61. late luggage
Ethan ,   Eilat   (07.27.12)
I love it when my luggage misses the plane, I get it delivered to my home with no hassles.
62. SO no luggage was allowed, right??
Aileen ,   Rehovot   (07.27.12)
Having been in her shoes, it is not the issue of there being a security check, rather the Israeli attitude that goes along with it. For example, had the situation been that no luggage was being allowed on the plane because there were insufficient facilities to screen it, I suspect there would not have been an issue. I have been searched, interrogated, and hampered at the airport prior to marrying an Israeli and becoming a citizen 10 years ago - and the stupid thing is, that had she flown with a NON ISRAELI airline, she would not have had an issue... Security checks can be done and requests made - but because of the arrogant and rude way that they are done, people get offended and p'd off. My recommendation - fly to Israel on a non-Israeli airline - then you don't have the hassle, and if there are security questions, they are presented with a polite attitude.
63. To 53 wether you go through security initially
(07.27.12)
in any EU country or In USA if you make a connecting flight you go through Security check again. This has become routine It has nothing to do with downgraded Lublin Security
64. Dublin airport, not Shin Bet
sarah ,   jerusalem israel   (07.27.12)
All this furor over Shin Bet from this misleading headline...I guess the editor couldn't be bothered to read the story, which clearly said "the authorities in Dublin 'could not facilitate the use of the screening machine, which is why it wasn't possible to inspect her luggage and its contents.'" Hello? Dublin airport couldn't screen her luggage, and the Shin Bet rule is (reasonably) if we can't screen your luggage, your luggage can't go aboard. The alternative offered were reasonable.
65. Shin Bet Lies
Ralph ,   Rishon Le Zion   (07.27.12)
Come on admit that you made a balls up. A plane has around 150 pax, so just how was the luggage of all the other pax checked? Why was just one person picked out. It's about time you told the truth and admitted that you made one enormous public relations DISASTER.
66. #62
Ram ,   London   (07.27.12)
Flying to Israel on an airline other than El Al does not diminish the security check, I believe. If I am not wrong, the security used by other airlines flying to Israel is that provided by Israel. Let me know if I am wrong.
67. to 66
Pavel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.27.12)
Ram, sorry to say but you're very much wrong - I have flown to Israel with some other airlines and their checks prior to the flight are (compared with what you experience when flying ElAl) very superficial ... the girl would have travelled easily flying another airline
68. To: Caoimhe at No. 60
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.27.12)
Thanks for the corroboration! (See the third paragraph of my post at No. 57). I'm a little surprised no one else picked up on that!

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.27.12)
Perhaps all the other passengers agreed to allow to have their luggage hand-searched and sniffed by explosives-detecting canines. Perhaps the passenger's name came up on a suspect list (which would explain her desire not to have her name publicized). This is not a public relations "disaster." Do you know how many people fly El Al or Arkia (not all of them Jewish and not all on flights to Israel) PRECISELY because of Israel's security measures? Look for that number to increase. It's a public relations coup -- most people prefer to fly in safety.
70. To: Ram at No. 66
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.27.12)
You are 100% correct. Frankly, other airlines are more than happy to allow Israel to handle security for flights going to Israel. The last thing on earth they need is for an expensive aircraft to go boom and a class action lawsuit by family members of those who were aboard the aircraft. Not to mention the adverse publicity.

andres ,   kufstein   (07.27.12)
I do not know who decides how is the procedure for airport security but sometimes i think he/she/they take drugs. last time i went to israel from munich they keep asking about things that happenned 20 years ago, as what was the name of my officer in the army and why i speak hebrew if i´m austrian, etc etc, all nonsense questions that in one moment wanted not to fly. even in venezuela they work better in the airport. israel is a banana republic.
76. No. 1
Paddy ,   Dublin   (07.27.12)
Don`t pay any attention to 'Shamus' he`s a fake. He can`t even spell SEAMUS. Long live Ireland and Israel!
77. Worried
Sven ,   Stockholm   (07.27.12)
I would be very worried if they did not follow tight secutity procedures when I visit my girlfriend in Israel! Very worried indeed!
78. The lady protests too much
Cynthia ,   USA   (07.27.12)
Security trumps inconvenience. We're reminded of this daily and Israel must take extra measures. Glad no exceptions were made just because she has an Israeli boyfriend. If she really cared about her boyfriend and it was important to see his way of life in Israel, she would focus on how to complete the trip verses make a scene about the treatment.
79. El Al
Moragh   (07.27.12)
I am not Jewish but have worked for El Al and I can say that they have strict safety for Jews and all others travelling on El Al. If there was any cause for fear, I'm sure the Travel Agency would not have sold her a ticket. But I agree..... something stinks here!
80. Israeli airlines
Moragh   (07.27.12)
The safest in the world. I'd fly anywhere on an El Al if it were possible. Not forgetting their first class service even in the tourist section.
81. The Irish, especially the women, are full of cunning
Ben Ze'ev ,   Panama City Panama   (07.27.12)
The boyfriend and the girl friend may have been mashugga lefties, and the whole thing a "put-up" job. All the girl has to do to arouse this sort of suspicion is to look a bit awkward and nervous when at the airport, and especially wnem approaching the desk. Such a pity....the boyfreind will have to be satisfied with temporary Irraeli "consolation" instead of a fresh fpreign tzatske.
82. Boyfriend dodged a bullet
Fergus ,   Scotland   (07.27.12)
Irish women are not worth the hassle, he's well out of there. Also good PR for Israel: a reminder to terrorists not to try the planes.
83.  to 76 PADDYFROM DUBLIN
DANNY TAWIL ,   ENGLAND   (07.27.12)
GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY PADDY FROM DANNY
84. I'm fine with Shin Bets decision not to let her board.
Israeli ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
Israelis are the only ones who have to go to a different check in surrounded by armed police, in almost every airport around the world. Now why is that? Bad PR maybe, but at least everyone arrived safely.
85. Big deal
Alisa ,   Vancouver, Canada   (07.27.12)
This young lady wouldn't last a week in Israel if this is enough to prevent her from ever visiting. So she faced a delay in her travels. Yes, it's frustrating but get over it. Such is the "cost" of Israeli security.
86. There is a chance of the IDF Officer marrying out
Seamus Mcfee   (07.28.12)
Appears Shin Bet has decided that there must be the imposition of Nurembourg type laws to ensure it doesn't happen. You telling me that this one individual wasn't allowed to take her baggage but every single other passenger was for no reason. It is time we banned the Israelis from riunning what is tantamount to an occupation force on our land. Or we demand the same security arrangements at Ben Gurion particularly in light of the cloning of passports
87. To: No. 79
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.28.12)
Something certainly does stink here, but it most assuredly comes from the Irish woman. Especially since she is a shrinking violet when it comes to revealing her identity. I wonder why; don't you?
88. Irish woman and unscreened suitcase
VG ,   USA   (07.28.12)
Security is number one priority for Israel. Don't like it? Too bad. Kol Hakavod for the Arkia, kol ha kavod for Shin Bet!
89. This story has nothing to do with Israel
Richie ,   Dublin, Ireland   (07.28.12)
I travel to Israel quite a lot. Israeli security does not see or inspect my case until before I'm going on the flight to Israel, which is normally from London. There are no direct flights to Israel from Ireland. This woman probably insisted her case was to be forwarded on to Israel so she wouldn't have to collect it in the country she was going to fly to Israel from, where it could be screened in that country. Me, I fly from Dublin to London. I collect my case from the irish flight in London and then go, with my case, to the check in desk for my flight to Israel. My case is then screened to the standars Israel insists on. I couldn't ask in Dublin for my case to just be transfered in the Uk to the Israel flight. People going to Israel have to have their luggage screened in the airport where their flight to Israel leaves from. Luggage cannot be just transfered from one plane to another and on to Israel without proper screening and it is stupid to expect such a thing
90. #86 Calm down, read #89
Lina ,   US   (07.28.12)
Save your occupation obsession. Travel to Israel, follow security procedures. That simple. Me thinks you're all worked up because the young woman fell for an Israeli instead of the likes of you.
