on this issue?
13. What About The Trains?
BenG ,   New York City, USA   (05.01.12)
What about the trains on Shabbat? In Be'er Sheva the trains stop running a little bit past noon on Friday. So, the buses are overcrowded, while some don't run go to places too far away to make it by sundown. We're not even talking about religious neighborhoods. We're talking about the whole country having to live this way.
14. Are you crazy? Take a taxi or walk....
This is ,   ISRAEL!!!!!!   (05.01.12)
And if you're Jewish, OBSERVE SHABBAT
15. 8 Henry,I am rich. as long ...

18. 6 Charles P.T. Your town was...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.01.12)
created by orthodox Jews.
19. 24/7 is part of the idiocy of modern, secular life
rick ,   walnut creek   (05.02.12)
we are not especially religious but we have made our lives richer, saner, more serene, by taking time out one day a week to free ourselves from the relentless imposition of noise, machinery, alarms, mechanical demands. Jerusalem definitely does NOT need bus service on Shabbat. if the good people of Tel Aviv want to completely surrender their lives to the machine, Heaven bless them. but there should be a refuge, somewhere, from that insanity. there is no better place for that refuge than Jerusalem.
20. "Shabbos goyim"?
transportation relat ,   New Jersey, USA   (05.02.12)
If religious employees don't want to drive on Shabbat, they shouldn't have to. Israel has plenty of Christians and Muslims on its soil. So why not provide non-Jews, casual Jews, and nonreligious Jews with the right to create and use bus services on Shabbat?
21. State religions
transportation relat ,   New Jersey, USA   (05.02.12)
" Every country have a state religion so why can't we?" It's ok for Israel to have one, but some countries do not have a state religion, or are explicitly secular. The US constitution bans the establishment of a state religion in America, and France is explicitly secular, but the UK has the Anglican Church, and Islam is a common state religion in the Mideast.

Lovely answer ORA.Shalom.
23. No. 14
NYC Girl   (05.02.12)
Since nearly every Israeli I know is not religious, I can pretty well assure you that your telling them to OBSERVE SHABBAT will probably only make them less likely to do so.
24. Ora , WRONG try # 2
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.02.12)
The uganda plan was a proposal by the british . The Zionist congres accepted to send a delegation there to inspect the territory . Their conclusions were negative . Plan rejected . I know that Petach Tikva was originally founded by religious men . So what ? this is maybe an exeption . Regarding your "it's good to walk" , do you try to make me believe that this was your idea behind your # 1 ? Sad to say , but here , for the first time , i don't believe you .
25. "Putting people at risk"?
Susan ,   Israel   (05.02.12)
... because they can't get to a restaurant or pub in the trendy restaurants and pubs of Shlomzion Hamalka Street? My goodness, how self-absorbed can people be? If you are going to lobby for public transportation on Shabbat, at least make a serious arguement.
26. 24 Charles,If i come up with a plan..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.02.12)
that is good for me,i ALWAYS think how it can also be good for the adverse party.I suggest you do the same,as this is the ONLY WAY a plan can work. I hope ,Charles, that it is for the first and the last time you don t believe me.
27. ORA , Your # 1
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.02.12)
was not refering to health . Coming from you , no hear on my head [ and i have plenty ] could imagine this . It was difficult for me to believe you . But OK , as you never told lies , i accept your explanation . But please be more explicite to avoid "bad" ideas about you . Did you hear about the death of Natan Ramet ?
28. Ora , Your # 1 TRY # 2
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.02.12)

29. I think we can have bus on shabbat
Yossef   (05.02.12)
in J'llem if no one is forced to drive them or use them against their will. This would be fair and just.
