1. Sacrifice?
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.05.12)
"our people made a major sacrifice when they accepted establishing their state on less than a quarter of the area of historical Palestine" First - when did they "accept" this? If it's accepted, then why the constant attacks on Israel? Second - Less than a quarter of "historical" Palestine? What history is he referring to? Maybe he means on less land than originally offered to them after they lost their wars of aggression? "this opportunity may not stay on the table for a long time" - How long has it been on the table? Has Bibi been notified? Oh...maybe it was put on the table after Abbas got ridiculed when he tried to get unilateral recognition of "Palestine"? Erdogan suggests that Israel is the hold up because they WANT to call the land "disputed"? Wasn't Gaza & the WB offered back to Egypt & Jordan and they refused so they could perpetuate the myth of the "Palestinian struggle"? As for the world's largest open air prison - it's of their own making and they elected the PA to be the guards! Just more typical Arab double-speak.
2. Yawn
Ed ,   USA   (06.05.12)
"Our people made a major sacrifice when they accepted establishing their state on less than a quarter of the area of historical Palestine." I guess that's right if you count Jordan in. Nothing about recognizing the rights of Jews to national self-determination. Nothing about the so-called "refugees." No recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem. Nothing has changed. What makes this news?
3. No to Two States.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.05.12)
It would be a mistake of historic proportions for the State of Israel and for the future of Jewish settlement in our homeland of Eretz Yisroel. By "signing away" our lands, we will create a near irreversible situation whereby we will be extremely hard pressed to reclaim our legitimate lands for years or even generations. Someone will always be able to point to this and say, "if you claim these are really your lands, why did you give them up? Your claim is not sincere." Our future claims on these lands will be shattered. Let it be clear that all talk of "making painful sacrifices" and that we must show "goodwill" to achieve peace will be laughed at the day after any treaty is signed. All the Arabs and the world will think is that the Jews are suckers.
4. If abu mazen and thanksgiving plate agree
2Mad ,   ירושלים, ארץ ישראל   (06.05.12)
then barak and olmert will follow. Fortunately, they can sign only for themselves.
5. Stumbling Block to Peace
Susan ,   Israel   (06.05.12)
I think the biggest stumbling block to peace is that Abbas and his people want my people to be dead. This is not about land and it's not about WHERE Jews live. It's about THAT Jews live. Mr. Abbas, Change the PA Charter and stop teaching your children to hate. When that's done perhaps then perhaps we can begin a discussion.
6. The land up till Eufrat river belongs to Israel
Jouko ,   Finland   (06.05.12)
7. Wait a second
Vlad   (06.05.12)
He wants a two-state deal, yet he's absolutely unwilling to budge from his demands for the "1967 borders", a divided Jerusalem, and the "return" of refugees. Anything less, and you will reject a two-state deal, even if Israel wants to sign. It's high time Israel annexed the settlement blocs and other important areas (of course, any Palestinians who live there will get citizenship, and will be happier than they were in the PA), and jointly administered the rest with Jordan.
8. Abbas' sacrifice
HL ,   USA   (06.05.12)
Perhaps he'll make a real sacrifice and return all the money in his swiss bank accounts.
9. Nerve!
Yosef Y. MSc' ,   USA   (06.05.12)
10. Nerve!
Yosef Y. MSc' ,   USA   (06.05.12)
Speaking of Chutzpah - this mazen arab outdoes the worst Israeli - what sacrifices- of a mythical Falastyn nation, on a 10 billion poverty world-sapping budget by now, with most of it stolen by their own "leaders" ?! LOL
11. One credibility boosting gesture, Abbas, just ONE!!!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.05.12)
Recognize Israel and its right to exist - and don't forget to walk with the document while you are at it : ) If you can't do that, forget it.
12. This land is ours. Pay "Palestinians" to leave.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.05.12)
There will be no Two State Final Solution. This tiny land is ours and has been ours for more than 3,500 years. Countless international law experts have incontrovertibly proven this land is ours. Pay "Palestinians" to leave. They are already leaving by the thousands annually, without Israeli compensation. WIth fair compensation, we could solve this problem within a few years.
13. 1967 Borders For State
Dan ,   Florida - Tel Aviv   (06.05.12)
Wake up Abbas, the 1967 borders are no more. You waged war and LOST, your dream of a state is forfeit and you WILL accept whatever the Government of Israel sees fit to give you. You are nothing more than a band of terrorists that have perfected turning lush agricultural land back to desert. Your people are excellent at destroying anything that improves your lives or is the underpinnings of an economy. In fact, Palestinians cut down trees planted by Israel. Palestinians keep trying to sneak into Israel to commit wanton acts of terror and to kidnap more soldiers to abuse and hold for ransom. THE '67 BORDERS ARE NO LONGER FOR YOU.
14. Wait...
Alex   (06.05.12)
A second... Israel have been on the pallys about this for a long time, but they have always refused, including Olmert's peace deal with land swaps. But now somehow they're urging Israel to sign a peace deal? Are they really that delusional? There will be no pally state unless they'll accept land swaps...
15. Israel exists, Palestine does not. Who missed opportunities?
Yaniv ,   Israel   (06.05.12)
16. Israel should make painful sacrifice and expel the Pallies!
Yaniv ,   Israel   (06.05.12)
17. its not about land
alsky ,   toronto   (06.05.12)
its about the destruction of Israel. Abbas will do it in stages. He is far more dangerous than Hamas
18. TBers #s 1,2,3,4,5 etc
Li ,   USA   (06.05.12)
It's all very nice to argue circularly. We are right, they are wrong, blah blah blah, again, and again. The central point Abbas discretely points out, backed up by the exact same observation from experts across the world, is that Israel is facing a threat it has never faced before, a threat that is accelerating rapidly. Do you want cute words for your epitaph? Israel must change strategy immediately. Or is rhetoric so much fun that realities don't matter?
19. Li 18
alsky ,   toronto   (06.05.12)
so you will go to the front lines when they attack once again. ? You need to study Israel's enemies better
20. #7 has it right....
MarcV ,   Miami, FL USA   (06.05.12)
Annex the settlement blocs now and declare the separation barrier the new border. It makes more sense for the remaining West Bank to be joined with Jordan than it does an independent state or a binational state with Israel. Egypt can have Gaza again.
21. To Ching Chong Li @#18:
Israeli 2   (06.05.12)
And...what is it to you? The epitaphs will be most likely on American, Russian, Chinese and Indian land before it is on JEWISH land. They tried for 2000 years and they came up with an even stronger JEW!!! Scary, huh???
22. He wants Israel to sign
Hunt S Cross ,   England   (06.05.12)
Here, he's refusing to negotiate. There, you have his ambassador to Lebanon declaring that Palestinian refugees won't become "ciizens of Palestine" so as not to interfere with their so-called right of return to Israel. Whatever happened to UN242? With Abbas, it's all smoke, mirrors and behind the scenes incitement.
23. Li, here's what Abu Mazen is worried about
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (06.05.12)
He's worried that the next dictator toppled in the so-called Arab Spring will be himself. He's not calling for peace, there is no Palestinian peace offer on the table. Instead, Abu Mazen has specifically stayed away from peace negotiations with Israel, hoping for a better deal from others. As for Turkey's PM Erdogan, he's proving himself to be little more than a violent populist who's looking to make cheap rhetorical points by bashing Israel. The man who is calling Israel "THE GREATEST THREAT TO REGIONAL PEACE" lives next door to Syria, who's government is slaughtering its civilian population to the tune of over 13,000 civilians and counting. Now, that violence is spreading into Lebanon which has its own history of secretarian violence and civil war. So, while Syrians are streaming into Turkey for a safe haven, the pompus blowhard from Istanbul is blustering about how Israel is causing all sorts of trouble - by existing and not kow-towing to his Islamist demands that they apologize for IDF soldiers defending themselves from Jihadists and wannabe Shaheeds aboard the Mavi Marmarra.
24. Abbas+the Palestinians should stop trying to BS Jews
Sam ,   Canada   (06.05.12)
Jews will not stand for any kind of double talk from the Palestinians. Two states doesn't mean 2 Palestinian states. Two states includes a Jewish state which Abbas has rejected. No more Oslo BS. Palestinians will have to openly accept a Jewish state for the LONG TERM and COMPROMISE on the core issues. It's time Jews stopped begging the Palestinians to make peace. Either the Palestinians are CLEAR on their commitments or else they should take a hike. Jews aren't better off with peace at any cost as the far-left and the West would have them do.
25. what a bunch of malarky
Arnold ,   Canada   (06.05.12)
Ancient Palestine IS ANCIENT ISRAEL. Palestine was the name given by the Roman Legion to the land of Israel. Palestinian Arabs have been killing Palestinian Jews for hundreds of years. There was never acceptance.
26. peace
desertson ,   london uk   (06.06.12)
Sometimes, Turkeys are worth listening to. Arabia used to be peaceful.
27. To: No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.06.12)
Israel can also annex Judea and Samaria and repatriate the Arabs illegally squatting there to Jordan, country of their citizenship. That's the reality.
28. There are none -67 border lines...!!
Beary hite ,   Norway   (06.06.12)
Those so-called lines are armistic lines. The pals have already a homeland; Jordan. It is time to move some islamic followers to where they belong. The only state in that area, verified by UN and Leagu of Nations, is Israel.
29. Larger Land Swap
zivron   (06.06.12)
With the dithering over ulpana it means a larger land swap for the Palestinian State. The USA. and IDF coordinate security iron.clad and with deterrant capacity.
30. Opportunity???
Barak ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.06.12)
Israel--don't turn your back on the opportunity to create another Gaza. We wouldn't want to miss that "opportunity" would we?
