If you are chanced upon recent facts and documentaries you will find that the Igbos are amongst Africa's most successful tribes and are found in almost every part of the world. Being an independent people and the most successful and populous Nigerian tribe has met an unfair treatment from it's neighbours one of which resulted in the biafran war. At a time it was almost considered an abomination to be Jewish in the Igbo community, but now almost every youth own internet cellphones, and are beggining to understand the world around them and the community is slowly accepting the entrance of rabbinical Judaism. Though the eastern part of Nigeria where the Igbos dwell is relatively peaceful with no record of bomb attacks since civil war in the 1970's, economic activities in bloom, social and religious going without hickups. The Igbo nation is not so poor, hungry or war driven to want to run away from homeland, by claiming Jewish. Infact it takes a true commitment and great guts to publicly admit you are Jewish. Nigeria is one of the most difficult places on earth to practice Judaism, still very few of the Nigerian Jews desire to go and settle in Israel right now. Their reasons for which I cannot be sure. We know there are several millions of Jews in the US who are not in Israel, not because they don't want to be there. If the International community can recognise the Nigerian Jews it would be a great boost to the growth of Judaism in Nigeria.

He also identified with the belief that Igbo are descendants of the Jews. Katz told Sunday Sun in Abuja:“I’m aware and sure that we have unique traditions, culture and strong bonds that link us to the Igbo people. It has been proved that these unique bonds are helping in creating ties between us. There are some traditions that the two peoples have in common. I was told by some Igbo friends about common cultures and customs that we have together, some linguistic connections between Hebrew and Igbo.”

It is not a surprise to read about Igbo Jews of Nigeria !
