31. Even Security needs to have manners
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (07.27.12)
It is not so terrible that no exception was made because there wasn't any time. What is ridiculous is being treated rudely and that unfortunately is a trademark of Israel. Learn manners, learn to say: We are sorry but we do not have sufficient time to screen your bags, they screwed up in the airport and we will forward them to you within 24 hours. It's not so hard really.
32. #1 shame on you
John ,   El Paso, Texas   (07.27.12)
Your name fits you well. What are you a troll, posting as if you are calling things out matter of factly. In my experience Israel treats the gentiles (me included) with an abundance of respect! Who are you to write such garbage!
33. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE WITH THE AIRLINE LOSING HER BAGGAGE
(07.27.12)
that happens a lot ...
34. I do not understand.!!!!!!!
ray ,   Zürich/ Israel   (07.27.12)
Was she the only person on the flight ( flying to Israel) whose luggage could not be examined ?? STRANGE:: Why was she not allowed to take her hand luggage or phone on board? ,surley the could have been easily examined.. Something not exactly clear about this whole story... Still good to hear Israels security is as tight as it should be..
35. Unfortunate Incident
NYC Girl   (07.27.12)
Since it appears that some important details are missing from this story, about the only thing we can say with any certainty is that the Israeli boyfriend is an idiot. He knows damned well this kind of situation had nothing to do with whether or not the girlfriend was Jewish...but he realized that by making such an inflammatory comment, he could attract a lot more attention.
36. Security was right
R. Brosilow ,   Rehovot, Israel   (07.27.12)
Several years ago, an Irish woman boarded a flight with a bomb in her suitcase, which was loaded by an Arab boyfriend. As I recall, this resulted in an explosion on the plane. In any case, I am with the security people. The Irish girlfriend should stop snivelling. We're talking about people's lives here.
37. No #1, she was a possible terrorist threat
AK   (07.27.12)
to the passengers on board her plain. After the terrorist attack in Bulgaria she should have understood that security screening is being performed for a very good reason and directed her anger at the perpetrators of terror -- Muslims.
38. #25, at the Atlanta Airport I had to take off my flip-flops
AK   (07.27.12)
to be screened. I guess in this day and age of underware bombers, and shoe bombers it is impossible to distinguish between bombs and a lot of things. Obviously she set off a security alerts, which means nothing really, since I was was also selected for special security check while leaving Israel and ahead of me a Hasidic man received the same treatment.
39. Upset Lady vs Flight Security
Andy ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
Hmmm. Upset Lady vs Flight Security, Upset Lady vs Flight Security. When we fly, we are all by ourselves up there - just us and the luggage. So I'm all for a more intense screening and security.
40. Why bad PR?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (07.27.12)
We have seen many times Arabs and terrorist 'befriend' unsuspecting people in order to commit terrorist attacks. The Israeli security people are not the dumb clods that the US employees. Israelis know what is a security risk. If this lady was prevented from bringing a suitcase with her, there was a sound reason behind it.
41. Makes me want to travel via Israeli Airlines
ma nishma ,   modiin   (07.27.12)
I have once been in line in America behind two Arabs who were speaking between themselves in Arabic. When we got to the body check, they were allowed to pass and I was pulled over for a full body check in a small room to the side. I asked why me? They told me they count the people and every so many are pulled over for the body check. Nothing personal, they added. Now I ask you: who would you prefer to fly with? These duds or an Israeli security system? Give me Israeli security and not the feeble brained US scum.
42. I'D RATHER FLY SAFE THAN SORRY and this has nothing to do
safe Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (07.27.12)
with Jewish or not Jewish. It has to do with being safe. We have the best security and every airline looks to us to learn. If she arrived 3 or more hours before as she should have there would have been enough time. And the luggage would then be sent on the next day. Her actions only made her more suspicious. Reminds me of the girlfriend "incident" in London many years ago.
43. So ACTUALLY the problem was Dublin's
Ilan ,   Be'er Sheva Israel   (07.27.12)
Their lack of proper screening equipment! But it looks like that meany Israel is at it again. Rubbish!! Who wrote this article...? Take away his pen!
44. the reality is we will not commit suicide.
Golan ,   modiin   (07.27.12)
throughout the 1990's Israelis committed suicide for "good PR" we gave up land we gave terrorists guns we brought the PLO into Israel we pretended the PA is not the PLO And all we got was terror. In the mean time Israeli hacks in the diplomatic corps show pictures of cellphones and laptops to "present Israeli inventions." while ignoring our reality. but this is the reality, if we did not live in Israel we would be murdered and beaten and robbed and told go to "Palestine" (or Cole-Syria or Phonicia or whatever Israel was called in different times in history) And now we are even getting murdered outside of Israel (and not because of Israeli policies but) because Islam hates the West. that is the reality and Irland is as antisemitic as Poland so spare me!
45. I was singled out too for extra screening
Howard ,   Atlanta USA   (07.27.12)
I took El Al to Tel Aviv one time and at the gate I was brought up to the front and they parted me down and went through my entire bag by hand. Then they informed me that they were doing the same thing to my checked bags and that I couldn't board until they finished. It didn't bother me much. I thought it was a little overboard but that's the world we live in. So I don't see why they couldn't do the same in this case. Because they had no problem searching me from head to toe.
46. Ann Murphy,a pregnant Irish girl was found with a bomb in
ab   (07.27.12)
her bag just before boarding an EL Al plane from London. She was also going to visit her boyfriend in Israel, and the bag was a present from him. England severed diplomatic reltions with Syria then, and the boyfriend,a pal was released from prison this year . No rreason to repeat it,is it ?
47. what about
james ,   nazareth illit   (07.27.12)
so im guessing that she was the only passenger on the plane right??? because obviously everyone elses baggage was able to be checked. secondly according to the AVIATION LAW signed by the supreme court of Israel they are NOT allowed to take her cell phone or lap top from her or connect it to anything in order to download the material on it. they are only allowed to pass it through an xray machine to make sure there are no explosive materials inside. so theres the first rule they broke!!! Welcome to israel lady lets keep up the bad rep for everyone to see and make the world hate us just a little bit more :) good work guys
48. To #45 and others
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (07.27.12)
The exact same procedure was performed on me in 1986 in London by British Airways. It was London - Tel Aviv and I was body searched and luggage searched, everything. Even clock and transistor (remember them) were opened - batteries removed. I am Israeli but all passengers were searched same way - 6 hour delay. So I am saying that she had specifically a problem.
49. Has happened to me in the past
Slainte ,   Cork Ireland   (07.27.12)
As an Irishwoman married to an Israeli, this intense security check has happened to me many times while I was visiting my husband in Israel before we married. To be honest with you, my attitude towards it was "Well if they are screening & checking me (an innocent tourist) thoroughly, then the flight must be safe!". Yes, it was an inconvenience but I do understand the Israelis' strict scrutiny of making sure their passengers are safe.
50. MEMBER OF THE I.R.A
Bob ,   Canada   (07.27.12)
The security detail probably saw an IRA MEMBERSHIP card.
51. 29 Exactly!
k ,   US   (07.27.12)
Google "Hindawi affair" and read about it on Wiki This happened before, cant blame Israel for being paranoid blame the Enemies of Israel
52. Bravo Arkia. Security comes before
Mel ,   chicago   (07.27.12)
comfort. Sure it is a pain in the ass. I wonder why Dublin airport did not help with their scanner. I will fly with you Arkia.
53. dublin airport security
Ehud ,   qyriat shemona   (07.27.12)
Yes the problem is Dublin airport, There are issues about security there, It was recently sort of downgraded and not flights from Dublin connecting at other eu airports have to undergo security again as its not up to the EU standards ( that was on media several months ago)
54. Just a reminder why I only fly ELAL
rebecca ,   Modiin   (07.27.12)
I like feeling safe.
55. #54
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (07.27.12)
I like feeling safe, too....which is why I've never reacted with umbrage on the several occasions I've been taken aside for a more thorough search and interrogation, prior to boarding flights to Israel. I'm Israeli, but I fit a somewhat suspicious profile. Yes, it's an inconvenience, but too bad about that: in the end, I always board, knowing we'll all arrive safely. Sorry the Irish girl's feelings were hurt. Glad, however, that Israel's superior safety record remains intact.
56. Shamus, I am not at all surprised of
(07.27.12)
comments of your type coming from Irland. It has been long known that Irish intransigence is very tight, especially to Judaism and the Jewish people. On the face of it, the Irish boast of human love towards everyone, including Jews. In reality, many of them behave attrociously and use the lame excuse of "not Jews" but "Israel". I have news for all Israel hating Irishmen and Irish women -" Israel" is sinonymous with "Jews". I always wanted to visit the green paradise, but no thank you no. I totally lost my appetite. First, learn to provide the right tools at your airports and do not question Israeli security ways and then behave without hatred. Maybe then, we shall see.
57. The best way to avoid a terrorist attack ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.27.12)
is to make sure they -- and their luggage -- never board the plane. Works for me. For the most part, those who are detained, or whose luggage is not permitted on board, give a rueful smile and say they are grateful for Israel's security. Those who do not appreciate Israel's security measures may have an ulterior motive. Speaks for itself, doesn't it? By the way -- I think that the post at No. 1 is a complete fraud. "Shamus" is a slang term for detective. The name is actually spelled "Seamus." Just sayin'.
58. Inspect by hand?
Joseph ,   London UK   (07.27.12)
When I first travelled to Irael in 1971 El Al inspected luggage by hand. Is that no longer possible? Years back an Irish terrorist placed a bomb in the luggage of his English 'girlfriend', hoping she would get through security. Fortunately the bomb was discovered.
59. Don't blame Israeli security,
raph ,   Brussels, Belgium   (07.27.12)
Blame those who wants to blow up planes.
60. Shamus - fake Irishman
Caoimhe ,   Dublin, Ireland   (07.27.12)
Shamus, if you are going to pretend to be Irish and make stupid comments, at least learn how the name is spelled. Seamus is the correct spelling, pronounced Shamus.
