This is a humanitarian effort with a mission to provide much needed medical equipment and other basic necessities to people who are lacking essential material to adequately provide care for their sick and old. As far as I understand, these people need all support they can get.

The Israeli government has learned NOTHING from the Marmara disaster. There was no violence this time but it may happen again in the future. Those people know the PR value of martyrdom. The Rafah crossing to Egypt has been open for a few years, even during the later years of the Mubarak regime - most goods can be transferred there. Israel also transfers many tons of goods there every day, and there is now only a very short list of banned items, mostly those connected to armaments. The Hamas government is extremely good at PR and making themselves look downtrodden to the outside world. Meanwhile they (or their proxies) continue to lob rockets across into Israeli territory. Perhaps they'd have more money for their needs if they didn't spend it on weaponry? Meanwhile, a few hundred kilometres to the north of here, a real civil war is going on in Syria - with tens of thousands dead. As a long-term Israeli leftie, even I'm puzzled (like most of the population here) why well-meaning compassionate people from Scandinavia invest so much in bringing "much needed medical equipment and other basic necessities" to Gaza which already has these things, while ignoring the suffering and needs of the Syrian people which I can assure you are infinitely greater. Do some research (outside the usual pro-Palestinian websites), and you'll discover that the reality is quite different to what you've been told. And Israel could stop providing them with FREE electricity and FREE fresh water and FREE thousands of metric tons of humanitarian aid trucked in from Israel on a weekly basis. You understand nothing.
