31. Goim!
Phoenix ,   Israel   (07.14.12)
Not related to the Jewish people not by blood not by Religion. They have invented their own Pseudo Jewish religion and Jewishness. They have no connection what so ever to the People of Israel.
32. The Igbos who practice Judaism and
Reuven   (07.15.12)
have Jewish DNA are a part of our people. Those who have official Orthodox conversions should be accepted in Israel.
33. #28 J.K.
DavidR ,   USA   (07.15.12)
That's because the Beni Dan are not Jews, they are Danites from the Hebrew Tribe of Dan, not from the Hebrew Tribe of Y'hudah or the Southern Kingdom of that name. Oh how blind the world is!! Yoseph lives!

And just how do you know? Do you call the roll daily?
35. Meeting of Minds
jerry ,   nyc   (07.15.12)
as frum, i go by our well-known, well-published chain of tradition, as ibo go by theirs. whether they are jews or not is for moshiach to clear up, but they are not recognized as such for now. in any case, i have experienced the same meeting of minds with ibos as has the author. i feel immediately connected to them when i meet them. they are intelligent, and not looking for anything material from us. their outreach is sincere.
36. I am an Igbo and just like evry other Igbo, I believe Im Jew
Kelechi Onuoha ,   Madrid, Spain.   (07.15.12)
My conviction was not born out of the desire to go to Isreal for a better life. NO, it is an identity handed down to us by our fathers and ancestors, oraly though. My grand ma told me we are jews and the connection I feel towards Isreal is stronger than greener pasture. Most Igbos feels the same. Every Igbo man wishes to go on prigrimage to Isreal, just to be intouch with his root once in his lifetime. I dont think our ancestors were all wrong, I dont think the Igbo mans enterprising spirit like the Jews was a mare coincidence and I dont believe that the name IGBO = "heebo" has nothing in common with HEBREW. Colonialism destroyed most archeological proves that existed. I saw some Jews reacting like the Igbos are asking to be taken to Isreal, the answer is NO. The average Igbo man loves Igbo land and we are proud of who we are as Igbos. Our land is blessed with mineral & human resources, waiting for the capable hands to tap them. Shalom unto Isreal & God bless Igbo land.
37. Fraudsters
E ,   Jerusalem   (07.15.12)
If I was an African living in squalor I would also claim to be Jewish to get a free ticket to Israel. The more we indulge these so called 'Jews' the more they will continue appearing
38. we let the Russky 's define their own Jewishness
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (07.15.12)
Now the chickens are coming home to roost. Look, the answer is to drop the connection between the Jewish religion and the Hebrew-ethnic country. Hebrew-speakers should be allowed to be Olim. That is the boundary line we need. Let the Yiddish people stay in Monsey.
39. Where are eskimo jews ?
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (07.15.12)
Not a single investigation, about the eskimos jewish origin. But suspicious, as a Ynet reader said eskimos eating a lot of gefillte fish, so they must be some jewish connection.
40. 37 Right! If we don't stop them now...
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.15.12)
next thing we know the whole world will want to follow Torah, support Israel and be friendly toward Jews (sarc) Ass!!!

42. The men are all circumsized as babies 8 days old???
Josh ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
I'm sure NOT. This is just a scam to get into Israel.
43. shame on those claiming scam
Nissim ,   USA   (07.15.12)
These people have sincere hearts, and even if they were not halachically Jewish, we should accept them if they went threw the proper conversion. Even so, I believe there is high probability they have true connection. Shalom my Igbo brothers I pray for your salvation. Nissim USA
44. Igbos
Ross ,   Ilford   (07.15.12)
Igbos are NOT a ''tribe''. They are a Nigerian ethnic group numbering close to 40 MILLION people, ie nearly 5 times the Israeli population.
45. As an Igbo man!
Thaddeus Nnaneme ,   Bauchi   (07.15.12)
Nicholas Emeka, thank you for making it clear to them. In as much as I love them,I can't live my adorable Igboland to anywhere. When I visited Isreal,I saw the resemblance of our market make up and theirs. I am Igboman to the core and love my identity. For the jews tearing the cloth apart cool down,we ain't living our blessed fatherland to your country.
46. gET THEM BACK HOME

50. Internet?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.16.12)
If Nigeria was a British colony, why couldn't they find out about Judaism prior to the internet? The same Christian missionaries who converted many Nigerians to Christianity could have given them access to knowledge of Judaism. Were there no Jews in Nigeria during the British era? Wouldn't the Christians have used the Old Testament which talks about the Jews. There is something wrong with this article.
51. Were Abraham and Sarah black?
Joseph ,   London UK   (07.16.12)
Judging by the ancient Egyptian paintings the ancient Hebrew were -- surprise! -- Semitic. The Midrash confirms this when it says Sarah was lighter than the Egyptians and this made her stand out.
52. This is absolutely true!
Chima ,   Adelaide, Australia   (07.16.12)
I am from Arochukwu in Igbo land. My grandfather told me, his fore-fathers told him we were jews. Our folktales and rituals show it. So I don't doubt it one bit. We know that we are jews. Many Igbos like myself wouldn't want to return to Israel, but let the truth be known that we are jews.
53. This is True
BENNY ,   South Africa   (07.16.12)
I am super excited that this article made it to Ynet. I had argued my heart out with some Rabbis in Israel who are my friends concerning the story of this article about Igbos. Thanks to Hashem for people like Remy who appeared in the video; he has kept his faith so strong in getting this call to reality. I have lived in Israel and i know how people in government won't agree with this believe but we hope someday soon, we will be recognized by our brothers in Israel as they've accepted jewish siblings from Ethiopia. Toda Ynet...
54. Welcome them
Fellow Jew ,   Springfield, VA   (07.17.12)
If Judaism is a religion, they should be welcomed with open arms. The world needs more Jews. If the world adopted the Jewish love of life, the Jewish love of education, the Jewish love of curiosity, the Jewish love of hard work, and the Jewish love of respect for all, the world would be a much better place.

solomon ,   bklyn   (07.17.12)
I recommend not taking all posts to heart. Yes, people mean what they write. But there are probably those who accept what you say and don’t post. A negative reaction usually elicits a stronger response than a positive reaction. I applaud you for your path and your self-esteem. And for your patience with those who denigrate you. Udo. Shalom. Peace.

solomon ,   bklyn   (07.17.12)
Most of you speak of the trappings of religion; the shawls, the skull caps. These obviously are the result of Christianity’s beginnings in Judaism. The article speaks of customs and traditions, not clothing.
57. It is clear they are of Zera Yisrael
Wise Man ,   Tel Aviv   (07.18.12)
There is a difference between being of "Zera Yisrael" and being Jewish, from the tribe of Judah which has remained a cultural, demographic and religous autonomous entity for at least 3400 years. As such the Ibo are our brothers, and we should welcome them as such with open arms. We Jews must get used to the fact that as the world gets smaller, more and more of our lost brothers and sisters of Zera Yisrael return to their roots. They do not need to immigrate to Israel, their Iboland is already Israel. But we must re-unite as One People. I say this as a secular Jew living in Israel. How am I sure they are of Zera Yisrael? Of course there are archeological and traditions signs,. But for some strange - perhaps even mystical reason I have been sure of our united Peoplehood ever since I met my first Ibo friend in Chicago after the Biafran war in the early 70's. There was an almost mystical mututal identification, a feeling that we have the same roots, the same culture - even the same genes. Since then - we have seen more and more concrete proofs of this But I still - again for some unexplained reasn - trust the spirit.
58. to #32
Jayman ,   Johannesburg   (07.18.12)
Why just Orthodox conversions? Israel is for all Jews, not just the Orthodox. Better to say that all those who have Orthodox, Masorti, Progressive, or Karaite versions should be accepted in Israel.

solomon ,   bklyn   (07.18.12)
Are you saying that descendents from Dan, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, are not Jews?! Ridiculous.
60. #38 bluegrass
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.18.12)
Most of the people who helped recreate Israel in modern times were, and still are, Yiddish speakers. Think before you speak.
