1. Levy report = R I G H T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.11.12)
It puts an end to that leftist GARBAGE of so many squandered years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Of course the Levy Report is right.
Michael ,   Kochav Yair   (07.11.12)
Jordan no longer wants the land. The Balfour declaration calls this land Jewish. Of course it's time to end the charade that was Oslo in any case. They only want to murder us.
3. The international community ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.11.12)
... be damned. One of the benefits of the endless world focus upon Israel for seven decades is that Israel no longer pays attention. With so many terrible things that go on in the world, with so much genuine tribulation, it is nothing short of laughable that Israel remains the object of everyone's ire, and perpetually in the crosshairs. There was a war in 1967, started by Jordan. Jordan lost. Attendant to that loss was the loss of non-sovereign territory. Too bad. It's over. Deal with it. Israel has every right to settle, retain and even annex Judea and Samaria. Unless the world is prepared to restore the Polish Corridor, Alsace and Lorraine to Germany, and Istria to Italy, the silly pronouncements of the international community with respect to Israel have absolutely no meaning. There is also the matter of China's brutal and ruthless occupation of Tibet. Why have there been no New York Times editorials about that? Does anyone really wonder why Israel pays no attention? The international community has cheapened itself and rendered its opinions meaningless because of the long decades spent industriously trying to establish a separate set of laws which apply exclusively to Israel. That is the illegitimacy which should be examined and questioned. The settlements are here to stay. When Israel annexes Judea and Samaria -- the Levy Report is the first step -- they will no longer be "settlements." They will be a part of Israel. The world was up in arms when Israel unified Jerusalem and pronounced it Israel's capital; the world was up in arms when the Golan Heights were annexed. They got over it. They'll get over this, too. In the meantime, Israel will ride out the tempest in a teacup, and watch with bemused cynicism as the world foams at the mouth. Nothing new under the sun. Israel is here to stay. It's time to get used to the idea. The ersatz "Palestinians" have to learn to live with the consequences of losing wars and ending up on the despicable side of seven decades of terror. There will be no independent ersatz "Palestinian" state in Judea and Samaria. Perhaps they should turn their focus to the little hellhole known as the Gaza Strip. If they're serious about a state, let's see if they are truly all about peace, and if they can build something honest and enduring in Gaza. Believe me -- if they show some mettle against that terrorist enclave, they will find a great deal of help from an unexpected source -- Israel. We'll give them all the assistance they need, and considerably more besides. But Judea and Samaria belong to us. They always have.
4. Who made the new York Times a partner?
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (07.11.12)
This rag is broke. They've been known to have false stories by their "reporters." Maybe they should move their HD's to Gaza and become a part of the rocket brigade? No wonder most people aren't reading the yellow rag.
5. AMEN @ #1
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (07.11.12)
Except now, the off tune chorus is made larger by the New York's slimes 'report.' Israel should ignore them and BUILD BABY BUILD!!
6. To the New York Times
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (07.11.12)
Most of the world hates Israel and wants us Jews and Israel gone but that does not make it right or moral? The Levy Report is right.
7. Judea And Samaria Is Jewish
(07.11.12)
ANNEX, Annex, annex AND BUILD, Build, build!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If arabs want land Go To It Called trans-jordan.
8. as if NYT wasn't preaching "Accept Iranian nukes"
ab   (07.11.12)
Ugly hypocrites of NYT spent WW" writing abouth everything but the Holocaust, they were supportive of Russian spy Algier Hiss ,were silent on GULAGS and admiring overfor "Uncle Joe", were against US Atom Shield in Europe,pro-Carter's appeasement ,against sanctions on Mullahs-now they suddenly find some "major diversion of attention ".Pathetic liars
9. the NY-Times again.......
tiki ,   belgium   (07.11.12)
Writing a 'piercing editorial by a biased NYT-journalist, making the wrong conclusions, doesn't make/prove a case. It only fills the pages and pays the journalists salary in case another anti-Israel editorial might help the NYT from going under. Many wrongs don't make a righ, so the 'view of most of the world' is only a view, a perception but not the proven, irrevocable truth, because views & opinions can be many, varied & changable, but the TRUTH however is only ONE, that's why it is the truth!
10. New York Times
(07.11.12)
Two years ago, the New York Times was a pro-Assad rag, condemning Israel for not complying with his demands to surrender her territory. Now, even they realize that Assad is a bloodthirsty dictator. As for Iran, just a few months ago the New York Times supported Iran and was one of the most vocal opponents of Israeli defensive actions against Iran. With such a record, why should anyone care what they say?
11. Talkbackers 1-9
Michael ,   Haifa   (07.11.12)
Even if they are not convincing anybody else, they are certainly doing a good job in reinforcing each other.
12. The Levy commission's legal advice is first and foremost a
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.11.12)
legal advice; one the editors of the New York Times and like minded editorial boards would rather not hear. But, in reality, legally, the international community assigned the entire part of "Palestine" - the name of a territory, never a nationality or a state, of course!! - that is located between the Jordan River and the Med. Sea to be "the national home for the Jewish people", i.e. the Jewish people's nation-state, in which only the Jewish people may exercise national rights, and Jews may settle at will. This part of "Palestine" is only 23% of the territory. The rest, 77% of it, was handed over to the Arabs as early as 1921 to be an Arab state, which it has been, called Jordan.
13. Once again Israel disappoints
Jacob Edelman ,   Burke, USA   (07.11.12)
Israel is playing with fire with these settlements issue. If Israel and Israelis believe they can get away with them, they are mistaken. You can not practice aparthaid for long ,confiscate other people's property and then expect respect from the International community. I cry for you Israel, because you have forsaken your values.
14. Judea and Samaria are ours. N.Y. Times is full of B.S.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.11.12)
Judea and Samaria have been the ancestral heartland of the Jewish people for more than 3,500 years. Israel's legal ownership of Judea and Samaria has been proven beyond all doubt but many world leading international law experts. The New York Times is full of B.S. That may be a major reason why it is sinking. A few years ago, the Times was valued at about $7 billion. Today is it barely worth $1 billion.
15. Levy Report: Wrong
Tim ,   Brighton   (07.11.12)
How can it be Right
16. NYT run by self-hating Jews. Can you expect anything better?
C.M.   (07.11.12)
These self-hating liberal Jews in Israel as well as in the U.S. etc. are the destroyers of Israel and the world. NYT, PeaceNow, Betzelem, and those weird Rights groups all fall under the same sick category: SELF-HATING LIBERAL RACIST JEWS who have mercy on criminals and cruel to righteous.
17. THE PROBLEM IS ...
FO ,   Belgium   (07.11.12)
The problem is that the "Levy Report" does not explain on witch international decisions or documents it is based. On the other hand the US State Department expressed "concern" although they are aware that the "Levy Report" in full legality with International Law. Let us remind that US President Woodrow Wilson was opposed to the creation of new colonies in the Middle-East, at the end of World War one, and initiated the League of Nations, that in 1922 voted unanimously by all its 51 members, the "Mandate for Palestine". This "Mandate" gave the Jewish people: 1. A State in the making. (The Jewish National Home was incorporated together with Iraq and Syria-Lebanon in the A-Class Mandate "subject to the rendering of administrative advice and assistance by a Mandatory until such time as they are able to stand alone". 2. The "Irrevocable Right" for the Jews to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights. All this has got the guarantee of the US by signing the Anglo-American Treaty. It became International Law, valid to this day and reaffirmed by the United Nations by Article 80 of its Charter. Pretending today that all this is off the table is equal to pretend that the "Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution" (abolition of slavery) is off the table too. A reflection for President Obama !
18. Levy report is wrong
Barry ,   Boston   (07.11.12)
The problem with annexing the West Bank is that millions of Palestinians live there. Israel would need to make them equal citizens thereby destroying the Jewish state. The other alternative is to not to make the Palestinians equal citizens and follow the South Africa model, which didn't turn out very well. Another alternative would be to revert to the pre Oslo status quo like the way Serbia ran Kosovo. That didn't work out either. It is time to think about real solutions.
19. Whos´s god is New York Times?
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.11.12)
Here is Israel´s greatest test:to keep on going in the right path and let them talk. Israel-the whole of it-was,is and always will be ours and that´s why we are here. And now, we will never let Israel again ,since the last rebirth of ours in this land is miraculous:from the won wars through the rebirth of the Hebrew language to the blooming in green of this dryed land,a land that would be always dry without us in it ,as it was. Israel breathes with us and without us there is nothing here,so let them push as much as they want-we keep on going in the right path!
20. NY Times and the Levy Report
Leon ,   Grand Rapids   (07.11.12)
Hey Bad Ased Jew - You don't understand. The NY Times is parroting Obama. This is their job. If you believe that they are supposed to print the news you're sadly mistaken.
21. #18 it is right
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.11.12)
As for the Jordanian colonists on our land - the solution is the same one that all other nations in the world use - including the United States. You deport them to their own country. The United States took over 100,000 American citizens and deported them at the end of the American Revolution. Why - because they supported England. These people are citizens of Jordan and under international law are REQUIRED to accept their citizens back.
22. Michael (11)
tiki ,   belgium   (07.11.12)
It's not for the NYT to tell Israel how the status of Judea & Samaria will be solved, what's legal or not, because that's the descision of the Israeli governement and not some clueless, biased journalists in far away NY, who always have something nasty to say about EVERY move Israel makes, without having to live with the consequences If Israel has to follow their advise & warnings, it has to sit quit & be abused, because moving will bring the planet down. So be it.
23. #3 Sarah B. Bravo! Excellent post!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (07.11.12)
The Levy report has exposed the lies of the "international community" hiding behind the mantra of "violation of international law". The NYT admits it is just a "view". Let the world now substantiate this "view" within a legal framework by proving as erroneous the findings of the Levy report or let the world now make a paradigm shift by demanding that Israel voluntarily surrender its ownership of the land to satisfy the "views" of "most of the world" - without any reference to "violation of international law".
24. NYT editorials
Shmuel ,   Anaheim, CA, USA   (07.11.12)
The main thrust of the NYT editorial is that adopting the Levy report recommendations will adversely affect peace chances. I, for one, would be willing to consider this point of view if the NYT was consistent in promoting peace efforts. This is not the case since they've been very quiet about the PA's refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, the PA's antisemitic incitements in their media and mosques, the antisemitic "education" of their children, the Hamas summer camps, etc. The peace process is going nowhere due to Arab intransigence and unreasonable preconditions to even talk and yet the NYT finds fault only with the Levy report. Pathetic!
25. Settlements "damaging to Israels security"
Naor ,   USA   (07.11.12)
Why does everyone and their mother think they know what is best for the State of Israel? What are their qualifications that they should know better than the elected representatives of the State?
26. #18. Mr President, please log in. ))
Ariel ,   Europe   (07.11.12)
27. #3 is correct. Levy report is a prelude to annexation.
Jake ,   USA   (07.11.12)
If Bibi follows through with on this historical step, he will be remembered. as one of the greatest leaders in Jewish history.
28. #11 And by the way, Haifa is Jewish too.
Jake   (07.11.12)
The days of "Red Haifa" living in fantasy land, believing that the menace of Arab terror would pass over it quietly like a palestinian "angel of death", are long over.
29. Amusing choice of headline.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (07.11.12)
Nobody is talking about Iran. I guess all posters can multi-task. They can think about Iran while they focus on and talk about the Levy report.
30. To: Barry at No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.11.12)
It's not a problem. Jordan extended citizenship to all West Bank Arabs and their progeny, irrevocably, via its 1954 Citizenship Law. While Jordan has tried on numerous occasions to rescind that grant of citizenship, the International Court in The Hague has consistently ruled that an irrevocable grant of citizenship is precisely that -- irrevocable. Hence, all Arabs living in Judea and Samaria are Jordanian citizens. There is absolutely nothing to prevent Israel from repatriating them following annexation.
