Who would have thought that the US would recognize communist China? And Nixon of all people? 'Never' is a long time. In politics, a week is a long time.

63. Why would Jews 'DESERVE' a state and
Edithann ,   USA   (02.14.13)
'PALESTINIANS' not! Who decides the worthiness of a mans home and his land? What imbeciles you are to even pose such a question, let alone discuss it! TATA
64. Palestinians
Mordejai ,   S. America   (02.14.13)
Palestinians donĀ“t deserve a very own state since they are not a nation and since they dont recognize the jewish state.
65. Re: #29 Luiz
Dan Calic [writer]   (02.14.13)
Luiz, you may not be familiar with some important history- For centuries approximately 800,000 Jews lived in Arab/Islamic countries in the Middle East. When the UN voted to partition two states for two peoples in 1947, virtually every one of these Jews were forced to leave the countries they lived in. Israel absorbed them all. So if you think "ethnic cleansing" is unrealistic, how come the Arabs can get away with it? Mahmoud Abbas has called Israel a "racist state," in spite of the fact over 1 million Arabs live in Israel as full citizens. He also has said if he gets his 'Palestinian' state, "there will be no room for a single Jew." So what's good for the Arabs isn't okay for the Jews?
66. "bordering on anti-Semitism"???

Totally agree. If your neighbours murder and steal it is entirely justifiable for you to do the same.
68. do the palestinians deserve a state?
jerome ,   basalt, colorado   (02.14.13)
simple answer is absolutely NO!
69. # 68...It's not a matter of deserving it's a matter of
Edithann ,   USA   (02.14.13)
geography...and Palestinians have the geography, the history, the population and the grievences!!... Palestine will be recognized as a state...as soon as the US gets out of the picture... TATA.

Obviously you either didn't read the article or it's way over your head and you didn't understand it.
71. #60 - well said.
William ,   Israel   (02.14.13)
72. #63 - you yourself raised this question about Israel
William ,   Israel   (02.14.13)
so we see which type of imbecile poses such questions.
73. #61 - pretty sure Chinese weren't out to destroy US
William ,   Israel   (02.14.13)
here in lies the difference
74. Demographic Catastrophe
Zechariah   (02.14.13)
The Shoah with the Genocide of Six million Jews precludes a Palestinian state because of Islams general contempt for Jews getting worse and Arab Nationalism demanding right of Return to Israel even an Islamic State To Displace the Jewish State .Realism allows Truces for Now but in the decades Islam hopes to conquer Israel a vast Majority of Islam in any case .

wrong. Spanish speakers stole Mexico from Aztec speakers. To Luiz in Brazil: we are waiting to hear your explanation of why a (colonial-established!!) Portugese-speaking nation should exist in the native homeland of the indigenous Amazon tribes? Do you mind if Israel starts giving rockets to those tribes?
76. #75 Bluegrass Picker - better learn some history
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.14.13)
Mexico overthrew the Spain Empire in 1810-1821. Gaining independence in 1821. So you are incorrect - the MEXICAN-AMERICAN War happened 1846-1848. The Spanish-American War was 1898-1899.

I'm confused; please show us what you're talking about. Give the Great Plains back to the Apache Nation. It is their land!! Then we'll follow your leadership.
78. contradiction
(02.14.13)
''This reflects adherence to the uncompromising extremist Islamic view that any land once controlled by Muslims is seen as forever belonging to them.'' ...... Is it not commonly asserted by Zionists that the Jews controlled the land thousands of years ago so it still belongs to them? Is this not exactly the same attitude?
79. Israel/Palestine
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (02.15.13)
1) The posts subscribed by "Luiz, Brazil", are not mine. 2) Israel must only accept the Arab neighbor as another State, when their leaders, in fact, recognize and respect her. 3) While it does not happen, the conflict will never finish, because self defense is a sacred right. 4) Renewed Salutes from a friend.

Bertram ,   London, UK   (02.15.13)
You are clearly unaware of the post-war view that communism was certainly out to destroy America. But, in any case, we have two Muslim countries, Jordan and Egypt, both of whom recognise Israel - and want to destroy it.
81. to #78
cristu   (02.15.13)
go and read the Mandate for Palestine, a League of Nations/UN document valid today, granting legal rights for the JEWS from the Jordan to the Mediterranean. Jews are generously sharing the land with Arabs, who should be grateful to Israel.
82. To No. 81
Bertram ,   London, UK   (02.15.13)
Apparently we have to rehearse this tedious discussion of 'legalities' stretching back over 90 years. OK. The Balfour Declaration, the Mandate for Palestine and the San Remo Conference, without exception: 1. Support for the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine, but - 2. Without prejudice to the existing non-Jewish population of Palestine. No patronising talk of 'generously sharing the land with Arabs'.
83. By reading thses comments one can understand fascism.

84. Should Jews demand reparations from Germany
Edithann ,   USA   (02.17.13)
for stealing their property? Souldn't Palestinians demand the same?? TATA
85. Why do Muslims deserve a 24th state in Arabia?
BUTSeriousy ,   Sydney   (02.26.13)
Why not a Coptic 2-state in East Egypt? Why not a Kurdish state? Why not a Christian state in Jordan? All these predate Islam in Arabia.
86. PALESTINIAN STATE
rick ,   sherman oaks   (02.28.13)
The quotes from the Palestinian Charter are false and misleading. They were publicly amended and removed decades ago and then superceded by the Oslo Accords that the PLO signed in Sept. 1993. Secondly, the Palestinian people do not need Israeli permission to declare a state: read US Declaration of Independence, "the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it" (form of gov't. i.e. Occupation-illegal under UN Charter and Geneva Convention, to which Israel is signatory. The above article is shameful deceit.
