THE ARABS WILL ALWAYS BE WRONG,,AND THE WORLD MUST KNOW IT.....
5. Why would anyone believe human beings are righteous?
Thomas the Doubter ,   USA   (09.25.12)
Just look at human history. But then again my religion pioneered the concept of original sin, which has never been popular with humanity yet which seems a saner and saner way to look at the human experience every day...
6. He is so right that he is totally wrong....
Ron ,   Melbourne, Australia   (09.26.12)
He is right that many of the worst atrocities are committed in the name of justice - as the saying goes the 'road to hell is paved with good intentions', - however, his solution is totally wrong. Self examination , inwards looking and begging forgiveness with no understanding is the road for further self justification, confirmation biases strengething and cognitive dissonance. Internally what thoughts come to our mind, what facts, etc - all are uncontrollable and unknowable. What is the cure - the cure is the ability to use logic , seek data which challenge our assumptions ,put our ideas in jeopardy , use comparative analysis, and seek a multitude of points of view , etc - only then would can align their moral compass. Looking Inwards is the worst solution - it only uses internally sourced data, biases ,etc. - it is where many of the problem are sourced.....
7. Excellent Advice
Pete ,   USA   (09.25.12)
Thank you Rabbi Lapid ... very thoughtful and sincere commentary.
8. Thank you.
Nathan Rai ,   Bangalore   (09.25.12)
The most sombre truths in an article Ive read in my 45 years of life. I think it applies to every religion... This truth must be driving the one we humans call by different names nuts if not to tears....
9. #6 doubter - thank you...
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.25.12)
for proving his point; you already have slid into "my G-d is better than your G-d". You should only know how ridiculous you sound.
10. from chile, brazil, united states and uk

When a would-be politician preaches, BEWARE !!!!
13. Gemar Chasima Tova!
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (09.25.12)
An interesting article. Just for the sake of accuracy it's only fair to note that United Torah Judaism is the Lithuanian Degel Hatorah combined with the mainly Hasidic Agudth Israel. We Litvish Jews do not consider Hasidim non-Jews. That was an 18th Century view. In spite of the many differences within the Jewish community we all recognise ourselves, I hope, as one people united by an eternal Covenant. Gemar Chasima Tova.
14. YAIR CHECK YOUR LINEAGE
....DACON9   (09.25.12)
I FEEL YOU ARENT JEWISH You would be a very good xtian misisonary ,as you are a very poor representative of minhag, halacha and all talmud. yOU ARE SURELY NOT A RABBI OR AN EDUCATER I will pray you wake up or if you refuse, I will pray you move to zimbabwe
15. Be private with your God. Have it in your heart, alone.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.25.12)
Have it in your house, in your synagogue, in your meditations. It is a mistake to think you can share your God, your thoughts about something that doesn't exist, with anyone else. Enjoy your g and leave us alone to enjoy ours. Chatima Tova.
16. there is just one more god
HaifaGuy   (09.26.12)
The god of Yair Lapid: Yair Lapid. Get off the tree you god of good looks and empty words, stay away from our already merky politix, you god of self importance and knowitallness.
17. I'm a little disappointed
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (09.25.12)
I expected some self-reflection. But I didn't see anything. Can someone tell me, what god told to murderes from Deir Yassin? From Lydda? From Abu Shusha?
18. That was very impressive and inclusive
Mark ,   London, UK   (09.25.12)
19. Not just in one day, Iron Dome is testament to that.
Rashid   (09.26.12)
20. Lapid the religious schollar
zionist forever   (09.25.12)
I love the way here Yair Lapid who is famous for being anti religion is tying to make himself out as a righteous man. Maybe Lapid the righteous should join Shas, there he can mix his strong faith with politics. Come on Ynet play fair. Lapid is nothiing but a politician now who has quit journalism so treat him as such and stop giving him regular collums unless your going to let Bibi, Barak and all the other politicians opportunities to write their own articles and have them published on here.
21. Thanks Lapid
ber ,   yahud   (09.26.12)
Just because your daddy left you a billion dollars means we obliged for another generation to read these vapid musings which mostly just reveal your misoneism and xenophobia. In addition to writing mediocre insights, with weak conceptualizations, it is pretty egotistical to think we are some how enlightened to read you insipid ranting just because your daddy is...so so..... you should run for president of America, you'd give Romeny a real run for his daddy's money.
22. dozens of versions of God? idiot Lapid
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (09.26.12)
It is easy to talk when you know nothing about what you are saying. True there are differences in 'customs' and costumes, but to say:"dozens of versions of God" is unspeakably reading into what is happening what he wants to say. Rabbi Lapid, a scholar who write well even if he knows nothing about what he is saying, will go far among the ignorant and ignoramuses.
23.  There is only ONE G-D.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.26.12)
If people had perfectly clean glasses they would all see the same G-D. For the rest ,his article is very true.
24. Severe ignorance.
Sammy ,   Israel   (09.26.12)
Congratultions Yair. You have succesfully proven your ignorance by writing a lengthy article on something you know very little about. Not one of any of the 'groups' in the jewish religion claim to have their own god. Nor do the lithuanians claim that the hasidic aren't jews. Everyone agrees that we all belong to the same religion, with the only dispute being how best to serve God and what aspects of the religion need to be focused on! The way you write however does indeed bring to mind some serious doubts about who your god is. Do some research Mr Lapid...you might be in for a suprise!
25. 1st Lapid Article I liked...wow, maybe mashiach is coming...
(09.26.12)
26. Missed the point...
Ahuva ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (09.26.12)
It seems to me that many talkbackers missed the point Mr. Lapid was trying to make in referencing the "many gods" of different religious groups within Jewish Israeli society. Since each of these groups claims to have a monopoly on the truth, and yet each has a vastly different position on what that "truth" is, Lapid claims, tongue in cheek, that each has its own "god". After all, if we all believed in the same god, surely we would share the same belief system...It is rare that I find myself agreeing with Mr. Lapid, but today I wish him, and all of Israel, a Gmar Chatima Tova!
27. 15 Michael,what is your G-D?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.26.12)
Still a woman s voice? I liked your interpretation of G-D.
28. #17 jarda
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.27.12)
He told them the same thing as the Jewish Yishuv told them; they were horrible things to do. Now what about the arab murderers from before the re-establishment of Israel to the present day? I'm not disappointed in you, as I didn't expect anything better from you.
29. And how is yair lapid qualified to say what Judaism is
Ephraim ,   Tapuah   (09.27.12)
This was the problem with Reform rabbis -- everyone with a nice sounding idea went out and said it in the name of Judaism, even if it was crazy hertical nonsense like this.
30. esharvit@lhshealth.com
Eliav Sharvit ,   United States   (09.27.12)
I respect you as an intellectual, but once you start talking about G-d you are out of your element. You really are. I think that you are a better orator than you are a writer. It's a common condition for politicians because the written word lacks the persona, the smile, the slap on the back and every other tool you employ to dupe the populace into voting for you. Just stick to the podium and put your pen down - you'll get more votes that way. On the other hand, keep writing...
