Being a part of a people or Nation (ism) is the common sentiment or feeling of solidarity which transforms a group into a people or a Nation. and which finds expression in a common conviction that the collective unit, being a people or nation, must be allocated a very high or the highest position in the hierarchy of social values. Thus the awareness of each individual is the determining factor in the sense of nationalism or peoplehood. As such nationalism or peoplehood exists in the awareness of its members. Some of the factors which give rise to this awareness can be all, some or any one of the following: 1. Conflict, wars, fear of invasion etc 2. Mistrust of other groups. 3. Similar ideas, attitudes and opinions. 4. Geographical divides between the group and other groups. 5. national Territory. 6. Language. 7. The same governmental authority. 8. Religion- Similar religious convictions/traditions frequently contribute to a communal feeling in that they distinguish one group from another. It often involves a particular way of life and cultural patterns. A desire to protect that way of life against intrusion, suppression, discrimination, ethnic cleansing etc strengthens the group feeling. 9. Race 10. Common History 11. Indoctrination. The Jewish people have the Jewish religion, as the dominant factor which binds the individuals into a Nation or people. Therefore, for example, anyone converting to Judaism automatically becomes part of the people. This is confirmed in the Bible when Ruth said 'Your people shall be my people, your God will be my God.' Also there has always been a very strong connection to Israel as expressed in age old prayers and tradition. Furthermore, common citizenship does not interfere with the individual belonging to a particular people or indeed more than one people because peope can belong to various sub groups. So American Indians are indeed Americans but they are also Indians. African Americans are indeed American but also African, similarly Jewish Americans are indeed American but also Jewish. It is the same for Italian Americans, Greek Americans etc. Furthermore, there are other states that define themselves by the religion. For example, the Greek constitution defines Greece as being Greek Orthodox, so do the Danes define themselves through religion.In england, the monarch must be a member of the Church of England as the Monarchs are the Heads of the Church.. Pakistan was created from India solely due to its religion ie Muslim. Israel was creates solely for the Jewish people. Israel is part of the Jewish people’s heritage and Jewish Israelis are a subgroup of the Jewish people in that in addition to their Jewish character they have national territory a common governing authority and a national language-Hebrew. The state has quite legally ordained that any other Jew from anywhere has automatic right to migrate to Israe (Zionism). Many states have other groups within their borders. France has a large Muslim population (5 million). It is still a French State. Switzerland has three groups- German, Italian and French. Holland has the Dutch and the Flemish. Israel has one Million Arabs within its borders. In all these countries the minorities have equal rights which does not infringe on the national character or traditions ie religious holidays such as the Sabbath, Passover, Christmas etc.

While technically you are correct that one can be anti-Israel without being anti-semitic, I have yet to find someone who is not anti-semitic who is anti-Israel.Indeed, slightly knowing the history of the Jews from the time of the Roman entry into the area of Judea to modern-day Israel as well as the deeply religious connection of Judaism to Israel, I would offer that antii-semitism is an essential part of the denial of the Jewish State.

Jews are an ethno-religious group, meaning you can be either/both religiously or ethnically Jewish. Genetic studies backs this up. Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi (except Yemenis) Jews are all closely related and descend from the same people 2500 years ago. Ashkenazim and Sephardim are even very closely related and have had continous connections over the centuries while they split from Mizrahim 2500 years ago. Whilst not a great fan of Europeans whom I find generally narrow minded, xenophobic, Eurocentric etc hatred works both ways. While on a Holiday in Thailand I met an Israeli on the beach who preceded to tell me, upon finding out I to was Jewish, how all goyim were animals and stupid and desired to be ripped off. This was the most uncomfortable conversation of my life as we were surrounded by Germans whose conversations all went silent upon hearing this young, professional Israeli's (in Thailand for business) racism. If it had been the otherway eg a German saying this about Jews, probably would have hit him. Point is that (and I'm no Israel bashed) Israelis can bs guilty of the same intolerance as Europeans.
