All State schools - both secular and religious - teach Torah. Torah is one of the mandatory matriculation subjects. However, the ultra-orthodox schools don't teach anything BUT Torah - no math, no science, no English, no history. As for "the history of Judaism" I'm certain that the ultra-orthodox don't learn that, either. In fact, the only schools that teach that subject are the TALI schools. Mind you, the new Ministry of Education "Jewish History and Culture" courses being added to 5th and 6th grades are a step in the right direction, but again - that course won't get into any of the ultra-orthodox schools.

What makes you think that I have not served in the IDF? Chabad has a proud tradition of serving in the IDF and during my service I am proud to say I brought 20 Jewish souls back to yiddishkeit. haredi boys can study torah till age 20 and then be drafted for the full time period into haredi battalions for 3 years with all that entails. or, if they want to join the army earlier, they can join other units. bibi is completely correct. and the upshot is that at age 20, 80% of haredi 20 year olds will serve in the army and add to the manpower.

Every Jew should, actually, be an ethernal Torah student,but that does not mean that we all don´t have to work and do mundane tasks ,which are where stand our opportunities to practice Torah.
