2. "Psychological" Israeli Occupation
Ali ,   Ramallah   (08.26.12)
As a Palestinian I feel your occupation physically every day Mr. Asaf, in every aspect of my life unfortuntly.
3. Occupation real, Israeli open air prison run by Hamas, Fatah
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.26.12)
...in Gaza, and the West Bank. Nothing goes into, or out of, these prisons, without the permission of the Warden, Israel, and his Prison Guards, the IDF, keeping the civilian Jews safe from the natives.
4. Scholars for peace creating a new myth
Cynic #2   (08.26.12)
The myth that the "occupation is a myth"! If this scholar wants to believe his own myth, all well and good. But to assume that the rest of the world are blind to the fact of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, then he can dwell in his idiotic beliefs for as long as he wishes.
5. Surrealistic
pete ,   uk   (08.26.12)
the "Israeli occupation" of Palestinians is more of a psychological than it is physical. Got to be the joke of the year.
6. more pathological denial
roger ,   zurich switzerland   (08.26.12)
The Israeli 'people' are in massive collective pathological denial about what it is doing to the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. It is an absolute refusal to take responsibility and care. A bottomless arrogant corruption. Israel will pay a heavy price for its racist chauvinism.
7. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.12)
How would you characterize the occupation of Northern Ireland? How about Wales, Cornwall and Scotland?
8. "Occupation"
John Robey ,   Austin, Texas   (08.26.12)
You play with words, it does not matter what you label it occupation, subjection, liberation, enslavement, it is about CONTROL and Israel has control over what goes in and out of Gaza and the West Bank, the taxes, the air space even the international waters. The Palestenians want to have control over their own destiny. Diflecting the argument toward some other country's transgressions does not absolve Israel.
9. talkbacks prove point
observer ,   world   (08.26.12)
Its interesting to see that all of these talkbacks denouncing the article are foreigners. Have you ever even been to Israel? Or do you just believe everything you've been spoon fed in your countries?
10. #2 Ali
ltrail ,   United States   (08.26.12)
Are you sure that your "feeling" is not one of hatred toward Jews, rather than something else? The State of Israel won back the territory now known as Samaria and Judea. It belongs to the Jews as owner. Are you upset that Jordan no longer occupies those districts? Maybe so.
11. Occupation
Ed ,   USA   (08.26.12)
Hey Pete.....are you in the "United" Kingdom still occupying Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales....or did you give parts of the "Kingdom" autonomy.....you talking about "occupation"....you perfected it!
12. #2,ali,is it because seaside is in ISRAEL,not palistine?
ab   (08.27.12)
Yes,you require permission to go to ISRAEL,just as you require permission to go to Jordan or american permission to go to US.Swallow it
13. ending the "occupation"
tiki ,   belgium   (08.26.12)
It's like the story of the young lawyer who takes over the 'unresolved' cases from his father's practice. Looking into them he sees he can solve all of them in 6 month. Confronting his father the father sais....., "Son, these 'unresolved cases build our houses, payed our bills, your study, paid for family trips abroad, our boat and our pension. By resolving thes cases you took away our livelyhood! That's the answer to the ''occopation. Ending it, would take away the breadwinning of hundred of thousands ''activists & political leaders'' , weapon dealers & smugglers and the 'reason d'etre of the terrorists.
14. Excellent OP-ED
Israel   (08.26.12)
At last, something intelligent.
15. Occupiers?
Judd Rusnak ,   Sydney   (08.27.12)
Tell me if at any place on earth, a person can be called an occupier when if he entered the occupied territory he will be lynched, hanged, killed, detained, etc. How can you be called an occupier when you do not engage with the occupied? NO Jew is allowed to enter areas A,B in the west bank or for that manner into the Gaza strip. This is just beyond me.
16. #8. John: Can't you understand? Is it difficult?
Tom W ,   USA   (08.27.12)
Since Israel's inception the Arab world declared and initiated war of extermination against Israel. They lost it. Their goal - to push the Jews into the sea - is the same today as it was yesterday. There is state of war officially between the two parties. Hard to comprehend? State of War - got it? The same what the U.S. army does on the border of N/S. Korea. There are armed conflicts going on daily on Israel's borders from several direction resulting death and destruction. This a state of war, until peace can be achieved the rule of war makes the law. American and EU street protester Peaceniks cannot understand that we Jews wont succumb to Arab terror and this simple fact renders them visceral Jew haters. Or foaming-at-the mouth posters on these forums.
17. Bury "occupation" lie once and for all.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.27.12)
The "occupation" lie is common currency among Israeli leftists, as well as among Israel's enemies. Let us bury this lie once and for all. Israel's legal ownership of Judea and Samaria, our more than 3,500 year old ancestral heartland, has been incontrovertibly proven by countless international law experts. Even the terrorist P.A. won't publicly debate it. Ask MK Danny Ayalon. He challenged them to do so.
18. #10, #12 Your words
Ali ,   Ramallah   (08.27.12)
Your words emphasize that I am living under your occupation.
19. #2 So how are the sunnis in Iran, Ali ?
Iranian Hunter   (08.27.12)
What would a good shia do when they met a sunni in Iran when they have names like Aisha or Yazid or Umar ? We know what you did to them, and the arab world knows too. You're fooling no one Apartheid Iran. :) Go worship Assad's picture.
20. #2
Beary White ,   Norway   (08.27.12)
Feeling the heat from hamasss?Sunny or shia? Your life would be in danger if you have to live in a wrong islamic country. It is the nature of islam, your religion. You are better off to convert into judaism or christianity.
21. Outside legitmate borders is OCCUPATION
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.27.12)
Not a blade of grass not a grain of sand outside Israel unilaterally declared borders belong to Israel so the land is therefore OCCUPIED land
22. Load of horse manure
Nina ,   NYC   (08.27.12)
Israel has a blockade against Gaza and an Occupation in West Bank. Anyone denying it is living in a parallel universe. You can try to take Academic Freedom away in US but you will fail. Anyone with an ounce of brain and sense of justice will fight you till the end of time.
23. If it's not occupation, it's apartheid. Take your pic.
John ,   Tucson, USA   (08.27.12)
You can't have it both ways...sorry. Annex the West Bank publicly...and then grant all Palestinians Israeli citizenship...all 11 million of them. It's up to you....
24. No's. 1,2,3,9 repatriating to your homeland in Mecca 4 sure
Marco ,   Spain   (08.27.12)
you will lose the feeling of being occupied or occupying other indigenous peoples' lands all over the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
25. #9 talkbacks prove point
ltrail ,   United States   (08.27.12)
Yes several times and for some periods of time. What is YOUR point? If your point is "occupation", Israel is not only the Occupier, but the Owner, who returned from vacation elsewhere.
26. Really, John? #8
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (08.27.12)
Really, John? Israel is occupying Gaza and restricting what goes in and out? I'm not sure what alternate dimension you live in, but here in mine Gaza has a border to the south with Egypt and Israel isn't controlling what's going in and out through that border. Unless your contention is that Egypt is occupying Gaza too?
27. occupation is just a word
Yaron ,   Tel Aviv. Israel   (08.27.12)
It is not about occupation or whatsoever. Those are only words. What it is about is Israeli people that are not safe and Palestinian/Arab people that cannot develop themselves. For the first ones, there is the IDF, for the second, there is the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authorities that are incapable of developing a thriving Palestinian community. Forget about the symptoms like cruel soldiers, dishonest water management, settlements, etc. It all comes together. The Israeli government has the duty to open up a perspective to the Palestinians of a healthy and wealthy West Bank. The Palestinian Authority has the duty to lift the hate and aggression towards Israel. If this is the deal, it is a fair deal. This is the only way. And just forget about Hamas. That is a lost cause.
28. Well said!
