I think 18 is talking about the "metzitmah b'peh" not about the brit mila itself .
32. #21&27 Metzitzah b'peh IS done in ALL orthodox circles
Dov   (06.10.12)
except in SOME modern orthodox all over the world. You don't know what you're talking about.

Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (06.10.12)
This discussion goes back many years and it is clear that Rabbonim are well aware of the potential danger and do not require this. I have been attending Haredi brisos for half a century and I do know what I am talking about. Those who oppose circumcision on various grounds do not use this as an argument because they know it is not a religious requirement.,
34. Dov. 'ALL Orthodox circles' 32
Danny ,   London England   (06.10.12)
Please read the article. It states, 'The ritual is conducted by very few sects within the Orthodox Jewish community.' As you probably know, many mohelim are also medical doctors, or they are trained by Orthodox medical doctors.
35. As far back as the 19th Century
Joseph ,   London UK   (06.10.12)
As far back as the 19th Century the Gaonim, the Chasam Sopher and Rabbiner Samson Raphael Hirsch opposed metzitzah b'peh, suggesting in place a sterile glass tube. More recently Rav Shlomon Zalman Auerbach wrote in favour of the sterile glass tube and most recently Rav Shmuel Kameneitzky stated his opposition to metzitzah b'peh.
36. not only Haredim
galilean ,   Israel   (06.10.12)
Just over 33 years ago I attended the brit of a Jewish baby of Moroccan descent. The Mohel performed this dangerous procedure on the new born. I was told that this is 'the way' to do it in the Moroccan Jewish community. I haven't seen it since, but on the other hand, I do not watch the brit anymore.
37. 28 , hashen can't be stupid
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.10.12)
because there is no hashem . And i , at least have a name , a true one .
38. being jew
EISENFELD ,   ASHKELON   (06.10.12)
Every act of affirmation of judaism is systematically objected or denied by the nations since 3000 years. What is dangerous in this world is to be jew.
39. "Do no harm" trumps everything else
Sailor ,   USA   (06.10.12)
#38 - Not sure what you mean. The only "act of Judaism" objected to by the article is metzitzah b'peh, not circumcision. I strongly question whether the metzitzah b'peh is an act of Judasim because of it's inherent danger to the newborn. The Jewish principle of "do no harm" trumps all practices that harm. Therefore those haredi rabbis who still practice metzitzah b'peh and the parents who permit it are not practicing Judasim, but something else.
40. OK, so 11 cases out of how many MILLIONS of circumcisions
Haim ,   Israel   (06.10.12)
performed over thousands of years! This is just laughable.
41. Chaim , learn to read !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.10.12)
11 cases since 2000 ! And those are ONLY those who were reported .
42. 37 Charles I have total confidence
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.10.12)
when you talk about Jewish history, which is your field. I believed you, closed eyes, when you stated that Begin was not orthodox. But since when are you the ultimate authority in Godly matters? What do you mean, there is no Hashem? I vehemently object to that. Do you know something Einstein didn t know? Einstein admitted that our world must have a Creator. May be you are still young enough,to know everything better? After this outburst, let me ask you , why a guy , having the heart and the brains in the right place, tries so hard,to tell people who KNOW FOR SURE that G-D exists ,the contrary? The best things in the world can not be seen, but are felt in the heart. May be we should look in this direction for G-D? Have a lovely night,Charles.
43. circumcision slandered in liberal new yorl
moron ,   GALUT   (06.10.12)
what happened to freedom of religion? what will nanny bloomberg propose to do about danger of anti-semitism disguised as heath concern?
44. #43 Hmm, wonder if he'll push to have it included in the
Obamacare health ,   plan??   (06.10.12)
45. # 11 Haim: read the article - 11 cases since 2000
(06.10.12)
So when does the Jewish value of "do not harm" become meaningful regarding b'peh - 20 cases since 2000? 30 cases since 2000? 50 cases since 2000? Where are your values?
46. Ora , i told you already
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.11.12)
that Einstein did'nt believe in a G-d [ for you ] as you see Him . He did'nt believe in a G-d [ again for you ] who punishes , who gives life or death . Einstein believed , as the free massons do , in "the great architect of nature" . I'm NOT an authority in godly matters , for me no god exists , that's all . When people come and tell here that "hashem" wants it to be done , that G-d loves his people , etc etc , i have to say what i think . I'll be in Our Capital today . Have a very fine day , Ora
47. Ora , i told you already TRY # 2

48. 47 Charles,do you know the meaning
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.11.12)
of Brit Mila? That is an alliance with G-D. Don t worry,i stop here, and keep unsaid my idea about the connection all the circumcized Jews have, volens no volens, with G-D. Since my priority is to respect your wish not to be brainwashed.Which is" so wie so" next to impossible. You are far to sane. I hope you had a fine day in Jerusalem.Did you find something worthwile , during the week of the book?
49. Ora
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.11.12)
For me a "brit mila" is only something that UNITES our people , that makes us belong to our people , not related to G-d [ even if originally it was this "alliance" ] So for you , only NOT sane people can be brainwashed ! Good to know it , and i'll remember this . Did'nt look for books , have plenty to read .
50. circumcision
jenny8181 ,   Kansas City USA   (06.11.12)
It's so hypocritical that we'd never tolerate a scape on our daughter's genitals but go ahead and cut our sons like there's no tomorrow.
51. 49 Charles, forget it !
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.11.12)
Can you advise me a good book?
52. 51 , Ora , forget what ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.12.12)
That only insane people can be brainwashed ? You know my fields of interests , i'm reading about them . So i can't give you any advice .
53. Jenny 50
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.12.12)
If you can't see the difference between the two , you should better remain silent . Circumcision was done to a GREAT % of US boys , not for religious , but for HEALTH reasons .
54. 38 Being Jew is not dangerous...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.12.12)
Indifference to evil acts is dangerous.
55. Ora 54 ? Being Jew not dangerous ???
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.12.12)
Why were SIX million of us MURDERED then ? And , i was arrested in 1944 , all the boys in the home where i was hiding were "checked" . Not dangerous ?
56. Ora , being Jew not dangerous ???
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.12.12)
what about the six million of our brethren ? Today a Jew was attacked in France , remember Toulouse ?
57. 56 Charles, you are right...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.13.12)
it was dangerous to be a Jew during WW2. But would you say ,at the time of a deadly pest epidemic, that being a human being is dangerous? Actually , It is the Indifference to evil harming our neighbour , and not stopping that instantly and drastically that is dangerous. Alone we can t do a lot . Together we can do so much, than sit back and let the world wonder, how we did it..
58. Ora , then it was not a special group
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.13.12)
of people who was endangered . Everyone was [ if my memory is OK , Jews suffered less from it , but later were accused of being guilty for it ] But being a Jew is dangerous TODAY too in some countries . Are you indifferent to the harming of seculars in this supermarket ? Most likely yes , because it are your kind of "people" , charidim .
59. 58 Charles,what harm?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.13.12)
Decent Secular Jews, when walking into a Haredi neighbourhood,do not need to be remembered to wear modest clothes. They do that spontaneously, out of respect. Wouldn t you wear a Kipa if invited at a Haredi house?
60. Ora ,
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.14.12)
As a good Jew i'll answer your question with a question : Would you want me to behave as an hypocrite ? Does a guest not deserve respect ? I was once invited in a Hassid's house , he did'nt want me to wear a kippa , not even when drinking a tea with a cookie ; it would be hypocrisy he said . Will "decent" charidi people change their clothes when walking in a non charidi neighbourhood ?
