you are absolutely delusional!!! You need serious help!!

Please present any historical evidence to support your assertion that Israel has 'occupied' 'palestinian territory' and I don't mean the term 'occupied' as defined under 'international law' which merely reflects political bias, amongst other things. If the land is 'under occupation' as you say there must be a clear historical context to which you can refer to, an event or period in history when the land passed from it's rightful owner(s) to the 'occupier'. And if you can accomplish this simple task please state why the 'palestinians' would meet any reasonable criteria that defines 'ownership’ or entitlement to the land when no historical account prior to the 1960's mentions either a palestinian nation or an arab palestinian people. Notwithstanding the fact that the palestinians also never previously identified themselves as ’palestinians’ either. Finally please state why you reject the Jewish claim to the land of Israel which includes the west bank. In other words please explain why anyone with a good grounding in history should accept your 'opinion piece' over historical fact. You're way out of your depth so take your time no one else holding similar views to yourself has ever managed to present any evidence either and you won’t be an exception to the rule.

You're right that Israel doesn't want to give large numbers of palestinians Israeli nationality but Israel is entitled to annex as much of the west bank as is practicable and that means sparsely populated areas plus land with strategic value which Israel must retain for security purposes. A two state solution is no longer viable as even many palestinians now concede.
35. #30 correction
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.10.12)
The reason the attacks stopped is mostly due to IDF reliberating territories abandoned by Netanyahu and Barak to the Fatah terror organization. When Sharon thought of the idea for the fence (and as it was approved by the government) was a small barrier at certain places. It turned out Sharon lied and now the fence is used by the extreme-Left to choke the Jewish villages of Judea and Samaria and create Jew-free zones, trying to define the minimal borders of the terror state they are trying to build. A number of contractors with good connections have made lots of money. A postive side-effect of the fence is that reduction of theft and non-nationalist crime that skyrocketed as soon as soon as the government imported terrorist Arafat into Israel.
36. DrAlofs claims Arab invaders&immgrants as indigenous.
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (05.10.12)
The homicide bombers stopped because the Arabs kept trying but could not get through. So they switched to thousands of missiles which landed on Israeli homes, schools, kindergartens, hospitals indiscriminately . They justified your cause? Who are you kidding?

Joe ,   Florida, USA   (05.10.12)
F**** what the rest of the world thinks. The rest of the world condemns Israel for EXISTING. If Israeli's could cure EVERYONE'S cancer, the rest of the world would still feel the same. Hating Jews and hating Israel are just the things to do today. You fit if you hate Jews. This is why I say "F** what the rest of the world thinks. Israel will be condemned by global media whether it builds mile-high walls to protect itself or caves into pressure. Guess what? Israeli "ain't" cavin' in to jack sh**. Protect yourself Israel! The rest of the world will still hate Israel regardless of what it does. The world doesn't want Israel to make concessions. The rest of the world doesn't want Israel to give in. The world wants Israel to GIVE UP. The world wants Israel to be part of "what used to be" on this planet. Everything else is pure bullsh**.
40. To those who don't agree with Meotti,
Israella   (05.10.12)
it would be good if you would remember why the barriers/checkpoints were erected. It would also be good if you could stop harping on about 'land that doesn't belong to you' or 'stolen land' or 'occupation' or that 'Israel can exist just fine without checkpoints'. Frankly, these parrot-like comments are boring, show a lack of historical understanding and furthermore shows you to be totally ignorant of the security issues involved. You want to see all barriers come down? - go preach to those who are responsible for them having been put up in the first place. As to comment by Ben Alofs, your water thesis is rubbish, as always, and you know it but, since you are such an expert in these matters perhaps you could convince your Palestinian friends to set up the much needed 'infrastructure and institutions needed in the water sector' (as per another YNET article) which, to date, they have refused to do.

Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (05.10.12)
Forget about using well thought out, historically accurate, and morally upright arguments to change the minds of the leftists here. The leftists are only good for parroting "stolen land", "occupation" and "apartheid" because they are too lazy to educate themselves. Repeating propaganda is much easier than opening a book.
44. Checkpoints
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (05.10.12)
Actually, what Giulio Meotti writes is basically correct. He omits one basic point, though: The checkpoints are, in this instance, illegal because they defend a state that exists illegally.
45. ONLY Israel's is built on

someone else's property instead of following a border. Too sophisticated a concept for you to get it?
46. #21 There never was 'Jewish Lands'
Nina ,   NYC   (05.10.12)
it's a figment of your imagination. There never was a 'Kingdom of David' or 'King David', all that is fiction from a fictional book called 'Bible'. There has been ZERO, I repeat ZERO archeological evidence of a Jewish state anywhere in the area. Sure, there were some Jews who lived in the area, but there was never a state.
47. not factual
joao ,   portugal   (05.10.12)
the first assumption that you've made is wrong. It is not only Israel's wall that makes first cover or to have been condemned by the international community. All off them were, and everyone who is not consumed by fear or evil must realize that it is a shame that we have to use that type of things to feel safe. When the peoples of the world wake up and see for themselves that we as people do not inherently hate each other and that we are led to do so because of the economical and intelectual elites that loom above us, this earth will be a better place. until then, unfortunately, we will still have some ignorant people like you who think that fear is the answer. mazel tov fellow jew
48. #7 stolen land?
sk ,   USA   (05.10.12)
In order to own land you have to show LEGAL ownership and/or TITLE to the land. Yes a few rich Arabs in Israel have ownership of land within the boundaries of Israel, and this is uncontested. But the millions of dirt poor Arab Palestinians have NO LEGAL ownership of the land. Besides, Jews have been buying BACK their land from Arabs and other foreign land owners with legal title, starting in earnest from the late 1800s through today. Your logic of stolen land is pathetic, isn't backed by legal remedies, and is one BIG BULLKRAP political LIE!!!
49. To those who cry "stolen land"
Leo ,   Anywhere   (05.10.12)
Israel has no internationally recognized "border" with the West Bank. The "green line" is an armistice line, not a "border." The West Bank is technically ownerless. The land is legally disputed, not legally "Palestinian" and not "Jordanian." Until the status of the land is resolved, Israel can build on it to ensure its security because attacks have been launched against it from that territory. The fence (only 2% of it is a wall) is temporary, and does not stray much from the Green Line anyway.

Sam M ,   UK   (05.10.12)
There never was a 'kingdom of America' but it looks like it's here to stay built over the dead bodies of it’s indigenous inhabitants who were there for thousands of years before your forebears turned up and slaughtered them in their hundreds of thousands. There is, though, a wealth of evidence confirming the Jewish presence in the Land of Israel and Jews are certainly living on their ancestral land which is a far more credible claim than you can conjure up to justify your presence in 'NYC' assuming of course that you're not a direct descendant of one of the original tribes which I somehow doubt.
51. Concern or disdain for Jewish lives?
Wade ,   NYC USA   (05.10.12)
This is not a debate about facts. Those pretending to promote brotherly love as a substitute for self defense really do not care if Jews are murdered. We have to ignore them and embrace the defense. Those trying to delegitimize Israel wish the Jews would disappear from history. We have to ignore them and stand up for Israel, the Jewish Homeland and the key to redemption.
52. The barriers must stay till we drive our enemies out.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.10.12)
As the article notes, barriers are a neccessity to protect our civilians from murderous terrorists. The barriers must stay till we have the courage to drive our enemies from our land once and for all.

Sam M ,   UK   (05.10.12)
You're right none of the scores of palestinian terrorists who've been caught red handed since 2008 on their way to Israeli cities carrying explosives have been members of hamas, islamic jihad, the al aqsa martyrs brigade nor for that matter any other palestinian terrorist group. Neither have the aforementioned groups ever persuaded their supporters to carry out attacks since that time! Have you been raiding the drugs cupboard again you silly old fool? Or do you think they're all members of the Peace Corps! '...the important reasons why suicide attacks have ceased' as you put it is actually because Israeli security is second to none and needs to be to ensure that it's citizens aren't blown up going about their daily business. You seem to have an insatiable appetite for propaganda masquerading as truth and a complete inability to distinguish fact from fiction.
54. Israel too scraed to stand up to the WORLD
alan ,   usa   (05.10.12)
because you are the only ones always showing your cowardliness by always seeking world approval , you show low self esteem an lack of pride and strength, why should others show respect?
55. you said it
observer ,   Egypt   (05.10.12)
in the world, barriers are present between Countries. If you Consider the West Bank and Israel ONE country, you don't need a barrier. If those two, Israel & WB, are separate states; then the barrier should be in the border between the 2 states. Israel, signatory of treaty, cant even annex the occupied territory, neither can Israel pretend to annex it.
56. Cynthia, no.11, you can eat in the
The truth   (05.10.12)
meantime your apples and oranges or maybe continue being cynical. Who the hell cares. You don't grasp it anyway. We here are fighting for our lives, every day, quickly, smoothly and out of total conviction. If not, the alternative is sure death. We already know this the bitter way, the terrorist, sorry, the Arab terrorist way. Therefore, Cynthia, we don't give a farthing on what you scribble in your blog. believe me, it is totally irrelevant. What matters is keeping our lives intact, keeping our children's lives intact and building a Jewish future for them. On the other hand, we asked, we begged, we implored the Palis time and again to talk peace not war, to sit down and discuss, not terror, but so far they chose the destructive ways. No can do and no consideration for an inconsiderate and anti-Semitic public who would surely rejoice at our disaster or even worse, at our holocaust. Never ever. And I have news for you and your ilk, the land you are blah-blah-ing about has never belonged to those who falsely call themselves Palestinians. Better go fly a kite !

PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (05.10.12)
Try reading instead being so self righteous and superior and get the hell off other people land. Jews are indignous in Israel, you are not in the USA so go back to where you come from.,instead of telling others to do so. You can start with paying billions in compensation to Mexico Spain and the Indians The Arabs insisted on no recognised borders.,at best it is disputed land following Balfour, unlike your stolen land.
