Exactly where does it say anything about boycotting jews? Israel does not equal jews. I don't remember the worlds christians whining about the largely christian South Africa boycot as an attack on them.

64. #40 "Britain ... around for .. much longer than Israel"
Robert ,   Australia   (02.25.13)
Oh really? I thought Israel's only justification for existing was the claim it has been around for much longer.

So, Martin Cooper (apparently that's a Jewish name) credited with the invention of the cell phone is a Jew from now on even if he considered himself an American of Ukrainian descent, that never mentioned or claim to be a Jew. Forget that radio communication goes back to the 1840s, introduced by British Scientists. Forget Marconi is the wireless/long distance radio communication/transmission father, forget R. Fessenden who made the first successful transatlantic radio transmission in 1890. Forget W. MacFarlane, the inventor of the first car phone that lead to Mr. Cooper invention, just remember that Mr. Cooper was a Jew because "we" said so ,...

I don't think they would take much notice if you and your friends pulled your kids out of school. In case you didn't know, Oxford is considered somewhat fancy, there is no shortage of applicants more than willing to pay whatever amount of money to get in. That is if what you're saying is even true, I very much doubt that it is.

68. Boycott Oxford?
Ed ,   USA   (02.25.13)
Boycotts can work both ways. If Oxford decides to boycott Israel, then people who support the Jewish right to self-determination should boycott Oxford.

It is not I, who am reading a newspaper from your country because I imagine that it is an important country. It is you who can't resist the desire to read our newspapers. Go ahead, boycott us. Get your worldnews from Maan. That will make it even easier for us to kick you back to where you came from, and give Occupied SaamiLand back to its indigenous people.

Robert ,   Australia   (02.25.13)
I wasn't aware that Rhodes Scholarships could be bought.

This string of talkbacks reminds me of the famous joke of the jew reading an arab newspaper in a subway. As a student at Oxofrd myself, i would advise you people to stay tuned for the final vote next week. You might be, uhm, "dissapointed".

The idea, oh monumentally stupid one, is to pull in foreign students with the academic qualifications to study at Oxford. Good luck finding some of those. What, did you think I would send my son to Uppsala? The University there actually offered him a free ride. But the very thought of sending my Jewish son to Sweden turns my stomach. I don't want him hanging around with a bunch of neo-Nazi knuckle-draggers. Sorry. Think I don't know how supposedly neutral Sweden collaborated with the Nazis during World War II? The only reason the Nazis never invaded Sweden is because they didn't have to. Sweden did everything they could to succor and support the Nazis. You are a disgrace to the world.

This is news? Ethical pharmaceutical companies sue one another all the time over patent infringement. Were it not for the pharmaceutical industry, you'd have a whole host of unemployed IP lawyers. Grow a brain!

Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.25.13)
Yes because students not affected or caring about Israel are going to be swayed from studying at Oxford University because the Student Union has decided to make sure the lightbulb it sources do not have Made in Israel stamped on them. You are clearly delusional

I wonder if the students in Oxford will vote against Syria, Lybia or other Arab countries for their part in discriminating minorities and freedom of religions.

The countries you have listed don't pretend or claim to be democratic.

The point of interest is whether a school as prestigious as Oxford will cave in to the demands of a few over the interests of the many. It has happened on a number of prestigious American campuses (although not as many as some people think), and their reputations have suffered considerably.
79. boycotting of Israel
Elana ,   Israel   (02.27.13)
If this issue comes down to even boycotting Israeli students, the universities lose valuable assets: The British universities are voting to boycott Israeli goods and if it comes to boycotting even Israeli students they will shoot themselves, not in the foot, but in the head. Firstly, they lose highly educated academic students who contribute their knowledge and expertise to the British Academic system. Israelis do not even try to impose their religious beliefs onto the British or any other student enjoying the privilege of being able to study higher standards of education in UK. Secondly, as these esteemed universities ease out Israeli students, they make room for extreme Islamists who do come with an agenda which is not to achieve an excellent education, but to impose their dark-age religious beliefs on British students and British society. With banners of “Death to Israel” and “Free Palestine” they reveal their pre-planned agenda which is not to gain a respected education, but to eradicate knowledge in the centuries old prestigious halls of learning. Thirdly, and not so slowly, one will see dress codes change to Burka and full-body veil; prayers to Allah five times a day in the prestigious corridors of time-honored halls of higher education; demands to university deans to build mosques and to take down any symbols of Christianity in an effort to erase any signs of time-honored religious faiths and a ploy that symbols of Christianity offend the sensitivities of the Muslim in our modern and open societies. George Galloway walked out and showed his distain for dialogue and reason and on top of it all, make a complete ass of himself. Does Geoge represent the British people's attitude working for peace?
