1. Socioeconomic protests?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.24.12)
Hardly. These cretins weren't -- and aren't -- in the least bit interested in socioeconomic reform. They're exclusively interested in robbing banks and stores, and proved that with their actions.
2. Violence IS NEVER the answer, all red lines were crossed!
Jew ,   JewLandia   (06.24.12)
This part of the Social Justice movement has lost my support. In my opinion Ms. Leef needs to rethink her position in this matter. VIOLENCE IS UNDEMOCRATIC AND UNACCEPTABLE!
3. Came ot of the closet
Carl   (06.24.12)
Well at least they openly admit that this is no longer a "social protest" but rather to get rid of Bibi and implement their radical left agenda
4. social justice?
sarah ,   jerusalem   (06.24.12)
They want to emulate OWS? Go ahead -- and rapidly become as ridiculous and irrelevant as OWS. N one likes this kind of mindless vandalism and violence. They've lost the People with this behavior...
5. Great job Leef ,
yousef ,   Palestine ,Hebron   (06.24.12)
I wish we have like yu in the Palestine territories,
6. # 1
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.24.12)
Absolute rubbish. They are just trying to make their point that this colossal behemothic no-opposition government is starting to do what the hell it wants. Someone has to oppose it and in a DEMOCRACY this is what people do -protest. It's a shame it got violent, but at least they made their point and also made the police look stupid, which isn't bad.
7. So the Police have the manpower to smash the faces ....
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.24.12)
and break the hands of protestors but don't have the manpower to protect the people of Israel from the "underworld", murder, rape and teen crime. The whole problem that the Mayor of Tel Aviv - Yaffo called in the storm troopers instead of allowing peaceful protest. Now the protests have become violent due to police brutality! We have all seen how the police are out of control. Netanyahu has reneged on his undertaking to implement the recommendations of the Trachtenberg Committee and has done nothing to improve the lot of the poor and middle class. Socialism is definitely OUT but so is greed and that is why the greedy Netanyahu cancelled the election that he called. He seems to forget that there will be an election in October next year and the voter giveth but the voter also taketh away and these people whom he hurt are HIS voters! As usual, his excuse and that of his Poodle Steinitz is "no money" but, when it comes to the Haredim, money is not a problem although the police also beat up the Haredim when they demonstrate telling people to hate others.
8. If the French revolution had not been violent...
Decumanus ,   Jtown   (06.24.12)
I wonder what democracy would have looked like today...
9. @1 ur myopia farsightedness is showing (again)....
Sarita Montiel ,   Israel   (06.24.12)
What these fringe left extremist cretins are interested in is destroying the State of Israel. In this they are no different from the other selfish right wing extremist cretins (the ones in Beit El Ulpana and Migron) who are also interested in destroying the State of Israel. Both fringe left and fringe right are wrong, remember the old addage: "If you go far enough left and you go far enough right you end up in EXACTLY the same spot, that is, you end up at fascist dictatorship!" So #1 get out your multifocal glasses and have another more careful look because at this point you are 100 percent wrong and sound just plain ignorant!
10. @1 ur an NYC ghetto landlord, right?
Hagar ,   Israel   (06.24.12)
and that is why you have no ability to understand how stupid your comment is. This isn't about the money honey it is about destroying Israel. These fools need to be stopped and the police functioned correctly. Kol HaKavod to the Israeli Police Force!
11. Wack em and stack em...let them try this in a USA
Al   (06.24.12)
they wouldnt live to see the next day. Where the hell are these SOBs when the south is being bombed day in day out? Do they give a damn as to the rest of the country? Try them jail them and deny them everything and antthing...They dont deserve to be in an Israel, these ungrateful POS.
12. Qassama were also supposed to cross "red lines"-&nothing
ab   (06.24.12)
happening .
13. David and Goliath
(06.24.12)
The Lord gave David all the reason to believe he'd be able to bring the giant down. And, he was working within the system. That can give all the incentive to right what was wronged. Thou your sins be red as crimson, they'll be white as snow and thou they be like scarlet, they'll be like wool. There is a certain amount of understanding that goes along when people are trying to put up a stand for their livelihoods and just not to be alive, they're livid. The protesters do have legitimate complaints even when more people and land is being sought for the nation and the people are not being considered by the standards. I thought this was suppose to be a showcase. It is suppose to be and will be.
14. Leef's billionaire bankrollers should pick up the tab
daniel ,   TA - IL   (06.24.12)
apparently the cheerleaders for ms. leef do not wish to see that her violentfring socialist messias fanatics isbankrolled by... US socilist billionaires like G. soros, who make their ortune from plunging countries into chaos and then robbing them blind and installing a puppet regime....
15. Syntagma Square bis
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (06.24.12)
I was living in Athens, not far from Syntagma Sq, last year - and riots turned out violent on several occasions. The bottom line is, that it was then proven than the Greek police (and government) has sent police men disguised as riots in order to start those riots and blame the protesters.
16. #9 u must have meant myopic farsightness...
(06.24.12)
but otherwise you are on point. Well stated.
17. @6 so what was their point last year
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.24.12)
when this was almost a minority government, with a massive opposition. Your post has no legitimacy. Democracy is when people vote for who they want to run the country, not when a small minority of protestors get violent because they cant afford to live in central Tel Aviv.
18. @7 read the article before you post
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.24.12)
The police allowed peaceful protest, even unauthorized peaceful protest. They only moved in to stop it when the protesters went violent and disruptive. And btw the police are slowly but surely winning the battle against the "Underworld". Kol HaKavod to them.
19. Why weren't they arrested like haredi Jerusalem protestors?
ISRAELI HYPOCRISY   (06.24.12)
20. There's NO excuse for riots
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (06.24.12)
21. # 17
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.24.12)
But that's exactly the point you see. Last year they protested for socioeconomic reform and the result was the Trachtenberg committee. Now they're protesting because the recommended reforms were never implemented and they are basically being ignored by a now massive government which is just treading on everything and everyone it likes. And it's not about living in central Tel Aviv. You live in Modiin. Did you look at the prices of apartments there recently? How can a young couple buy an apartment which costs at least 1.5 million shekels when they earn about 4500 sh each in some crappy job? That's what it's all about. They are NOT reactionaries, revolutionaries or cretins as you-know-who referred to them. This is SUPPOSED to be a democracy even now and this sort of development is rather worrying, just like Netanyahu cancelling the elections. That's the sort of thing they do in - well you know where they do that, I'm sure.
22. @11 obviously u r 2 young 2 remember....
Cindy Sue ,   USA/Israel   (06.24.12)
the USA riots of the 1960s, the Chicago Democratic Convention in 1968, the Watts Riots in LA in the 1960s the 1992 Riots in LA the New York City Riots of the 1960s and/or any of the riots in the USA in the 21st century related to all manner of taking over Wall Street and other areas.... because if you did remember them you would know that due to the police behaviors in the above mentioned the police has to contend with rioters and with "unlawful and unnecessary use of force" laws. In other words, little man Al you have no idea what you are taking about and it shows!
23. @13 r u saying Dafni hears G-d?
Joey ,   Israel   (06.24.12)
I have it on very good authority that she's an atheist and that she and G-d are not on speaking terms.... just sayin'
24. @15 Greece is over there, Israel is over here....
(06.24.12)
what happened in Greece, happened in Greece and not in Israel!
25. 19 re-read the article they were arrested & charged!
sandy ,   Israel   (06.24.12)
not just arrested and sent home without being charged as is the case with Jerusalem's haredi protesters. You are the only Israeli hypocrite here!
26. Anachirsts!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (06.24.12)
Throw all these pathetic losers in jail, and throw away the keys!
27. "Planned" lol
Woody ,   Tel Aviv, ISRAEL   (06.24.12)
This was an emergency protest scheduled with half a day notice. We didn't even think there would be 1000 people. Most of the movements were planned on the ground because people were so angry and they outnumbered the magav. There was no "planned tire burning" - that is silly. However, it doesn't seem like it's a bad idea for the next protest given the unbelievable violence of the police.
28. #5 Yousef
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (06.24.12)
idiot. i'd like to see you demonstrate against the so-called government in your fictitious country. Dream on.
29. How to solve the problem...
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.24.12)
1) raise the minimum wage by 25%. 2) Increase the taxes by 15% on everyone making over 300,000 shekels a year. 3) BUILD affordable apartment blocks immediately. No more unending delays! Do not give builders development rights unless they provide 25% of their project to low-income housing. 4) Provide vocational training so ISRAELIS know how to build their own buildings 5) Let in more foreign competition for food products to reduce prices. 6) Make Sunday a day off from work. The two-day weekend will reduce the amount of stress on the entire country. 7) Build an entire new city in the south. The construction effort will ensure jobs for everyone who wants one. Open a vocational trades school on-site and train the people who will do the construction. Apartments, schools, clinics, synagogues, commercial areas, office parks, industrial areas- have an architectural competition to have the true 'city of tomorrow' in Israel. JUST DO IT! 8) Rid the southern towns of the threat of random death by Arab rockets once and for all. Flatten a good part of Gaza and be done with it. The impotence on the part of the government in protecting the citizens is sickening. Israel is a great country- time to act like one.
30. Kol HaKavod to the Israeli Police!
