Alexandre Chinovich   (01.14.13)
Some people hope that if Israel survives the nearest four years she will be able to relax in 2017. False hopes! The next US President will be Hagel.
32. Good to see the American ghetto is alive & well, Hagel Boo!
You'r Scaring ,   Only Yourselves   (01.14.13)
33. it's the game plan
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.14.13)
And you fell for it. No one is discussing Hagel's competence or qualifications for the job and how he will be good for America, because he doesn't have any and he will be bad for America. Instead, Obama is spinning the clearly false "Hagel is pro-Israel" to intimidate people by implying that if you reject Hagel you are in Israel's pocket.
34. No matter how hagel you stack it, the smell is the same.
Bernie ,   Erehwon,USA   (01.14.13)
35. It's laughable to read the barrack room posts....
Robert ,   Australia   (01.14.13)
....here on the merits of Hagel's appointment. Just how many of you have the military experience of Hagel? I don't mean a stint in the IDF rifle-butting Palestinian kids and old ladies but Viet Nam type experience. Until you have looked into the wrong end of an AK-47, stop making idiots of yourselves.
36. Colin Warcriminal Powel
Augustbrhm ,   PortofSpain Trinidad   (01.14.13)
This Liar who unashamedly cause the death of over 1million Iraqis have the temerity to voice an opinion. Both him bush et al should be Jailed for life.
37. ***Sarah*** at 28...Hagel is as bad as his

39. So ... Hagel is a Vietnam "war hero"
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.14.13)
I'm sorry, but can someone remind me who won that war?
40. so
sam ,   colorado-US   (01.14.13)
What interests him is just America's interest and 'doesn't have to agree with Israel on everything' so
41. #39 Go sarah B!
(01.14.13)
The North Vietnamese won that war, and you have got balls!
42. Pro America
Teresa ,   USA   (01.14.13)
Its time American Politicians remember that we should always put the interest of Americans FIRST over any other country. And no we do not have to agree with everything that Israel does, like pushing Plaestinians off their land for Jewish only settlements. Thats segregation, America has moved pass that kind of crap!
43. who cares about Israel
fred ,   usa   (01.15.13)
Hagel is for America and has no burden to protect Israel. Those European Jews made their choice to move to that part of the world. No one forced them. I know America did not force them and should in no way have to check off the Israel box to get confirmed as Sec of Defense
44. To: No. 43
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.15.13)
No one is asking Hagel to "protect" Israel. We've seen how the United States has fared in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Waziristan, Pakistan and -- my personal favorite -- Somalia. Just stay out of our way. That's all the U.S. has to do.
45. Israel is like a spoiled child
Robert ,   Australia   (01.15.13)
Always whining about not getting preferential treatment which in reality they have been getting for years. Stop your whining and grow up..
46. Sarah B and dual loyalty.
America first   (01.15.13)
Does anyone doubt for a fraction of a second that Jews like Sarah B put their allegiance to the Jewish tribe far above any allegiance to the United States of America? The idea that such people could somehow be turned into trustworthy Americans is a complete joke.
47. To: No. 46
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.15.13)
In 2011, I paid $2.6 million in taxes to the United States government. I also paid $1.4 million in taxes to New York State. I've had an excellent 2012, as has my husband. Quarterly tax payments notwithstanding, we expect to pay considerably more for 2012. I assure you that I could have found ways around both, but I chose not to, because I am loyal to the United States. How much in taxes did YOU pay? Answer that, and let's talk allegiance, okay? Unless and until, I think you need to shut up. You're the one who is the complete joke. You know nothing about me. How dare you criticize me? So, tell me .... what was the dollar amount of your meager allegiance?
48. #47

Its always about the money with you, isn't it? And the BS! You wish girlie!
49. General Powell
Maria ,   Not American   (01.22.13)
Gen. Powell is the best and most ''Stand Up'' American of consequence you will ever deal with: his heritage and experience insists that he ''calls it Like He Sees it'', He would not lie for anyone. He is and always has been better than that, heads and shoulders above the rest, always capable of standing above the fray; and more than anything else, he doesn't dabble for dabbling sakes or to please anyone just because they demand it, he works well with others and aims to get a job or any job he or his country has to get done and that involves him, done well. Trying to demonize him will not work; lies, disrespect, doubt on the part of his self-made enemies will not work. An honest discourse will always work where he is concerned; he goes the distance for the common good. Back off the General folks, He is an American General, about to retire, he is a unique one that the entire world will willingly fall in behind should he require it to.
50. Obama-His Own Counsel
American Woman ,   America   (01.22.13)
Says Who? I bet this would be Big News to Obama; who always but always keeps his own counsel. He does not appear to have a confident outside his wife and perhaps Axelrod- whom everyone loves, though I do not know the 2nd half for sure. Hagel would also be surprised to hear that, because AGAIN, Obama holds his own counsel folks, his own counsel!
51. Powell's ''absurd comments''
Daughter's Combined ,   Not Applicable   (01.22.13)
While I cannot speak for Gen. Powell, as a lay reader see my understanding of what he probably meant below: Israelis, (a country) lobby - people from the country could potentially lobby. Jewish lobby - not possible, because a religion does not lobby, though people practicing the religion could. Of course, I could be wrong in the above regard too. Both my mom and my daughter is part Jewish, (Persian-Jew in my daughter's case), She asks me all the time whether she will have a Barmitzfa-sp? I tell her it is up to her dad., though if it takes me a Roman Catholic to help her learn and embrace the religion of her father, I will gladly do so. General Powell and I share a common heritage; we are not mean, we treat our fellow humans wit kindness and respect; we do not hold grudges and we fully respect all of our fellow humans. Please Do Not Make Him A Scape Goat for his comments. He was trying to smooth the oddly rumbling under currents of discord during a period of importance for the POTUS. Though, I will willingly do whatever helps her embrace her religion if and when she declares her intentions.

lightharry ,   New York   (01.31.13)
Hagel supports America and that is all that is important.
53. Hagel not competent
art ,   jersey city nj USA   (02.23.13)
Beyond his political views, which are anti Israel anti Jewish, former Sen Hagel has failed to show that he is prepared and competent to be Sec DOD He showed lack of discipline and knowledge during the Senate hearings. He has no clue about how the military or the DOD function. He doesn't even know basic US policy
